Long time no chat! Life has been a little bit crazy and I feel like I’ve been on a whirlwind that has just started to slow back down. So many new adventures have landed in my lap and I am so excited to share these new parts of my life. Until then, let’s get back to talking about beauty – my favourite thing to do!
When it comes to foundations, I’ve always been a full coverage kind of girl. Even back in high school, I was always trying to add as much coverage as possible to cover every little blemish, freckle and scar. The difference between high school and now is that I’ve learned a lot more about makeup, how to apply it and how it should look. Meaning those cakey, over applied, badly blended foundation days are firmly in the past.
Not only have my techniques and skills changed but I have also learned to look for foundations that provide a lot of coverage without a lot weight or a lot of product. A difficult task when most full coverage foundations are inevitably heavy, thick and/or require a lot of layers to actually achieve that coverage you want.
Well, times have changed!! I don’t know what was floating around in the beauty industry water but a number of brands have just come out with new innovative takes on a full coverage base.
NARS Cosmetics is the headliner of this new revolution with their new Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation ($60 CAD/$49 USD). It’s an incredible, ultra-concentrated foundation that feels feather light and looks just like skin – perfected.
The Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation is one of the most interesting and satisfying foundations I have ever tried. It has so many aspects to its innovative formula that it’s almost hard to keep straight, so let’s break it down.
Formula & Shade Range
The NRL Foundation has a unique weightless texture that packs medium to full, buildable coverage in just a few drops of this breathable foundation. It is formulated with a Skin Optimizing Complex – a blend of raspberry, apple and watermelon extracts – that helps support skin’s elastic fibres to smooth skin and improve texture over time for optimal radiance.
The thinner formula is built off of a translucent base that is then infused with specialized, micronized amino acid-coated pigments (that recognize skin tone and then replicate it) and mineral tone-balancing powders. These pigments and powders act like magnets and fuse with the skin to create the closest possible match. This also means you require less product to cover imperfections as the foundation will match your skin perfectly!
The intense payoff within each individual pigment and that ability to apply less product means you will never look cakey, heavy, dry or like your wearing a mask. But, watch out because the intensity of those pigments means if you apply too much, they will get stuck to texture or dry spots and not blend away properly.
Top Tip : start with just a couple of drops and apply with a damp beauty sponge in the centre of the face, blending out. Add more as you go but start small.
The range comes with 33 skin-matching shades, an incredible amount of options with multiple choices for every complexion from fair to very dark.
Wear Time & Performance
One of the top claims of the NRL foundation is superior wear time. They market the foundation as having 16 hour wear with a fade resistant, transfer resistant and sweat resistant formula.
I have never had the chance or the need to wear the foundation for 16 hours but I have worn it for 12 and each time I have done that, I have been more and more impressed! They say the foundation is formulated to improve skin’s appearance hour by hour and that it will always look freshly applied and I have to agree! I always find myself looking in the mirror hours after I applied my makeup and it will like no time has passed at all. In fact, I think it actually looks better about an hour after you apply it, once the foundation has had the chance to warm up to your skin and adjust to it’s perfect shade.
The foundation naturally sets down to a soft matte finish but it has a hint of a glow that makes you look naturally luminous. That glow tends to subtly increase as the day goes on but never to a point of oiliness or greasy skin. Personally, I have dry skin and I find that this foundation stays put, doesn’t transfer, fade, or migrate throughout the day and it stays looking fresh without any dryness or separation.
Overall, I am completely obsessed with the Naturally Radiant Longwear Foundation, it pulls through on everything it claims and has given me the ability to have full coverage without the heavy feel or look that typically comes with it. I LOVE being able to cover up everything I want covered but still have people ask if I’m wearing anything at all because it meshes SO well with my own skin. It is the only foundation I have been wearing lately, apart from one other one that almost performs just as well, but I’ll be sharing that one soon!
Alongside the release of the Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation, NARS also released an extension of their iconic, award-winning Radiant Creamy Concealers! ($37 CAD/ $30 USD) With the addition of 6 new shades there are now 22 options so you can find the perfect match to your foundation!
The concealers are described as having bendable, medium to full coverage with light diffusing technology that obscures imperfections, smooths skin and brightens.
