When the beginning of a new year comes around, we all get this idea in our heads that we need to make crazy resolutions and create big changes in our lives. I have a different way of looking at what a new year really means and I think it has a much more positive impact.
I see the new year as a new start, a fresh chance to re-evaluate the things in your life that might not be working. I see it as a chance to simplify and begin again. This year I have decided that I need to take a step back and remove all of the clutter and complications from my skincare routine. So when Neutrogena (my favourite skincare brand in high school!) reached out and asked if I would like to explore their classic acne care products I felt like it was the perfect opportunity to start from scratch.
Neutrogena is the #1 Dermatologist recommended brand in North America with it’s classic formulas and simplified yet high quality products that provide results without the complications or the high price tag.
Neutrogena sent me four of their best products to help me reach my fresh and simplified skincare goals while fighting acne and keeping my skin hydrated.
The Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash ($10) is a gentle oil and alcohol free cleanser with a silky gel consistency.
It features 2% Salicylic Acid and Neutrogena’s exclusive MicroClear technology that cuts right through oil and penetrates deep down to deliver the maximum amount of acne medication. It effectively delivers the treatment you need without clogging your pores and even helps to prevent acne from forming in the future by balancing the PH levels in your skin and removing excess sebum.
When mixed with water the bright orange gel turns into a creamy white lather that smooths over the skin melting away any makeup, dirt or debris. A tiny bit goes a long way to make your skin feel refreshed and clean but never dry or tight.
The Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Moisturizer ($13) is the next step in my new routine. It is a multitasking water based moisturizer that hydrates skin while also working to keep acne at bay.
The non greasy lotion is ultra lightweight and applies smoothly with a slight cooling sensation for light daily hydration. The water based formula means your skin will drink it right up, absorbing in mere seconds and leaving a satin matte finish.
The addition of 0.5% Salicylic Acid keeps pores clear and continues to fight the production of acne all day long.
Next up is the Neutrogena Rapid Clear Spot Gel ($12), a clear gel based spot treatment that will reduce redness and pimple size within 4 hours.
Featuring 2% Salicylic Acid and MicroClear technology, the spot treatment sends the potent acne fighting medicine straight into pores to dry out spots and reduce irritation quickly. It can be applied up to 3 times a day but I love to use it before bed. A tiny bit goes a really long way and to avoid transferring bacteria I like to apply a little dot with a cotton bud.
Those three steps leave my skin feeling refreshed, clean and nourished. This simplified routine is effective at fighting all of those nasty spots while keeping my skin balanced and healthy. I have noticed a really fantastic difference in my skin and I think taking a step back to a less complicated routine has been key.
To make sure my skin is feeling and looking it’s best from head to toe, I have also added the Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash ($10) to my routine.
This gorgeously scented body wash features the same MicroClear technology and Salicylic Acid to fight and prevent breakouts on the back, chest and shoulders. It features 100% naturally derived grapefruit extract and Vitamin C to cleanse and treat while giving you a tropical shower experience.
I have to say, I don’t have any issues with body acne but I love using this body wash simply for the amazing scent! My boyfriend has also started using it and he has noticed a drastic difference in the breakouts on his shoulders.
After adding all of these Neutrogena products into my regime I definitely think I have achieved my goal of a fresh start for the new year! A massive thanks to Neutrogena for helping me start from scratch.
