Understated Nails For Fall | Finding The Best Neutral For Your Skintone

Hey Beauties!

When it comes to fall beauty I’m usually all about rich vampy colours and deep berry tones from head to toe.  However, over the past year my tastes have grown and evolved and those typical bold shades are becoming a little more subtle and lot more wearable.

While I still love those dark vampy shades, I feel like there is something sophisticated about keeping the drama to a minimum. So instead of painting both my nails and my lips in bold reds I prefer to keep it to one or the other. So this fall I am all about understated neutrals on my nails and a vampy lip but how did I find the perfect neutral for my complexion?

Is Nude Just A Nude?

It’s not easy to find the perfect neutral polish when there are so many options but if you want to rock that bold lip and keep the rest of your look neutral and balanced you need to hunt it down. A neutral polish can work wonders for your fall complexion, it can make your fingers look long, lean and if you find the right shade they might even look like they’re glowing.

When trying to find that perfect neutral there are a few key points that will help you narrow down the options.

Thoughts To Consider

Know Your Undertone:

My trick to finding the perfect shade is to find a polish that is similar to my natural skin tone and then play with different undertones or tints. All of my favourite neutral polishes have a hint of my natural skin tone within them that peeks through when you put them side by side.

Don’t Try To Match:

While you want to compliment your skin tone you don’t want to match it exactly. This will wash you out. Play with your undertone and find a shade that brings your skin to life.

Avoid Anything White:

To get that flattering naturally radiant look you want to work with your skin and not against it. A white polish or anything too pale will appear harsh and wash you out.

Explore Different Finishes:

If you think a nude nail is boring try a polish with a slight shimmer or sheen to add a bit of interest and dimension.

Maintain That Manicure:

To keep your neutral nail from looking plain and less than appealing, make sure you take care of your manicure to make your nails look healthy and radiant. Use a topcoat and keep your hands moisturized.

There Is No One Perfect Nude:

Always remember that nude or neutral is more of a concept than a particular colour. It’s all what looks neutral on your skin and what flatters your particular undertones. Explore different shades and finished until you find your perfect nude.

I hope those tips help you find your perfect understated neutral for fall so you can rock more of those bold lips without feeling overwhelmed.

I have the hardest time finding a neutral nail polish but I lean more towards the pinky cotton candy colors. I'm always in the market for that perfect nude though, great tips!

Fab tips! I use dark polishes because I cannot find a nude that suits me. I'm definitely going to keep these ideas in the back of my mind though next time I pop into my local Boots.Rachael at broomfie.blogspot.com
