With fall just around the corner all of the best beauty brands are coming out with new collections inspired by the upcoming season. One of my favourite affordable brands is Quo, a Shoppers Drug Mart exclusive, and I love them because they always come out with the most beautifully packaged and curated collections for prices that anyone can afford. Of course, this years fall collection is no exception!
The Quo Fall 2015 collection consists of two eyeshadow palettes, two face palettes, an eyebrow palette, four chubby lip crayons and even a brush set all of which are covered in a stunning, vibrant kaleidoscope print. The packaging alone is enough to capture my attention but its what lies inside that really matters so let’s go through each piece of the collection one by one.
The first product in the Fall 2015 collection is the Brow Wow palette which retails for $12 CAD. The palette is slim and compact with a magnetic closure, it has 3 shades of brow powder ranging from a taupey blonde to a warm mid tone brown and then a cool deeper brown. It also contains a brow “cream” which is similar to a brow wax, it is a waxy substance but this one has a creamy consistency and a beige tone to it. I love that the palette comes with a small double sided brush for on the go application but there is no mirror in the compact.
The three powders are smooth, nicely pigmented and easy to blend. They feel quite silky but do kick up a bit of powder. The shades are a bit odd; the “blonde” shade has a green undertone that I can imagine would look quite strange and the mid tone brown is very warm so it is the perfect colour for my brows but would be too red for some. However, the deeper brown shade is pretty much perfect and I can see it working for a number of people.
Next up is the Eye Shadow Palette in the shade Keepin’ It Sweet which retails for $18 CAD – a steal in my opinion. This palette is also a very convenient size with a slim shape that us makeup addicts can definitely appreciate. It comes with 12 gorgeous shadows and 4 cream eyeliners. The Keepin’ It Sweet palette is a warm girl’s dream, it is packed full of beautiful pinks, browns, oranges and golds that scream for a cranberry smokey eye or a burnt orange lid with a dramatic cat wing.
As you can see in the swatches below, all of the shadows are really nicely pigmented and exceeded my expectations. They were all creamy and smooth and swatched easily with only a bit of fall out. There is a solid mixture of shades and formulas with a few matte crease colours, a few pops of colour, a few satins and three absolutely stunning shimmer shades. The camera did not do those shimmer shadows justice but there is an antique gold, a copper and a peachy bronze. The burnt orange and taupe crease shades are also crazy gorgeous and I cannot wait to play around with them.
The cream eye liners are a bit confusing to me, I am used to a gel or liquid eyeliner and the idea of a cream goes straight over my head but as I have no knowledge on cream eyeliners I can’t judge them all too well. There are four shades, a black, a brown, a navy blue and a shimmering grey all of which seemed quite sheer and applied slightly patchy. They needed to be built up quite a bit to show you a decent swatch.
Next is the Face Palette in the shade Escape which retails for $18 CAD. It comes in the same sleek cardboard packaging with a magnetic closure and fun design. It features a blush, a highlight and a bronzer so it has everything you need for a full face, another palette that is perfect for travel.
The blush is a warm terracotta nude shade and is completely matte. It is really buttery and smooth and blends out beautifully. The highlight is a gorgeous champagne with bits of white gold shimmer – but no glitter – it is really nicely pigmented and also blends perfectly. I can see it being a gorgeous highlight on just about any skin tone from super fair to medium/tan. The bronzer is very warm toned and has a bit of shimmer in it so it is better used as an all over bronze than a contour colour. It is far too orange for my fair skin but might work on someone with a warmer complexion. It is nicely pigmented and doesn’t require a lot to get any sort of payoff but it feels a little chalky.
Lastly, there are two Chubby Lip Crayons in the shades Innocent and Flirt, both of which retail for $10 CAD. I love a good lip crayon and these two are no exception, Innocent is a gorgeous peachy nude and Flirt is a stunning rich berry. They both have vibrant pigmentation and feel like butter when you swatch them. They are gorgeously creamy and glide straight on but because they are creams they will smudge and transfer.
Overall, Quo has produced another fantastic collection for Fall 2015 and like all makeup lines there are some things I love and some that just didn’t quite work for me. I absolutely love the Chubby Lip Crayons, the Face Palette and the Eye Shadow Palette. I think everybody needs to run out to a Shoppers Drug Mart and swatch the Keepin’ It Sweet palette because you will fall in love.
The Quo Fall 2015 Collection will be available exclusively at Shoppers Drug Mart in mid September so keep an eye out and make sure to pick up one or two pieces.
