This past weekend was host to Hamilton’s annual Supercrawl – a weekend that we Hamiltonians look forward to every year. For one weekend, the busiest streets in Hamilton are closed down for one big street festival. Those streets are packed with the most creative people in Hamilton and the surrounding area.
There are live art installations of massive proportions, an electric circus and aerial dancers that fly through the sky. Artists and businesses line the streets selling their handcrafted goods, musical acts both large and small take the streets and the stage to fill the city with music and best of all Hamilton’s top designers share their creations through two days of fashion shows.
This year the Supercrawl Fashion Zone was in the hands of two of the most talented men in the city, Paul & Aaron of The Eye of Faith. Just last year I had the chance to interview the duo (see that interview here) in their amazing store and now they are heading up the most important weekend for fashion in Hamilton.
This year they arranged a weekend full of shows from the best of Hamilton’s designers and even debuted their own clothing line in their show titled Hollywood Babylon.
Their show took you straight back in time, from the music and the atmosphere to the attitude the models were exuding. Every single second of the Hollywood Babylon show was like a dream in the most decade we’ve known. The pieces were luxurious and screamed glamour with a hint of sassiness and fun thrown in. Each outfit was created and styled to perfection and I could see some of the most glamorous ladies of the past rocking every last piece.
The next show I had to check out was the Fall/Winter collection from Volver Designs, entitled Anouk. Volver is one of my absolute favourites brands and the designer Rosa is a beautiful human being with incredible talent. Every piece in her collection is handmade and one of a kind. Rosa pours herself into everything she creates and she never fails to blow me away.
This season she managed to take some of the biggest trends in both summer and fall fashion and take them to a new level. Knit crop tops and big cozy sweaters rocked the runway along with her classic styles of cardigan and hooded capes that won me over last year.
I did a shoot with Volver last year (here) and it is so amazing to see how the line has evolved. I genuinely think that Rosa is one of the most talented people of our time and her pieces should be in everyone’s closet.
This year’s Supercrawl was an absolute success and Aaron & Paul knocked it out of the park with the Fashion Zone. It has never been better and I sincerely hope they take it up every year to come.
