As my style has evolved and changed over the years a few things have stayed true. I have played with all sorts of outfits and trends but my style sensibility has remained the same in my heart. At the root of my fashion journey I am a lover of classic femininity with a bit of an edge.
Growing up, I was a big fan of movies based in the 30’s and 50’s and I always admired the simple silhouettes that accentuated a woman’s curves. Who knew that years later my style would be so reminiscent of those movies and the women they portrayed. Today I tend to stick to two distinct silhouettes – a form fitting pencil or a floaty A-line – both of which highlight the shape of my body and feel slightly vintage. I feel like those movies had a bit of influence on how I learned to accept my body as it is.
This particular outfit was inspired by one of those movies I watched constantly – Crybaby. Crybaby is a cult classic love story about 1950’s Baltimore, when a bad boy (a drape) wins the heart of a good girl (a square) and there is a whole lot of scandalous behaviour and love ballads. One of my favourite characters is a classic bad girl greaser named Wanda and I took one of her outfits and recreated it with a little twist of lace.
I hope you liked my Wanda inspired outfit. Have you seen Crybaby? If not you absolutely need to, if only for Johnny Depp.
