What’s In A Name?

Hey Beauties!

Today I wanted to share something a little more personal with all of you. Whenever I meet someone in person and we talk about La Belle Sirene, the first question they ask is “what does your name mean?” It has become such a common question that I thought maybe you were wondering too!

When I was a little girl I was pretty much obsessed with fairytales and anything Disney, the Little Mermaid in particular. I really related to the red headed mermaid and I was completely convinced that I was a mermaid too – I’m not ashamed to admit that I still believe this! Well, growing up my Nana was a huge part of my life, she lived with us and was my second mom of sorts. She taught me a million things and she was also the person that sparked my interest in makeup. She was a beautiful woman who exuded glamour and class and I always admired her. One of my favourite memories is of watching her put on her lipstick and now I think of her every time I do. Well when I was going through my mermaid obsession my Nana gave me a book, it was one of those books that you order from a catalogue and they come personalized with a specific name. The book she gave me was a story about mermaids and I loved it because I was the main character. My Nana had given me my dream of being a real mermaid in the best way she could. I still have that book and I will never part with it because that little book and my Nana meant so much to me and still do to this day.

So when I decided to start a blog, I tried to think of a name that would really truly speak for who I was and what was important to me. I instantly thought of my Nana because she has always been an inspiration and I knew she would be proud of me for following my dreams. She instilled a number of things in me including my love my makeup, my obsession with Paris (her favourite city) and my dreams of being a mermaid so I combined all of those things and came out with La Belle Sirene – The Beauty Mermaid.

I miss my Nana everyday so it’s really nice to have a little bit of her with me while I follow my dreams.

Where did you get your name?

What a heartwarming story Courtney! I must admit that I was curious about the name of your blog, and I'm glad to know the beautiful background it has. It definitely identifies you as a blogger and inspires other persons to follow their dreams (and believe in mermaids too). The name of my blog has been changed tons of times but after brainstorming with my sister, who is the person who knows everything about me, we came with my actual name because I love everything striped so I feel identified with the name :)Fabi | http://www.agirlandherstripes.com

That's such a beautiful story! I can tell how much you love your Nana. My personal blog came first (Simply Andrea) so I wanted something that tied into that. I just kept trying names out in domain finders, twitter, and Youtube to see what was still available. LOL. Way less glamorous than yours.

My god, I love this story! I used to be obsessed with all things mermaid (still kinda am)(I JUST REALISED YOU HAVE RED HAIR, SO YOU'RE ALMOST LIKE ARIEL), but I totally remember those ads for those storybooks where you could insert your name into! Your nana sounds like a wonderful lady, and your blog name has always been beautiful tbh.

What a beautiful way to honor your Nana and I wish I had such a touching back story to my blog name. In fact, I should have NOT included the word "Cosmetic" in it, but now I'm 4 years in too deep!
