The Autumn Edit

People always make a mad dash when autumn and winter come around, switching out their wardrobes, putting away the sandals in favour of boots and pulling out the hats and mittens. Too often, something is forgotten, something that I think is a massive step in preparing yourself for the changing seasons – switching up your makeup and skincare.

During the spring and summer I like to wear minimal makeup, usually consisting of lighter bases and brighter coloured lips but autumn and winter is a completely different story. I like to think of the colder months as the time to play with more dramatic looks, warmer colours, bolder lips and smokey eyes. I truly think that fall is my favourite season in terms of how creative I can be with makeup. Now that fall is upon us and winter is coming soon, I thought I would share my go-to makeup products on a cozy autumn day.

A good base is key to success with any makeup look so for mine I like to focus on a healthy glow to counteract any possible dullness. I always start off with a little bit of the L’oreal Lumi Magique Light Infusing Primer, it has an amazing opalescent shimmer that subtly adds just the right amount of glow without any glitter. I then follow up with my L’oreal True Match Foundation, which I apply using a Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge to achieve an airbrush finish. To cover up any redness or dark circles I place a bit of the NYX HD Photogenic Concealer Wand in a ‘V’ shape under my eyes and around my nose. I set that with a bit of translucent powder and then prime my eyelids using the L’oreal Colour Riche Eyeshadow Primer Stick.

Now that I have achieved a healthy, glowing, almost flawless base I like to focus on the eyes. This is the bit that tends to change the most because I am constantly playing with different shades, colours and techniques but on a day to day basis I use the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette to add a bit of definition to the crease and highlight to the brow. I always finish off the eyes with a nice cat wing using the Maybelline Master Precise Felt Tip Liner Pen. Of course no look is complete without a bold eyebrow so I always fill them in with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz and then set them with the Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow Brow Gel.

Time for the finishing touches – blush and a bold lip. For the fall season I love to wear a blush that is a bit warmer in tone, something that is a nude, berry or mauve. My current favourite is the Benefit Cosmetics Rockateur Boxed Blush, it also has a bit of shimmer to add even more glow to my complexion. The last step is a nice bold lip and I have been switching back and forth between a mauvey nude or a bold berry like the Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipstick in the shade 14 or the WetnWild MegaLast Matte Lipstick in the shade Cherry Bomb.

So that is my classic makeup look for the autumn/winter season, do you like to switch up your makeup when the seasons change?

I always shift my makeup when the weather turns — I just posted a fall 2014 tutorial on my blog actually. I'm all about a light smoky eye + a dark lip 😀
