These buttery soft colour balms have been a favourite in the beauty community for a long time and a definite favourite in my collection for the past year.
And now with the release of NYX butter lipsticks (so exciting!) I wanted to revisit both lines so i can compare when i manage to get my hands on them.
Both the Revlon and the Maybelline come in a sleek silver bullet with a translucent colour coded shell. I absolutely adore the packaging of both, they make it incredibly easy to find your exact colour and they look adorable on a vanity. I must admit that between the two i prefer the Revlon, the colour coding is much more obvious and i can’t get over the adorable quilting.
The lip butters are a super creamy and hydrating balm with mango, shea and coconut butter that create a sheer but buildable wash of colour. They feel weightless on the lips and last quite a few hours. I find they are best applied when dabbed onto the lips and then rubbed in with a finger to set the colour.
The colour whispers are almost identical to the butters but with more of a gel like feel that glides over the lips and never quite settles. They have no waxes or oils but offer no other natural hydration methods. They don’t blend quite as well as the butters and i find the pigmentation is not quite as strong. They do however have a lovely floral scent.
I own 5 of the lip butters varying from coral to a deep red. They offer shades that fall into every colour category and they range from vivid to neutral.

I also own 4 of the colour whispers that mostly fall into a rosy spectrum. They’re deeper colours do not show up as vivid as i would hope and the neutral shades all seemed too similar. But They do have a more consistent formula in terms of patchiness.

Overall, i think that the Revlon Lip Butters steal the show and i absolutely can not wait to see how the NYX compare.
Have you tried any of the NYX Butter Lipsticks yet?
