Glow-Getter | The 4 BEST Powder Highlighters From The Drugstore | Reviews & Swatches

Hey Beauties!

My makeup routine and the exact products that I use change on a daily basis. I have my staples (the products I repurchase again and again) but when it comes to blush, bronzer, shadow and highlight I like to switch it up and try new things or even reincorporate products that I haven't used in awhile.

I think this is a really smart way to venture outside of your comfort zone and keep your routine fresh and up to date. It can become an expensive habit if you stick to prestige products only (which I'm sometimes guilty of) so I have really been trying to incorporate
more affordable choices into my arsenal.

The drugstore has been seriously upping its game lately and a good chunk of new releases are just as good as their more expensive counterparts. This is especially true when it comes to highlighting powders and I have rounded up the 4 best ones that you need in your rotation.

ONE.

The Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighters ($6 USD/$8 CAD) are a favourite of the Kardashians, especially Khloe who has posted about it multiple times. They have a baked formula so they have a slightly drier, denser formula than you may not be used to but it translates to a beautiful soft glow that can't really be overdone.

They come in 5 shades all of which have a pearly finish and a different undertone. There is Radiant Lights (a champagne), Peach Lights (a peach), Golden Lights (a light beige gold), Rose Gold Lights (a rose gold), and Matte Lights (a matte white). They are only available at Ulta

TWO.

The Maybelline Master Chrome By Face Studio Metallic Highlighters ($10 USD/$13 CAD) are still relatively new, having just been released early last year. They started as a single shade (molten gold) and have now expanded to included two more (rose gold and prismatic). The name "master chrome" is the perfect description for their intense melted metallic, high shine finish.

They have the most blinding finish of any of these highlighters and they are also extremely pigmented. There are actual metallic pigments infused within the powder particles to give a highly reflective glow. They have a very soft, super creamy texture that crumbles in the pan but melts into the skin.

THREE.

The Wet n' Wild MegaGlow Highlighting Powders ($5 USD/$7 CAD) are not only the most affordable option on this list but they might just be my favourite. The MegaGlow range started with only 2 shades but they were such a hit that they have expanded into 4 permanent shades - Blossom Glow (pink champagne), Crown of My Canopy (rose gold), Precious Petals (true champagne), Golden Flower Crown (yellow gold) - with limited edition options popping up all of the time.

They have a truly beautiful formula that is very reminiscent of a higher end product. The ultra finely milled powder is velvety smooth and feels creamy to the touch, meaning it applies like a second skin. The formula is infused with rich, shimmering pearl pigments that give it a soft luminous glow and great colour payoff without any glitter.

FOUR.

The Milani Strobelight Instant Glow Powders ($10 USD/$13 CAD) are another more recent release. They began with just 4 shades - Afterglow, Dayglow, Sunglow, Glowing - and have now expanded into 8 with limited edition versions being added regularly. They are described as a strobing powder, meaning they are designed to give a smooth sheen to the skin and a rather vibrant luminosity to wherever it is placed.

They are formulated with light reflecting pearls suspended in a super fine powder and there is no visible shimmer.

How To Tips

1. Choose a highlighter based on the intensity you desire.
2. Choose your brush
- a dense cheek brush packs on more pigment
- a fluffy fan brush delivers a more subtle yet targeted application
3. Blend in with a damp sponge for a more natural finish
4. Mix and match to make your perfect shade (lighten/deepen)
5. Apply in the inner corners, under the brow bone and the centre of the lid to brighten eyes
6. Layer with liquids for a more dynamic effect
