That Riviera Glow | NARS Bord de Plage Highlighting & Bronzing Palette | Review & Swatches

That Riviera Glow | NARS Bord de Plage Highlighting & Bronzing Palette | Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

Hey Beauties!

Summer has come and gone and we have finally found ourselves in my personal favourite season of the year - fall. Alongside the pumpkins, cider scented candles, cozy scarves and haunted houses come a shift in the makeup we wear everyday.

It's time to say goodbye to pastel eye shadows and coral lips and say hello to dramatic lipsticks, smokey eyes and a nude cheek. One aspect of my makeup routine that never changes, no matter the season, is my all over glowing, sun-kissed, radiantly warm complexion.

To achieve that golden goddess look, I love to play with both radiant bronzers and illuminators to create a multi-dimensional effortless glow. It's all about the formulas and the undertones of the products you use and the way you layer them.

One new product that has everything you need to achieve this look all in one spot is the new Limited Edition NARS Bord De Plage Highlighting & Bronzing Palette ($72 CAD/$59 USD)

That Riviera Glow | NARS Bord de Plage Highlighting & Bronzing Palette | Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The Details

This stunning multipurpose palette has NARS' signature soft matte black packaging with a beautiful artistic design on the front and a large mirror inside. It contains 6 (0.12oz) sleek pans with NARS embossed on the top of the powders for a chic added touch. There are 4 opalescent highlighters and 2 SunWash Diffusing Bronzers, offering a shade option for just about any skin tone.

That Riviera Glow | NARS Bord de Plage Highlighting & Bronzing Palette | Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The Bord De Plage Palette includes 4 out of this world highlighting shades, all of which give off the most beautiful luminous sheen with no obvious glitter or shimmer!

Rifage is the lightest shade and is described as a glistening pearl
Corniche is the second lightest shade and is described as a soft pink shimmer.
Crique is the third shade and is described as a pale gold shimmer
Galet is the deepest shade and is described as a golden bronze shimmer

These illuminators as absolutely stunning and they feel so incredibly luxurious! The powders are super soft and buttery smooth with the finest texture that doesn't emphasize lines or pores. They are very pigmented and they melt into the skin to look like a wet sheen that can be subtle or more intense.

The palette also includes 2 of their SunWash Diffusing Bronzers, which are light diffusing bronzing powders that add a natural looking warmth that becomes one with the skin.

Laguna is the lighter shade and is described as a medium matte brown.
Casino is the deeper shade and is described as a darker version of Laguna.

These bronzers are simply beautiful with a sheerer finish that looks so natural and authentic on the skin. They are best used for an all over dose of sun and they can be mixed with the illuminators to add a touch of sheen. The powders have a firmer consistency than the highlighters so it's best to use a denser brush but even with the harder texture there is no kick back.

Tips & Tricks

The palette is designed to be used in an artistic manner, NARS wants you to play with the colours provided, mix them together, layer them for more dimension or even use them wet for a more intense sheen. This palette gives you the ability to explore and create your perfect all over glow.

Personally I love to apply the lighter toned bronzer along the cheekbones, temples, forehead and neck to add a subtle warmth to the skin. I then like to mix two of the highlight shades and then apply them on the high points of my face, blending them in with the bronzer as I go. I will then take the lightest pearl shade on a wet brush and place it precisely on the very top of my cheekbone, the tip of the nose, the brow bone and the inner corner. The final result is a lit from within, radiant glow with a touch of warmth.

The Finishing Touch

The perfect finishing touch to your glowing, sun-kissed look is a subtle metallic eye and the NARS Velvet Shadow Stick ($35 CAD) is the perfect product for just that!

These beautiful cream eyeshadows in stick form are a must have in every makeup bag. They take the guesswork out of makeup with the ability to swipe directly onto the lid and blend in with your finger (or a brush). Once set they last all day long and look like you put in so much more effort than you did.

They come in both matte and shimmer shades but the light champagne/gold shimmers are my favourite! Down below are the shades Nepal, Corfu and Dark Angel

Wedding Wednesday | My Bridal Beauty Look For The Big Day | Product Recommendations For A Glowy, Full Glam

Wedding Wednesday | My Bridal Beauty Look For The Big Day | Product Recommendations For A Glowy, Full Glam | labellesirene.ca

Hey Beauties!

Welcome back to Wedding Wednesday! S and I got married just about a month and a half ago and we have been loving every minute of married life. We feel so blessed to have had the wedding of our dreams and a family that has helped us make the transition so smoothly.

We unfortunately were not able to go on our honeymoon due to a back injury but we know that God has a plan and it is all in his timing. We are so grateful for this change in schedule because we would have been in Florida at this very moment. Not only that but this injury and the following lifestyle changes have brought us so much closer to God and for that we are endlessly thankful. We will now be heading on our honeymoon in February and we will also be celebrating my birthday.

While I'm busy counting down the days, I thought I would share a few most Wedding Wednesday posts to show you bits and pieces of our big day. Being the beauty lover that I am, I thought I would start with my Bridal Beauty look and my recommendations a Glowy, Full Glam.

The Look

Leading up to our wedding, I went back and forth on what I envisioned myself looking like but after testing out a couple of different ideas I knew exactly what I wanted! On an everyday basis, I prefer a full glam look. I tend to stray away from anything natural for a more full coverage, fully contoured, highlighted and smoked out face. So I didn't want my wedding day to be any different!

I left the actual details of the look to my beautiful best friend and makeup artist Jordanna because she knows me inside and out and I knew that I would love whatever she did. I simply told her that I wanted to have seriously glowy skin with a bit of colour and a mauve toned eye. I also gave her a few products that I wanted to make sure were used but everything else was left up to her!

The Products

There were a few specific products that I felt so strongly about using on this day, products that were either my absolute favourites or products that had been purchased for my wedding in particular.

Stila Cosmetics Aqua Glow Serum Foundation ($59 CAD) - one of my ride or die foundations for a more lightweight, ultra glowy base that lets your skin shine through. It is an ionized water based foundation that feels like absolutely nothing on the skin but provides buildable light to medium, natural looking coverage. It is formulated with hyaluronic acid and minerals for a hydrating, nourishing wear as well as highly refractive multi-reflective pigments that give you an ethereal glow. I have a full review on this foundation (here).

Smashbox Cosmetics Studio Skin 24HR Waterproof Concealer ($29 CAD) - another ride or die product that I honestly haven't said enough about! This is my everyday concealer, it's waterproof (for the watery eyes), hydrating (for the dry eyes), and oil-free with a natural matte finish and medium to full coverage! It's one of the only concealers with a shade light enough for me to use to highlight under my eyes and to top it all off, there are 9 more shades! It is also formulated with light diffusing spheres to help highlight the eye area and smooth out fine lines.

Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist ($58 CAD) - one of my favourite luxury products, this moisturizing mist is designed to be used under or over makeup. It soothes, hydrates and gives you a serious dewy glow! It is actually a skincare product so it contains botanical oils, humectants, red algae, hyaluronic acid and green tea. It is more of a skincare mist that gives you a glow than a glowy setting spray that will lock your makeup in place (like the CoverFX Illuminating Setting Spray).

Too Faced Cosmetics Milk Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer ($38 CAD) - a staple in my collection, this beautiful bronzer is infused with real cocoa powder and comes in three chocolatey shades for every skintone. The Milk Chocolate shade is gorgeous on light complexions with a neutral undertone that covers redness and adds a beautiful warmth to the skin. It is also wonderful when layered to contour!

Marc Jacobs Beauty Air Blush Soft Glow Duo in Flesh & Fantasy ($57 CAD) - a stunning blush that I bought just for this day! A powder blush duo with stripes of an ivory shimmer and a natural bronze tan for customizable colour. Blend the stripes together for a radiant, natural looking glow and a touch of warmth on the cheeks. The powder is silky soft, ultra lightweight and it blends like a dream!

Diorskin Nude Air Luminizing Powder in 001 Nude Glow ($68 CAD) - the perfect luxurious touch to finish off my makeup! I wanted to have one special prestige piece to use specifically for my wedding and I knew it was going to be this highlighting powder. This stunning lightweight powder truly is light as air with a virtually undetectable texture that melts into the skin seamlessly. It is formulated with highly concentrated illuminating pigments that give you a gorgeous glowing, lit from within (to the max!) complexion.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Pure Hollywood ($26) - my favourite everyday nude (pale mauve nude) lip in a gorgeous full coverage liquid formula that lasts ALL day long through eating, drinking and smooching.

L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara in Blackest Black Waterproof ($13.99 CAD) - my current favourite mascara that I knew I couldn't possibly live without on my wedding day. This beauty gives you incredible separation, volume, length, curl and drama in just two coats. The brush is made of natural bristles that capture and coat each and every lash in ultra black liquid. You can read my full review here

To finish off my makeup, Jordanna used a mixture of Makeup Geek and Anastasia Beverly Hills single eye shadows in mauve and purple tones. She aimed for a mauve smokey eye with a bright metallic champagne lid. She then lined my lashes and added a dramatic set of falsies. Of course, the final step was to set everything with the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray (full review here) which means nothing will move or fade on the longest yet most important day of my life!

I was SO SO beyond happy with my final bridal beauty look. I left it all up to Jordanna and I knew she would make my dreams come true. She did exactly what I wanted and then totally exceeded my expectations. It was like she read my mind and came up with something that I loved even more that I could have imagined. She even did my hair!

Summer Lovin' | Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzing Collection | Hoola Lite & Quickie Contour Stick Review & Swatches

Summer Lovin' | Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzing Collection | Hoola Lite & Quickie Contour Stick Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

Hey Beauties!

It's that time of year again, when summer is coming to an end and everyone has pumpkin spice on their minds. So while it seems like fall has arrived over night, I still have summer in my heart and I plan on keeping up my glowing goddess, bronzed skin all year round!

Every year when this transitional season comes around I change up my daily makeup drawer but one product that never leaves its spot is my Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzing Powder. It's the perfect neutral toned bronzer with a soft matte finish that looks stunning on just about every skintone.

Benefit has been the ultimate bronzing authority for the longest time and just last year they expanded the Hoola range to include a liquid bronzer, a brush and a body bronzer (you can see my review here). This year they are taking it one step further and adding 2 more products to my everyday, all year round drawer!

Summer Lovin' | Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzing Collection | Hoola Lite & Quickie Contour Stick Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

First up is my personal new favourite, the Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Lite Bronzing Powder ($38 CAD/$29 USD - 0.28 oz). Just like it's sister, this is a classic matte, neutral toned bronzer but Hoola Lite comes in a lighter shade that is frankly HEAVEN SENT for fair skin!

Hoola Lite is a light yellow based brown that gives the perfect touch of a sunkissed glow to my fair skinned girls. The shade is literally perfect because it is practically impossible to look orange or muddy. It is also quite pigmented but not so much that you can over do it or give yourself a bronzer helmet.  The powder itself is incredibly smooth and buttery so it applies and blends out like a dream!

Summer Lovin' | Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzing Collection | Hoola Lite & Quickie Contour Stick Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

This photo shows the difference between the classic Hoola and Hoola Lite. You can see that the shades have the same undertone with only a subtle change in darkness.

The second new addition to the Hoola family is the Hoola Quickie Contour Stick ($38 CAD/ $29 USD). I was so excited for this release because I always use a cream contour whether I am going for a more natural look or something more glam and I prefer a stick formation!

The Quickie Contour Stick is a cream version of the Hoola powder, housed in a luxe gold bamboo tube. It has the same neutral tone with a touch of warmth and a beautiful soft matte finish.

Summer Lovin' | Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzing Collection | Hoola Lite & Quickie Contour Stick Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

Cream contouring may seem confusing and intimidating but it is truly such a simple technique that makes a massive difference to your everyday routine. It gives you the ability to achieve a soft, naturally sculpted look that slims and defines your face without looking muddy or harsh.

The Quickie Contour Stick is a wonderful choice for contour novices as it has a handy domed shaped tip that helps you achieve a smooth, targeted application in just the right spots. It has an easy to use, lightweight, cream to powder formula that applies smoothly, blends effortlessly and builds up easily. One layer (it's very pigmented!) will give you a subtle shape while two or three will take you to seriously sculpted.

(top - bottom - quickie contour stick, dew the hoola swatched & blended )

The two new additions to the Hoola family are frankly heaven sent and they fill out the collection so that it has the perfect combination of products! I love layering the powder and cream products for the perfect natural sunkissed glow with perfectly sculpted cheekbones!

If you are on the fairer skinned side then I highly recommend these two new additions and if you are not they I hope you have a classic Hoola Bronzer in your collection!

Light It Up | Smashbox Cosmetics X Casey Holmes Spotlight Highlighting Trios | Review & Swatches

Light It Up | Smashbox Cosmetics X Casey Holmes Spotlight Highlighting Trios | Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

Hey Beauties!

I am a firm believer that makeup is a form of creative expression, it is an art that is designed to be fun, vibrant and exciting! I love that makeup gives you the ability to discover who you truly are, figure out what works for you and customize your look to best represent you! That's why I'm such a massive fan of brands that look at makeup as an art form and create products that allow you to play, create and discover.

Smashbox Cosmetics is right at the top of my list because everything from their brand identity to the products themselves are created with individuality and customization in mind. Their new Spotlight Highlighting Palettes are an incredible example of just that!

The Spotlight Highlighting Palettes ($40 CAD/$35 USD - 0.30 oz) were created in collaboration with youtuber Casey Holmes who I have been a massive fan of for years! When I heard that Casey was coming out with highlighters I knew they would be amazing because she has always been an advocate for makeup that covers redness and imperfections but never accentuates textures, pores or fine lines.

Light It Up | Smashbox Cosmetics X Casey Holmes Spotlight Highlighting Trios | Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca
(gold palette)

The Details

Their collaboration created two highlighting palettes designed to help you "customize your glow, add dimension, and let your features pop with layers of light".

The palettes come in two shades, Pearl (for fair to light skintones) and Gold (for medium to dark skintones) but I definitely think you can mix and match depending on your preferences because makeup has no real rules.  Each palette contains 3 coordinating powders (turn it on, crank it up & blow a fuse) in the specific shade range and each powder has a different finish that ranges from a subtle glow to a super sparkle.

This trio design gives you the freedom to build and control your glow. You can smooth on the first shade (Turn it On) for a soft all over glow, you can layer on the next shade (Crank it Up) for an intense spotlight effect, or lastly you can top it all off with the third shade (Blow a Fuse) to add a sparkly strobe. I love this system because it truly gives you the chance to play and create your perfect glow all in one small, sturdy compact.

(pearl palette)

The Formulation

The formulation of the powders is another wonderful aspect of these palettes, they are so incredibly well made and they are the only illuminating powders I have tried that work on every skintone and texture.

The 1st and 2nd shade in each palette are so incredibly smooth that they almost feel like a cream to the touch. The powders are velvety smooth and super soft with an ultra-blendable texture that melts into the skin. They are also very nicely pigmented with the perfect amount of colour for a subtle glow in one swipe but it can absolutely be built up to a stronger, more intense gleam.

The 3rd shade in each palette is a different formula entirely with a stiffer, drier texture that delivers a more subtle dose of colour. The reason it is less pigmented is because it's designed to be a delivery system for the mega glow sparkles that will take your highlight to the next level. I love to use the shade as a topper for my highlight and sometimes my blush!

The most magical aspect of these powders is that truly blend and melt into the skin effortlessly. They do not emphasize texture, pores or fine lines AT ALL and that is almost impossible to achieve with any sort of powder product.

The Shade Range

Smashbox really nailed the shade range for these palettes, both the Pearl and Gold palettes were really well thought out with shades that work for any skintone and undertone. Pearl is light enough for the fairest of complexions without looking muddy but has enough colour to it that light to medium skintones can pull it off as well! Gold has a range of tones that work beautifully on almost any skintone even darker, richer complexions.

Gold Palette
- 1 Turn it On - light golden peach with a pearly sheen
- 2 Crank it Up - medium golden copper with a frosty sheen
-3 Blow A Fuse - medium dark copper brown with golden glitter

Pearl Palette
- 1 Turn it On - light creamy yellow with a pearly sheen
- 2 Crank it Up - medium champagne with a sparkling frosty finish
- 3 Blow A Fuse - light to medium golden peach with sparkling glitter

My Final Thoughts

I was honestly so impressed by these palettes, Smashbox and Casey Holmes created the perfect customizable highlighting palettes with an incredible formula that doesn't get enough credit! I really love that Smashbox encourages creativity and individuality within this platform. They understand what makeup is all about and they aren't afraid to create products that might be a little outside of the box.
