Velvet Perfection | Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation Review & Swatches

Velvet Perfection | Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

Hey Beauties!

When it comes to foundation Maybelline is without a doubt my most reached for brand. If you were to take a peek inside my foundation drawer you would count 6 (now 7) Maybelline foundations among a sea of different shades and finishes but hardly any other brands with more than one option. There is just something about a Maybelline foundation that always seems to get it right and always becomes a fast favourite in a makeup junkies collection. With so many hits, my expectations were sky high for the new Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation and I was not let down.

The Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation retails for $16.99 CAD/$10.99 USD and comes in a 1fl oz squeeze tube (super handy!). It is available in 12 shades with an array of tones for light to medium complexions but is lacking on the darker end of the scale.

Velvet Perfection | Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The Dream Velvet Foundation is an incredibly unique foundation with a soft matte finish and a hydrating feel. It defies all traditional theories about matte foundations with it's ability to perfect the skin without drawing any moisture or accentuating any dryness.

It has a one-of-a-kind gel whipped formula that means it sits somewhere between a cream and a liquid and feels more like a mousse with a cooling gel sensation. The thick mousse texture glides onto the skin effortlessly and seems to melt right in leaving nothing but perfected skin.

It becomes one with your skin within seconds and gives buildable medium coverage that smooths over the skin and weightlessly covers every imperfection without ever becoming heavy or obvious. The foundation seems to erase and blur the appearance of spots, pores and fine lines while leaving a smooth canvas that looks fresh & flawless.

Velvet Perfection | Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The coverage is easy to build (I prefer to use a beauty blender) and each layer blends seamlessly into the last. It keeps it's ultra lightweight feeling no matter how much you apply and it never cakes up or sticks to dry patches. You are left with a soft matte, airbrushed finish that appears like naturally beautiful skin.

Velvet Perfection | Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

While this foundation is giving you a gorgeous matte complexion on the surface it is working it's magic underneath all of that coverage. Maybelline has some how created a formula that gives you that perfect matte finish that never looks flat or dull and holds it own against shine all day long while also hydrating the skin.

The formula includes silicone and glycerin both of which are natural humectants meaning they draw water from the air and lock it into the skin. These ingredients help the foundation find the perfect balance between matte and hydrated by maintaining a sufficient level of moisture in the skin.

It keeps skin moist and hydrated to prevent dry skin from getting drier and oily skin from producing oil. All skin needs hydration, it's just all about balance and this foundation seems to have found it. By giving skin the moisture it needs you prevent it from working against itself and the foundation. The end result is a lovely hydrating foundation that feels good on, keeps skin happy and wears beautifully (8hrs).

Velvet Perfection | Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The Dream Velvet Foundation gives you the best of both worlds with a flawless matte complexion and happy, hydrated skin. By finding the perfect balance it gives all skin types the chance to try a matte foundation that won't dry them out or produce more shine.

The application is an absolute breeze and the finish is breath taking. With one use you will fall in love with your skin again.

The Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation is a true winner and I highly recommend it! You can find it at your local drugstore or online at Ulta or Well.ca

Finding The Light | Becca Cosmetics Backlight Priming Filter Review & Swatches

Finding The Light | Becca Cosmetics Backlight Luminous Priming Filter Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

Hey Beauties!

We all know that the sub-zero temperatures and icy winds of winter can reek havoc on our skin and when you have a naturally dry complexion to begin with (like myself) you need to learn to fake the look of a healthy glow. A good skincare routine will get you started but for that big helping hand try dabbling in liquid illumination.

Liquid illuminators are the key to achieving fresh, radiant skin all year round but they are even more essential in the winter when powder products might not be your best friend. Take the cold weather as an invitation to find the light and the best place to start is with a primer like the new Becca Cosmetics Backlight Priming Filter

The Becca Cosmetics Backlight Priming Filter not only has an amazing name that makes me think of movie sets and stage lighting but it also has a winning concept that ticks off every check mark in my book. It retails for $46 CAD/$38 USD and comes in a stunning 1fl oz frosted glass bottle with a luxe bronze lid and pump.

Finding The Light | Becca Cosmetics Backlight Luminous Priming Filter Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The Backlight Priming Filter is the next generation of Becca's line of glow getters, the Shimmering Skin Perfectors both pressed, poured and liquid have paved the way for it to be perfectly acceptable to gleam from head to toe and now the Backlight Priming Filter is taking it up a notch.

The Backlight Priming Filter is a primer that you apply to fresh skin before the rest of your makeup. It is intended to moisturize, smooth, fill and prep skin for foundation while also adding that signature Becca touch - a radiant glow.

The Priming Filter is infused with 3 "Filtering Luminescent Pearls" which are essentially 3 different tones of crushed pearl that add a drop of diffused light to the formula. The 3 different pearls brighten, correct and highlight skin, acting as an instant filter for your complexion. Think of it as a real life Slumber filter.

The filter creates a diffused, soft focus appearance that helps to blur imperfections, make skin look smoother and of course naturally radiant. The primer uses it's sheer champagne gold tint and luminous sheen to add a candlelit glow all over the face. It is a soft glow as if you are literally lit from within and there is no glitter, sparkle or shine in sight.

Finding The Light | Becca Cosmetics Backlight Luminous Priming Filter Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The Backlight Priming Filter has a unique texture, it is an incredibly lightweight whipped cream that feels like a light lotion and melts right into the skin. It smooths over the face with a slight cooling sensation and adds an immediate boost of moisture. The formula is primarily water based so it continues to hydrate and soothe skin throughout the day.

It is also enriched with Vitamin E to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as Licorice Extract to tone and tighten the skin. It is formulated without parabens, sulfates and phthalates.

Finding The Light | Becca Cosmetics Backlight Luminous Priming Filter Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The Priming Filter can be used in a number of ways, either as a primer an illuminator(to highlight) or a daily no makeup glow giver. As a primer it helps foundation to apply more smoothly and to blend more effectively. It pairs well with sheer to full coverage and both dewy, satin and matte formulas. No matter what you pair it with, the filter extends the wear, adds moisture and creates a flawless airbrushed glow.

In my opinion, the Backlight Priming Filter has all of the attributes of the perfect primer. It hydrates, smooths skin, aids foundation and gives a serious glow. It also smells like roses which I find so soothing. As a long time fan of the Shimmering Skin Perfectors, I knew Becca would create the ultimate concoction and they didn't let me down. If you are in need of a new primer or you just love a good glow then you need to try this primer. If you have oily skin, don't worry just avoid the t-zone!

The Becca Cosmetics Backlight Priming Filter can be purchased at your local Sephora or online at Sephora or Becca Cosmetics

How To Find Your Perfect Palette | Tips & Tricks By Jaclyn Baker | Guest Post

Hey Beauties!

I genuinely feel like it is so incredibly important to be social in a career that takes you out of the normal workplace. I run and edit my blog from my home and that means I don't get to chat with coworkers or take coffee breaks with friends so I have found that the key to keeping your sanity is to make friends with bloggers alike.

The beautiful Jaclyn of TheJaclynBaker.com has been such a fantastic supporter and become a great friend so I couldn't be happier to have her take over my blog for the day. Jaclyn is going to be sharing her tips & tricks for cleaning out your collection and narrowing down the perfect palette! Check it out!

---------------------
If there is one thing I am not lacking in my makeup collection, it is palettes!

As I was looking at my palettes, it didn’t take me long to realize, I have way to many!

And you know what else, they are all pretty similar. What can I say, I have my taste and my shopping validates it.

I know I can’t be the only one.

For all of you subscribe to several beauty channels like I do, you know the feeling of being persuaded into checking out the newest palette.

Here’s the deal…
If you have multiple palettes that are almost the same, you are never going to go through them all.

It is proven that when we are faced with to many options, we end up choosing nothing!!

Makeup should not be stressful; in fact it should be the opposite.

I would rather invest in 1 “dream palette” than 5 average palettes.

But then we are faced with figuring out what palette is my dream palette?

I am going to tell you.

I want you to make a list of the top qualities you look for in a palette.

Here is my list.

  • Reasonable cost
  • Size of the products in the palette
  • Size of the package
  • Positive reviews
  • Ingredients
  • Number of shades I like vs. ones I don’t like
  • Quality
  • Practicality
  • Variety
  • Brand reputation

NEXT

Go down the list and re-arrange the list in order of your priority.

NEXT

In order to make room for the new, we must get rid of the old.

  • Pull all of your palettes out of your drawer.
  • Get rid of all the palettes that contain less than half your priorities.

NEXT

  • Go to your local makeup store along with your list
  • When picking out a palette ensure your newest purchase has AT LEAST 4 of your top priorities.

Voila, that is it!

This is what I want you to do…

Leave a comment bellow sharing your favourite palette and why!

Naturally Sculpted | Cream Contouring With Stila's Shape & Shade Custom Contour Duo | Review & Swatches

Cream Contouring With Stila's Shape & Shade Contour Duo | Natural Sculpted Contouring Made Easy | labellesirene.ca

Hey Beauties!

Anyone who knows me, knows that I never do anything half way. I have an all or nothing personality and it tends to make itself known in my creative vices, whether it be makeup, writing or decorating my apartment. When it comes to makeup I am either a full glam kind of girl or a nothing but sunscreen kind of girl, that's just how I function. I will occasionally throw on a no-makeup makeup look when time is crunched but even then I never go without my contour.

My contour routine rotates between a powder (more dramatic) and a cream (more natural) depending on whatever look I'm creating and my absolute go to cream contouring product is the Stila Shape & Shade Custom Contour Duo

The Stila Shape & Shade Custom Contour Duo retails for $52 CAD/$40 USD and comes in three shades - light, medium and deep. It is a cream to matte contour & highlight duo that features one contour and one highlight shade both with 0.35oz of product.

Cream Contouring With Stila's Shape & Shade Contour Duo | Natural Sculpted Contouring Made Easy | labellesirene.ca

The Shape & Shade Duo will give you a natural, flawless contour with a soft, seamless finish and a hint of warmth. The ultra creamy formula melts into skin to accentuate the natural hollows and high points of the face while giving a smooth, naturally sculpted appearance.

The duo has a silkiness that helps it glide over the skin without accentuating patches or texture. It actually features line filling properties that work to instantly blur imperfections and even out the skin with a soft focus "filtered" appearance (I find it glides over the texture on my cheeks and makes them less visible).

The formula is infused with Stila's "high performance technology pigments" which are specially coated to ensure a higher colour payoff and longer wear. That technology results in beautifully pigmented creams offering light, buildable coverage that blends flawlessly with either fingers, a brush or a sponge.

The creams apply smoothly and can be built upon easily with either cream or powder. A little goes a very long way so it's best to apply a small amount, blend it out and add another layer until you get your ideal depth. The cream will set to a velvety matte finish that is water, sweat and transfer proof and lasts for 7-8 hours. If you choose to set it with a powder it will last even longer.

Cream Contouring With Stila's Shape & Shade Contour Duo | Natural Sculpted Contouring Made Easy | labellesirene.ca

The contour shade in the "Light" palette has a great natural shadowy tone to it while also having enough warmth to reflect the natural radiance of skin. When looking for a contour shade, I look for something that is cooler toned but also has warmth and this one is pretty much perfect. When swatched it might look a bit intense but when blended out it looks like you have the most perfect naturally sculpted cheekbones.

The highlight shade is a light cream with a yellow undertone that is great for brightening and accentuating the high points of your face but I do wish it was lighter because it is slightly too dark for my fair skin.

The look above was created using the Stila Shape & Shade Custom Contour Duo and the Stila Stay All Day Bronzer For Face & Body. As you can see it creates the most flawless, "naturally" sculpted cheekbones possible and adds a beautiful warmth and depth on top of that. I absolutely adore how silky the creams are and how they melt right into the skin. The finish they leave is gorgeous and they work so well with other products.

The Stila Shape & Shade Custom Contour Duo is the only cream contour product that has won me over and I cannot recommend it more. You can purchase it at your local Beauty Boutique or Sephora and online at Sephora, Stila, Beauty Boutique, Murale and  Scarlet & Julia

Sculpt & Shade | L'Oreal Brow Stylist Definer & Brow Stylist Prep & Shape Pro Kit Review

Sculpt & Shade | L'Oreal Brow Stylist Definer & Brow Artist Genius Kit Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

Hey Beauties!

If you have been reading my blog for awhile you will know that my brows are one of the most important parts of my routine. I take my eyebrows way more seriously than anyone should but I firmly believe that good eyebrows make for a good day all around.

With that in mind I am a very loyal brow product user, I have found products that I really love and I tend not to stray but when my favourite drugstore brand comes out with new additions to their brow range, I don't even hesitate to test them out.

The last time L'oreal Paris came out with brow products I fell in love (read my review) and I still use the Brow Stylist Plumper every single day. Now I can't wait to add the new Brow Stylist Definer and Brow Stylist Prep & Shape Pro Kit into my daily routine.

Sculpt & Shade | L'Oreal Brow Stylist Definer & Brow Artist Genius Kit Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The new Brow Stylist Definer retails for $11.99 CAD/$8.99 USD and is the long-awaited affordable answer to the infamous Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. It is a super thin retractable pencil made to quickly and easily shape and fill in the brows. It has a slim plastic body with a dense spoolie on one end and a tiny 0.5 mm pencil on the other.

The thin pencil is the perfect size for sculpting out the shape of the brows and filling them in by recreating the individual hairs. It gives you the ability to manipulate any sort of brow, you can make your natural ones look thicker or you can draw very precise thin lines to create a thin tail. It works in exactly the same way as the Brow Wiz with the same size pencil and same amount of product.

The pencil itself has a really lovely creamy texture with just the right amount of waxiness. It glides on easily and sticks to the skin with and without makeup underneath. It is really nicely pigmented and buildable but can easily be sheered out for a more natural look.

There are 3 shades available blonde, brunette and dark brunette all three of which are cooler toned and very flexible. I tried both blonde and brunette and was able to create various tones and depths that worked for me despite not being my usual shade. I do hope that L'oreal will release more shades with various undertones to suit more people.

Sculpt & Shade | L'Oreal Brow Stylist Definer & Brow Artist Genius Kit Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The Brow Stylist Prep & Shape Pro Kit retails for $17.99 CAD and comes in 2 shades, light-medium and medium-dark. It is an all in one kit with absolutely everything you need to do your brows in one pocket sized palette.

The Pro Kit is housed in a sleek black compact and includes a tinted wax, a powder, a pair of mini tweezers and an angled brush & spoolie. The kit gives you the ability to really customize your brows, you can use the products individually or together to create brows that are soft and feathery or defined and picture perfect.

The tinted wax tones the natural colour of your brows while mapping out the shape and managing the hairs. The powder is placed on top to further tint and create the look of a full brow while setting the wax. The combination creates budge proof brows that last through water, sweat and time for up to 12 hours.

Both the powder and the wax are smooth, creamy and incredibly pigmented. They glide onto the skin and blend in easily.

Sculpt & Shade | L'Oreal Brow Stylist Definer & Brow Artist Genius Kit Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca
Soft Feathery Brow with Pro Kit | Sculpted Brow with Definer

Both the Brow Stylist Definer and the Brow Stylist Prep & Shape Pro Kit are incredible products that rival much more expensive options. They are beautifully packaged and the products inside are creamy, ultra pigmented and long lasting.

I highly suggest picking up one or both of the new L'oreal Brow Stylist products and if you haven't tried the Brow Stylist Plumper yet, run out and grab one! Both products are out now at your local drugstore.

My Newest Obsession | Tarte Cosmetics' Tartelette 2 In Bloom Palette Review & Swatches

A Warm Tone Lover's Dream | Tartelette 2 In Bloom Palette Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

Hey Beauties!

As an eyeshadow palette obsessive I am constantly collecting the newest releases, using them a few times and then putting them away only to reach for my single shadows. I will pull them back out every once and awhile but on the day to day I reach for my hand picked Z-palettes purely because they have every single shade I need in one spot. So it says a lot when a palette manages to push all of those singles out of the way and become my everyday choice.

Since the day I opened up the new Tarte Cosmetics Tartelette 2 In Bloom Palette I have not even touched another eyeshadow so I couldn't wait to share it with you.

A Warm Tone Lover's Dream | Tartelette 2 In Bloom Palette Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The Tartelette In Bloom palette is a warm toned lovers dream come true and might just be my favourite palette ever. It retails for $54 CAD/$45 USD and features 12 shadows at 0.053oz each.

The In Bloom palette is the 2nd edition of the classic Tartelette palette that was released last year but where the first palette consisted entirely of matte shadows in shades of pink, cream and purple this one is a whole other ball game. (So yes, you do need both)

A Warm Tone Lover's Dream | Tartelette 2 In Bloom Palette Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The In Bloom palette is full of warmer, richer neutrals with shades of taupe, cream, brown, peach and burgundy in a mix of creamy mattes and stunning metallics. This palette contains every shade you could possibly need for simple day to day looks or even more complicated smokey eyes.

It has the perfect shades for your base, your crease and your lid with various tones for contouring and sculpting your eyes to make them pop and of course a few gorgeous shimmers.

A Warm Tone Lover's Dream | Tartelette 2 In Bloom Palette Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The palette itself is absolutely stunning with a slim metallic gold compact (perfect for travel!) and a watercolour painting of a blooming flower on the lid. Inside is a massive mirror that is perfection for doing your makeup and the Tartelette name in a purple font.

The 12 never before seen shadows sit in rows of 4 across and 3 down and are arranged from light to dark in groups of different tones so it is easy to decide which shadows should go together. Each shadow is also accompanied by it's name written directly on the palette.

A Warm Tone Lover's Dream | Tartelette 2 In Bloom Palette Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The shadows are all named after qualities or adjectives that describe the tarte woman, they are all uplifting and inspirational. The first row from left to right has Charmer (an off white), Jetsetter (a warm taupe), Rocker (a satin taupe) and Smokeshow (a black brown). {Tilt your screen back to see the true swatch without glare}

A Warm Tone Lover's Dream | Tartelette 2 In Bloom Palette Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The second row from left to right features Flower Child (a peachy nude), Smarty Pants (a tan), Firecracker (a metallic bronze copper) and Activist (a dark brown).

A Warm Tone Lover's Dream | Tartelette 2 In Bloom Palette Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The third row from left to right features Funny Girl (a shimmer champagne), Sweetheart (a peach), Rebel (a chestnut brown) and Leader (an aubergine).

A Warm Tone Lover's Dream | Tartelette 2 In Bloom Palette Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The shadows are all formulated with Tarte's signature Amazonian Clay to deliver incredible colour payoff, lasting power and blendability. All of the shadows are absolutely amazing, the matte shades are some of the best I have ever encountered. They are super silky, ultra creamy and smooth. They are slightly powdery but in the best possible way. The powdery aspect only translates to smooth even pigmentation similar to Lorac or Kat Von D powders. They are not at all dry or chalky but just the opposite.

All of the shades (even the shimmers) are super vibrant and packed with pigment which translates to intense payoff on the lids so it's best to tap your brush off before applying to get the best application. They all blend beautifully with just a few strokes of your brush and are all around incredibly easy to work with.

The only shade that didn't quite live up the my expectations was Funny Girl, which has a much harder formula, it is not as smooth or pigmented as every other shadow.

(Wearing Flower Child, Sweetheart, Rebel & Leader)

The Tartelette 2 In Bloom palette is a really amazing well rounded palette. It has every shade you need to create a variety of looks and the quality is incredible. If you are in need of a neutral everyday palette or even if you are just a makeup collector, you need to have this baby in your life.

You can purchase the Tartelette 2 In Bloom Palette at your local Sephora or online at Sephora, Ulta & Tarte

New Year New Skin With Neutrogena Acne Solutions

New Year New Skin With Neutrogena Acne Solutions | labellesirene.ca

Hey Beauties!

When the beginning of a new year comes around, we all get this idea in our heads that we need to make crazy resolutions and create big changes in our lives. I have a different way of looking at what a new year really means and I think it has a much more positive impact.

I see the new year as a new start, a fresh chance to re-evaluate the things in your life that might not be working. I see it as a chance to simplify and begin again. This year I have decided that I need to take a step back and remove all of the clutter and complications from my skincare routine. So when Neutrogena (my favourite skincare brand in high school!) reached out and asked if I would like to explore their classic acne care products I felt like it was the perfect opportunity to start from scratch.

New Year New Skin With Neutrogena Acne Solutions | labellesirene.ca

Neutrogena is the #1 Dermatologist recommended brand in North America with it's classic formulas and simplified yet high quality products that provide results without the complications or the high price tag.

Neutrogena sent me four of their best products to help me reach my fresh and simplified skincare goals while fighting acne and keeping my skin hydrated.

The Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash ($10) is a gentle oil and alcohol free cleanser with a silky gel consistency.

New Year New Skin With Neutrogena Acne Solutions | labellesirene.ca

It features 2% Salicylic Acid and Neutrogena's exclusive MicroClear technology that cuts right through oil and penetrates deep down to deliver the maximum amount of acne medication. It effectively delivers the treatment you need without clogging your pores and even helps to prevent acne from forming in the future by balancing the PH levels in your skin and removing excess sebum.

When mixed with water the bright orange gel turns into a creamy white lather that smooths over the skin melting away any makeup, dirt or debris. A tiny bit goes a long way to make your skin feel refreshed and clean but never dry or tight.

New Year New Skin With Neutrogena Acne Solutions | labellesirene.ca

The Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Moisturizer ($13) is the next step in my new routine. It is a multitasking water based moisturizer that hydrates skin while also working to keep acne at bay.

The non greasy lotion is ultra lightweight and applies smoothly with a slight cooling sensation for light daily hydration. The water based formula means your skin will drink it right up, absorbing in mere seconds and leaving a satin matte finish.

The addition of 0.5% Salicylic Acid keeps pores clear and continues to fight the production of acne all day long.

New Year New Skin With Neutrogena Acne Solutions | labellesirene.ca

Next up is the Neutrogena Rapid Clear Spot Gel ($12), a clear gel based spot treatment that will reduce redness and pimple size within 4 hours.

Featuring 2% Salicylic Acid and MicroClear technology, the spot treatment sends the potent acne fighting medicine straight into pores to dry out spots and reduce irritation quickly. It can be applied up to 3 times a day but I love to use it before bed. A tiny bit goes a really long way and to avoid transferring bacteria I like to apply a little dot with a cotton bud.

New Year New Skin With Neutrogena Acne Solutions | labellesirene.ca

Those three steps leave my skin feeling refreshed, clean and nourished. This simplified routine is effective at fighting all of those nasty spots while keeping my skin balanced and healthy. I have noticed a really fantastic difference in my skin and I think taking a step back to a less complicated routine has been key.

To make sure my skin is feeling and looking it's best from head to toe, I have also added the Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash ($10) to my routine.

New Year New Skin With Neutrogena Acne Solutions | labellesirene.ca

This gorgeously scented body wash features the same MicroClear technology and Salicylic Acid to fight and prevent breakouts on the back, chest and shoulders. It features 100% naturally derived grapefruit extract and Vitamin C to cleanse and treat while giving you a tropical shower experience.

I have to say, I don't have any issues with body acne but I love using this body wash simply for the amazing scent! My boyfriend has also started using it and he has noticed a drastic difference in the breakouts on his shoulders.

After adding all of these Neutrogena products into my regime I definitely think I have achieved my goal of a fresh start for the new year! A massive thanks to Neutrogena for helping me start from scratch.

New In | L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation Review & Demo

NEW | L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation | Review & Demo | A Serious Glow Getter | labellesirene.ca

Hey Beauties!

I tend to be a bit of a stickler when it comes to foundations, once I find a formula or brand I like I stick to it like glue. I rarely venture outside of my foundation comfort zone but lately I have been trying to be a little bit more adventurous. I added a pigment based foundation and a foundation stick into my collection and now I've jumped into the world of cushion foundations (something I didn't think I would ever do!), all thanks to L'oreal.

The new L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation is the first affordable and easily attainable version of the cushion compact trend that is sweeping the beauty world right now.

Prestige brands like Lancome, Laneige, and Amore Pacific have all released their own take on the popular Korean technology but never before has it been done by such a mainstream brand. L'oreal is setting the stage for a whole new world (or culture) of beauty to come our way.

NEW | L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation | Review & Demo | A Serious Glow Getter | labellesirene.ca

The Details

The L'oreal Lumi Cushion Foundation retails for $24.99 CAD/ $16.99 USD and features 14.6g of product. It comes in 8 shades (12 in the US) that follow the same system as the original True Match foundation (one of my holy grails!).

It uses the letters W, C and N to signify warm, cool and neutral tones and then has a number to signify the shade. For example W2 is a warm toned foundation for light skintones. W1 would be lighter and C1 would be lighter and cooler toned.

The Lumi Cushion comes in an absolutely stunning rose gold compact that features 2 separate sections. The first has a nicely sized mirror and a cover that holds the sponge applicator. That cover clicks firmly in and out of place to reveal the cushion underneath a seal.

NEW | L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation | Review & Demo | A Serious Glow Getter | labellesirene.ca

The Technology

The idea behind a cushion foundation is that a fine sponge is filled with a liquid foundation. In this case L'oreal's "patented micro-aerated cushion is drenched with water enrobed pigments delivering a liquid foundation that glides onto skin effortlessly." The innovative packaging takes a liquid foundation and makes it a million times more travel friendly. What would usually be incredibly messy is now easy as 1,2,3 and perfect for on the go touch ups.

The Application

The new form of packaging can seem slightly confusing but it is really very simple. The foundation can be applied using the provided applicator, a beauty blender or a brush. I have tried applying it in all three ways and I have received the same results every time apart from a difference in coverage. Overall my favourite method was by using the provided sponge because it is quick and easy. To apply, all you need to do is -

1. Gently press the sponge into the cushion to release the foundation.

2. Tap or press the sponge onto the skin quickly and evenly to apply.

3. Layer if need be and then press over the skin with the sponge to blend.

The Formula

As the name would suggest, the Lumi Cushion foundation is a member of the Lumi family, a range that incorporates illuminating pigments to give a pretty serious glow. The Lumi primer, concealer and highlighters are some of my absolute favourite base products and this new addition is no exception.

NEW | L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation | Review & Demo | A Serious Glow Getter | labellesirene.ca

The Lumi Cushion foundation offers a natural second skin finish that makes the complexion look soft, smooth and flat out flawless. It has sheer to medium coverage that is easily buildable and blendable with no issues on dry patches, fine lines or blemishes. One to two layers will conceal redness, pigmentation spots and dullness while brightening up the face and adding a heavy dose of glow.

The foundation has a thin yet creamy consistency that glides and smooths onto the face. It applies beautifully and seems to sink right in becoming one with the skin. It also has a slight tackiness that feels refreshing and cooling until it sets, when it leaves a stunning satin finish with an intense lit from within glow.

NEW | L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation | Review & Demo | A Serious Glow Getter | labellesirene.ca

The Lumi Cushion foundation not only applies beautifully it wears beautifully.
In the photo above I am not wearing any primer nor any illuminator or highlighting powder. The glow is simply from the foundation alone.

That photo was taken a good hour after application and continued to look exactly the same for the rest of the day. It did not fade, migrate, dry up or become blotchy but stayed perfect for 9 hours.

The L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion is an absolutely flawless foundation, it has the perfect formula and the most gorgeous dewy glow that defies gravity. The packaging is a super fun innovation and I love that I can throw it in my bag for touch ups on the go but the magic is in the foundation itself. I would pay $60+ for this foundation without a second thought, it is a pure gem that I cannot stop using (though I do wish there were more shades!)

I could not recommend the L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion more and I highly suggest that if you have dry, normal or combo skin or even just live for a good glow that you run to your local drugstore and pick one up!

You can find the Lumi Cushion at your local drugstore or online through Well.ca or Ulta.

Don't forget to check out my First Impressions video from the very first time I tried it out!
