A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words | Weekly Instagram Roundup

Hey Beauties!

Happy Saturday! I hope you all had an amazing week! My last couple of days have been crazy with lots of work and a trip into the city to spend time with one of my best friends. Today I'm relaxing, catching up on blog stuff and nursing my back. I have a chronic illness and sometimes my body just can't take the weight of my life and it rebels. This time through a thrown out back. So I will be taking it easy for a few days.

I just found these new Master Strobing Sticks from Maybelline and I am loving them!

We've added a few of our engagement photos around our home and I love having this shot  on my desk to inspire me.

I have been playing with some different products and techniques and I LOVE how this look came out.

I have a bit of an obsession with delicate bralettes, I love the way they look under a simple tank top.

Don't forget to keep up with my day to day on Instagram (@labellesirene_)

Blemish Busters | My Top 3 Acne Fighting Spot Treatments | Reviews & Comparisons

Blemish Busters | My Top 3 Acne Fighting Spot Treatments | Reviews & Comparisons | labellesirene.ca

Hey Beauties!

Let's face it, acne is something that we ALL deal with and we will most likely continue dealing with it for the rest of our lives. Contrary to what we were told as kids, that acne was just a sign of puberty, it sticks around in one form or another throughout our twenties, thirties as so on.

Whether you have super oily or ultra dry skin or something in between. If you suffer from occasional spots or constant cystic bumps, acne is annoying and we will do whatever we can to hide it, treat it or beat it.

Personally, I deal with the occasional cystic spot and quite a few clogged pores that turn into under the skin bumps. Over the years of testing out different products I have constantly gone back to a few specific products to save the day when a pimple arises so I wanted to share my Top 3 Acne Fighting Spot Treatments.

Blemish Busters | My Top 3 Acne Fighting Spot Treatments | Reviews & Comparisons | labellesirene.ca

This sulfur based, biphase treatment is good for all skin types but is not for those with very sensitive skin. It is an intensive blemish banishing acne treatment designed to fit pimples, zits and future breakouts. It is formulated with the highest level of sulfur allowed to effectively heal blemishes, reduce acne and help keep skin free of new breakouts. Sulphur is an incredible ingredient in spot treatments because it does not dry out the skin while disinfecting.

It is a two part product that features a sulphur and zinc oxide based sediment in the bottom of the bottle topped off with alcohol. It contains AHA's that are designed to reduce the appearance of enlarged pores while zinc oxide, a natural mineral, provides oil control by absorbing excess oil production. It also features Salicylic Acid for extra fighting power.

This Salicylic Acid based treatment is good for most skin types but is also on the stronger end of the spectrum. It is a light blue gel that features an active ingredient of Saw Palmetto - a fruit that possesses powerful antiseptic properties and is known to be a potent purifier. It also contains super exfoliators that help to eliminate excess oils and pore clogging debris.

To help with the healing process it contains caffeine and red algae which are meant to calm skin and help relieve redness. Lastly it features Anti-Spot Technology that helps to correct dark spots left behind after a blemish is banished.

This light lotion treatment is safe for all skin types and is the most gentle of the three. It is a Benzoyl Peroxide based treatment that works to eliminate acne-causing bacteria without using any harsh or irritating ingredients like alcohol, menthol or camphor. The gentle formula also contains soothing anti-irritants to help skin heal and reduce redness. It is a lightweight lotion that quickly sets to a matte finish and can even be worn under makeup.

ApplicationTips & Tricks

- start with clean, moisturized face
- use a cotton swab to dip/dab/deposit the product
- use a TINY bit
- only apply it directly on the spot so you don't dry out the surrounding skin
- apply at night so it has time to work it's magic
- use only once a day and be consistent
- don't touch it!

So there you go! Those are my Top 3 Acne Fighting Spot Treatments in order of how much I love them. I hope this helped you learn a little more about these treatments and how to apply them!

Star Light Star Bright | Tarte's Skin Twinkle Highlighting Palette | Review & Swatches

Star Light Star Bright | Tarte's Skin Twinkle Highlighting Palette | Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

Hey Beauties!

No matter what sort of makeup look I am going for there are a few key products that I just can't live without. Whether I'm getting full glam or just applying a few simple go-to goodies I will always need a little bit of concealer, a brow product or two, mascara, a lipstick and a good helping of highlight.

I genuinely believe that a dusting of highlighter can make you look like a million bucks even after a long day at work or a restless night. So with this in mind, I am always looking to pick up the latest "must-have" highlighter and my wish list is a mile or so long.

Right at the very top of that list was the Tarte Cosmetics Rainforest Of The Sea Skin Twinkle Highlighting Palette so it didn't take long for it to hop into my cart.

Star Light Star Bright | Tarte's Skin Twinkle Highlighting Palette | Review & Swatches | labellesirene.ca

The Tarte Cosmetics Skin Twinkle Highlighting Palette ($50 CAD/$42 USD) is a stunning highlighting trio containing 3 universal shades to help you achieve strobed (highlighted) perfection.

There are 2 gorgeous shimmer shades and 1 matte setting powder housed in an absolutely breathtaking gold metallic compact with a beautiful aqua blue wave on the cover and a full sized mirror.

The shimmer shades (2 x 0.085 oz) are stunning and truly shine like stars giving your skin a bright, luminous glow. The two perfecting powders have a very fine shimmer that melts into the skin with no glitter or obvious flecks. They are super smooth and creamy to the touch and while they are beautifully pigmented they are also easily layered and blended for your desired intensity. You can quickly and easily achieve a subtle glow or an out of this world spotlight.

The lightweight powders are truly incredibly silky and once you get through the first layer they feel like butter and they apply beautifully without being patchy or dry.

The lefthand shade in the palette is Sunlight, (a dupe for the Mary Lou Manizer) a lovely light gold (almost champagne) with warm yellow undertones. It the more subtle of the two.

The righthand shade is Moonlight, a gorgeous light medium peachy gold with warm tones that almost resemble a rosy gold. It is the more shimmery powder of the two.

The two shades are beyond gorgeous on their own but mixed together they are breathtaking. They are also best suited for light to medium skin tones but can be used on darker complexions.

The third shade in the palette is a matte setting powder (0.20 oz) that is intended to brighten and correct any darkness or sallowness under the eyes and around the face. It is called Filtered Light and it is a lovely light yellow beige with a matte finish. The shade itself is really beautiful, it has just enough yellow to brighten without overpowering lighter skin tones.

The texture of the powder is not quite as fantastic as the other shades in the palette. It has a rather dry, powdery texture that is slightly hard and chalky at first touch. It is also not quite as pigmented but I actually like that for a setting powder. After playing with the palette I have found that the powder becomes much softer and more manageable after scratching the top layer away. It leaves a much silkier powder that melts into the skin without drying it out.

This could be thanks to Tarte's Rainforest Of The Sea Complex which provides hydration, environmental defines and a brightening finish thanks to an antioxidant complex of marine algae and flower extracts. Tarte has infused this complex into many of their products including their Lip Splash Lipsticks which I reviewed (and LOVED) here

In the photo below I am wearing Filtered Light as my setting powder under the eyes, Sunlight all over the cheekbone and temple and Moonlight directly on the apple of the cheek, the tear duct, nose and cupids bow.

So as a girl who can't get enough glow and collects highlighters like candy, I can say without a doubt that the Tarte Skin Twinkle Highlighting Palette is an absolute winner! I do wish the setting powder was a bit more on the buttery side but the shimmer shades are absolutely stunning! They give such an incredible, radiant glow to the face and they just melt into the skin.

If you love a good glow or even if you just want to test the waters, I highly recommend the Tarte Skin Twinkle Highlighting Palette

Hey Beauties!

While I love nothing more than getting to explore the world of beauty through my reviews and tutorials, I often feel like I want you guys to know a little bit more about me and not just what mascara i'm currently loving.

I've been getting such lovely feedback and building some really great friendships through my Instagram as well as my more personal blogposts so I want to continue the momentum. I've decided I'm going to round up a few of my favourite Instagram posts every Friday as well as shout out my current Instagram obsessions!

Let me know what you guys think and if you would like to see more posts like this in the future!

An incredibly exciting PR delivery from Smashbox Canada! I was so thrilled to open these babies up as they were a complete surprise! Let's just say I am obsessed!

My home is primarily white with lots of silver and rustic wood accents but it is seriously lacking in colour. I recently fell in love with the first pillow you see above (which is from Michael's Crafts) and now I can't stop adding to my collection of dusty blue grey accessories.

How gorgeous are these rose gold oval makeup brushes from My Makeup Brush Set? I ordered them about two weeks ago and they came super quickly! So far I am loving them, they are very dense, super soft and the handles are nice and strong!

I have been sharing my favourite affordable eyebrow and eyelash products that are available at Shoppers Drug Mart on Instagram. I have been LOVING the L'Oreal Brow Stylist Pencils for a super defined brow and the new Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt mascara for lifted lashes!

Oil Infused Nail Polish - The Next Big Thing | L'Oreal Paris Le Vernis À L'Huile Nail Polishes | Review

Oil Infused Nail Polish - The Next Big Thing | L'Oreal Paris Le Vernis À L'Huile Nail Polishes | Review | labellesirene.ca

Hey Beauties!

L'Oreal has long been one of my absolute favourite affordable brands. They consistently release new innovative products in every aspect of beauty from their makeup and skincare to their haircare and of course their nail polishes.

Their classic Colour Riche nail polishes come in an incredibly vast range of shades and finishes and they are always up to date with the latest trends in colour theory and pattern. Now L'Oreal is taking it one step further with a brand new collection that has over 10 years of research under it's belt.

The new Le Vernis À L'Huile collection is the first of it's kind in what will probably be the next big hit in nails - oil based polish. L'Oreal spent a decade developing their exclusive oil-in-colour technology that infuses beautiful rich polishes with various oils (such as Rose & Argan) for stronger, bolder and shinier nails.

Packaging & The Brush

The Le Vernis À L'Huile collection is absolutely breathtaking. The polishes come in stunning crystallized glass bottles with a metallic gold cap. They not only look luxurious and expensive but they feel heavy and sturdy much like their high end counterparts. The design is simple and minimalistic but is also very sophisticated.

Each polish comes equipped with a pretty incredible brush, one that might be the best brush I've ever used. The signature Flexor brush is a flexible wand with three defined sections (much like the design on the bottle) that help to slow gravity so when polish flows down the brush it is slowed down giving you greater control during application. This prevents too much polish being applied at once as well as dripping, streaking and overall mess.

The brush features 440 individual hairs that combine to create a thick, wide paddle shape with a rounded tip. The shape of the brush and the specially designed wand help to apply the ideal amount of polish and disperse it evenly over the surface of the nail.

Formula & Shade Range

The Le Vernis À L'Huile polishes combine colour and care with their unique formula that offers rich, bold pigmentation and a forgiving finish that is durable and won't stain your nails.

The infusion of Rose, Lotus Bloom, Camelia & Argan oils help the polishes apply & layer beautifully with no drag for a fast, flawless finish. They all possess deep, vibrant colour saturation that applies almost fully opaque in just one coat and dries with a serious amount of shine. They also have a really lovely subtle rose scent that appears as they dry and after.

The line features 25 different shades (including a top coat) that vary from beautiful nudes and pinks to rich reds and purples with a few unique showstoppers thrown in. This line has just about every shade you could possibly imagine with all of classic staples and the newest trendsetters as well.

All of the shades have fun, cheeky French names and are separated into colour families.

(L-R 444 Orange Triomphe, 550 Rouge Sauvage, 554 Carmin Parisien, 660 L'Or, 662 Moka Chic, 666 Vert Absynthe)

L'Oreal's Le Vernis À L'Huile nail polishes are truly a thing of beauty. From the bottle and the brush to the formula they are really incredible. They provide really bold, opaque coverage in a swipe or two and the brush really helps to make application a breeze. The finished product has an intense shine and a strength that can't be beat.

I could not recommend them more. The L'Oreal Le Vernis À L'Huile polishes retail for $9.99 CAD and are available at Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall, Ulta and more.

Wedding Wednesday | Time To Celebrate | Our Engagement Party

Hey Beauties!

Happy Wednesday! It's been a little while since we talked last and now I can share why! I have been so insanely busy over the last month planning my engagement party with my mom and my maid of honour.

While Shayne and I have been together for 6 years and our families have heard absolutely everything about each other they had never actually met before this past weekend. It was so important to us that we remedied that as quickly as possible with our two families becoming one and all of the exciting wedding activities coming up.

We threw a little get together for our immediate family and our closest friends and of course I wanted to share it with you!

It was so much fun to celebrate this massive change in our lives with all of the people that mean the most to us. We had some great conversation, my mom made some pretty incredible food, we played a few fun games and even received a few incredible gifts.

Hope you enjoyed this little peak into our engagement party!

A massive thank you to my mom, stepdad and my girls for helping me and to everyone else for coming!

Wedding Wednesday | Our Engagement Photos | The Beginning Of Our Next Chapter

Wedding Wednesday | Our Engagement Photos | The Beginning Of Our Next Chapter | labellesirene.ca

Hey Beauties!

I am so incredibly excited to share my engagement photos with you! I have been waiting anxiously for these to come in and I could not be more in love with them! I feel like they truly capture the love that Shayne and I have for each other. I also love that our personalities are shining through the photos and you can see how happy we are together.

It was a beautiful sunny day and Shayne and I met up with my lovely friend and cousin Caroline of Caroline Elizabeth Photography. We decided to shoot at two of our favourite places in the city, starting with Dundurn Castle, a beautiful stately home from the 1800's that has been my version of Cinderella's Castle since I was a child.

Then we headed over over to one of our favourite coffee shops called Mulberry. We wanted to shoot at a coffee shop because we have spent so much of our relationship just sitting and chatting over a latte. Our second date was spent sitting at a Starbucks just chatting for hours.
