Review | The Skindinavia Makeup Primer & Finishing Spray

Hey Beauties!

We've all had those days when we have spent an hour or two perfecting our full face of makeup only to have it slide right off after a few hours of wear. There really is nothing worse than seeing your hard work fade, smudge, melt and straight up fall apart. Am I right?

I was so fed up of looking into the mirror half way through the day and discovering the my foundation was missing from my nose and my bronzer was blotchy from sweat. I decided to take matters into my own hands and went on a quest to find the best makeup setting sprays on the market. I tried out offerings from L'oreal (review here), Urban Decay, NYX, and finally Skindinavia. I liked each and every one of them for their own reasons but nothing won me over quite like the Skindinavia Makeup Primer & Finishing Spray.

Skindinavia is the original authority on setting sprays and since their start in 2005 they have led the way in spray technology. Their original Makeup Finishing Spray is a best seller that has sprouted into a number of variations including Oil Control and Bridal so that every complexion can have the absolute best experience. They have also added a revolutionary Makeup Primer Spray to give you the ultimate power duo that will lock and load your makeup into place for up to 16 hours.

The Makeup Primer Spray

The Makeup Primer Spray is the first step in Skindinavia's routine, this lightweight silicone free spray helps to prep your skin for whatever you choose to put on top of it. It is an ultra fine mist that becomes one with your skin leaving you with a smooth canvas for flawless makeup application. It creates an invisible, breathable barrier between the skin and makeup to prevent it from settling into pores, fine lines and wrinkles. This barrier lets your skin behave as it normally would without disrupting the makeup above, it will prevent oil from seeping through by absorbing it throughout the day and will also keep sweat at bay.

Did you know?

Your skin doesn't have the ability to tell the difference between skincare and makeup, it will absorb whatever you put on it directly. This is why it is so important to do a skincare routine before you apply makeup, the skincare creates a barrier just as the Makeup Primer Spray does.

The Makeup Finishing Spray

The Makeup Finishing Spray is the second step in Skindinavia's routine, while the Primer Spray preps your skin and gives you a smooth canvas, the Finishing Spray locks everything into place. It sets all of your hard work in place and blends all of the products together to create a more flawless and airbrushed appearance. It leaves you with a healthy natural glow that keeps your makeup looking fresh all day long. It features an exclusive Temperature Control Technology that keeps the makeup surface cool to prevent any melting or sliding. Take a peek at the diagrams below to see how this technology works.

My Results

I have been using the Skindinavia system for over 2 months and I put it through every single test I can possibly imagine. I have worn it for up to 20 hours, I have put it through workouts, dance classes, rainy days, tears, fidgety hands and long filming days in front of lights. It has delivered on every single promise it gives, my makeup applies better and lasts longer than it probably should.

It looks just as good at 8pm as it did at 8am and it has prevented any sort of slip, smudge, melt or disintegration that usually happens during my day. It has not allowed heat or sweat to ruin my makeup and it has definitely helped with clogged pores and makeup induced breakouts.

People have commented on how "perfect" my makeup looks and asked me how it stays so fresh and it is all thanks to Skindinavia. I cannot go a day without spraying a healthy dose of both mists onto my skin, they have changed my makeup game and I will recommend them to anyone who needs a bit of help with lasting power.

You can buy Skindinavia from their website and you can purchase each product individually or in "makeup artist kits" that come with both sprays for a discounted price.

The NYX Nation | Exploring NYX's Best Concealers

Hey Beauties!

I have been a massive NYX Cosmetics fan for as long as I can possibly remember. I have been ordering their products from websites like BeautyJoint and having them shipped to Canada for the past couple of years but the time has come when I ( & you!) will no longer have to pay exorbitant shipping fees.

NYX is making the big move up north and with their website launch and grand opening of their first ever retail store (in Toronto!) coming up in the next couple of weeks, I thought I would put together a few posts on my favourite NYX products to celebrate.

First up, I want to talk all about my favourite NYX concealers, I am a big fan of NYX's face  products and their concealers have been a staple in my makeup collection for the longest time. You might even remember my review of the HD Photogenic Concealer way back in June 2014 and if you do high five for being amazing!

NYX has an amazing range of concealing products with at least one for just about every possible concealing need from correcting and camouflaging to contouring and highlighting. Every product comes with an impressive shade range that without a doubt has an option for every skin tone. Quite a few even come in the key colour correcting shades (green, orange, yellow and purple) and that is not something you ever see in mainstream makeup. NYX seems to know how to perfectly bridge the gap between casual everyday cosmetics and the world of artists and costume makeup.

My three absolute favourite concealers from NYX all serve a different purpose in my routine but at least one of them gets used every single day.

The Above & Beyond Full Coverage Concealer retails for $6.99 and is a heavy duty full coverage concealer designed to battle blemishes, dark circles, bruises and anything else that you need to banish. This thick cream concealer comes in 11 shades including a green (for covering redness), a yellow (for brightening dull skin), an orange (for dark spots) and a purple (for sallow skin or yellow bruises).

Each little pot contains a rich creamy concealer that is absolutely packed with pigment, a tiny little bit will cover more than you need to so a full pot will last you for ages and ages. Despite it's thick consistency, this full coverage cream blends out beautifully and feels incredibly lightweight on the skin. It layers nicely with no bunching or issues with transfer as long as each layer is blended first. It also has no issues with creasing if set with powder. Once set, it is practically budge proof and will stay proof for 8 hours.

Tip - I personally love to use the Flawless Concealer Brush from E.L.F. to apply and blend out this concealer. If you have dry skin, warm up this product on the back of your hand before applying it.

The Dark Circle Concealer retails for $7.99 and is another gorgeous cream based concealer but this one is solely intended for covering up those pesky dark circles under our eyes. It comes in 4 shades (fair, light, medium and deep) and each shade contains a concentrated mixture of both orange and skin tone pigments to ensure the most natural coverage. It is formulated with coconut oil to deliver the right amount of hydration that will make sure creasing will never occur.

The Dark Circle Concealer has almost an identical formula to the last concealer, it is thick and creamy but incredibly easy to apply, blend and wear throughout the day. It has buildable full coverage and when set with a powder, it will last all day long.

Tip - Choose the shade of this concealer based on the severity of your dark circles, I personally float between light and medium.

The HD Photogenic Conceal Wand retails for $6.99 and is one of NYX's best selling products for good reason. It comes in 11 shades including the same colour correcting shades as the first concealer. It is a thin, lightweight concealer that comes in a plastic tube with a classic doe foot applicator - perfect for applying straight to the face and under the eyes. It offers medium coverage with the ability to layer and build upon the opacity.

This creamy liquid concealer is non-comedogenic, talc free and paraben free and the "HD" factor means it will look amazing on camera with no flashback. It dries to a semi-matte finish and when set with a powder will last at least 7 hours.

Tip - This concealer is slightly dry so make sure to apply a good eye cream before you do your makeup. It will glide on and look gorgeous on hydrated eyes.

{ L-R Dark Circle in Medium, Above & Beyond in Green & Porcelain, HD in Porcelain}

As you can see NYX has a concealer for every possible need and concealer junkies like me have a million options to play with. All three of these concealers are absolute gems that I would miss dearly if they were not in my collection. NYX offers you incredible quality products at an amazing price point that really can't be beat no matter what your needs are. I currently carry both the Dark Circle Concealer and the Above & Beyond Concealer in multiple shades in my professional kit because they are just that good.

If you are looking for a new concealer or just want to explore what NYX has to offer, I highly suggest you check out these products. Also, make sure to check out NYX's new website for updates on the Canadian launch and keep your eyes peeled for displays popping up at your local Rexall, London Drugs or Jean Coutu.

Review | Benefit Cosmetics' It's Potent Eye Cream

Hey Beauties!

If you've been following my blog for awhile you will probably know that I have not always been very good at maintaining a solid skincare routine. I am constantly trying new products, experimenting with combinations and searching for the best of the best. I have not yet discovered all of the products that would belong in my holy grail skincare routine but I have found a few select products that I know I will never be able to part with. Of the very few products that have earned themselves permanent spots in my bathroom cabinet, Benefit Cosmetics' It's Potent Eye Cream holds the number one spot.

The Basics

Benefit Cosmetics' It's Potent Eye Cream is part of their b.right radiant skincare range, a collection of skincare solutions designed to hydrate, cleanse and treat for a radiantly refreshed, lit from within appearance.

It's Potent is a brightening eye cream intended to battle dark circles and banish under-eye bags all while hydrating and smoothing fine lines. It's Potent contains a peptide complex known to help restore elasticity and firmness in our delicate under-eyes. It features a blend of hydrating botanical extracts including apple to boost collagen and loquat extract to help protect skin from free radical damage.

Just like the rest of the b.right range, It's Potent comes in absolutely stunning packaging that is obviously inspired by apothecaries and vintage skincare. It comes in a luxurious glass jar with a faux cork lid that screws on tightly to keep the cream fresh. It's Potent is one product that you will want to leave out on your bathroom counter for everyone to see.

Did You Know?

Benefit Cosmetics is taking charge of the skincare game with their mission to protect skin from all of the unfriendly chemicals and pollutants in our air, they recently launched the Air Patrol eye primer that does just that and it is another holy grail of mine. Check out the review if you haven't seen it!

The Good Stuff

It's Potent is a bit of a wonder product, at first it feels and looks like a thick, rich cream but the second it touches your skin it melts right in. You only need the tiniest bit to cover your entire eye, it will sink deep down in mere moments and the ultra hydrating cream will feel like a refreshing drink of water for your eyes.

You can feel it going to work straight away and while you will feel that cooling sensation for a moment you won't feel a thing left on the surface of your skin. The lightweight cream becomes invisible to sight and touch. You won't feel any stickiness or moisture or see any left over shine.

The Results

I have been using It's Potent for around 4 months and I have seen a massive change in my skin. I have always had very dry eyes to the point that the skin around my eyes started to develop Psoriasis. I became embarrassed and self conscious and I stopped wearing eye makeup. I tried cream after cream for at least a year and nothing even made a dent until It's Potent. Within a week, the Psoriasis was gone and my eyes were finally smooth, soft and happy.

It's Potent has made my eyes bright and they shine no matter how tired I am. Dark circles are a thing of the past and so is creasing concealer. I have used It's Potent twice a day ever since and for once I can confidently rock a bold smokey eye or show off my bare eyes. My makeup applies so much better and my eyes no longer get irritated or red.

I have recommended It's Potent to many friends and those who tried it have nothing but amazing things to say. I really think that Benefit Cosmetics hit the jackpot and created the ultimate eye cream that everyone needs in their life.

It's Potent truly is a potent little jar of magic and it has saved my eyes.

Benefit Cosmetics' It's Potent Eye Cream retails for $44 and is available at Sephora and all Benefit counters or stores.

New In | Maybelline Brow Satin Define & Fill Duo

Hey Beauties!

If someone were to tell me I was about to lose every single piece of makeup I own except for two choice items and that I would never be allowed to buy anything but those two items ever again, I know without a doubt that those items would be mascara and some sort of eyebrow pencil.

I have become so obsessed with the massive impact those two products can have on a face, anyone can completely change up their face with a couple quick coats of mascara and a bit of brow definition. They outline the face and bring attention to the eyes making you look wide awake and completely put together. On the day to day I am completely content to leave the house with just those two things and maybe a little bit of concealer. The problem is my eyebrows take me a good twenty minutes to put on and perfect.

I have been on the hunt for a more convenient product that takes less time but doesn't disappoint on lasting power and colour matching. I recently picked up the newish Brow Satin Duo from Maybelline and I have been testing it out. I filmed myself trying it for the very first time and shared my immediate impressions but I thought I should give you a more in-depth review now that I have had some more time.

The Details

The Maybelline Brow Satin Define & Fill Duo is a completely unique product that combines a brow pencil and a brow powder into one convenient double ended tube.

The first end of the pencil is a thin (0.2mm) wax pencil with a rounded shape and flat cut top, it is fully retractable and can go both up and down. The other end of the pencil is a spring loaded sponge tip applicator with powder held in the twist-on cap. Every time you twist the cap on the sponge is filled with powder that you can then apply to your brows.

The Formula

The pencil has a really fantastic texture, it's waxy but soft enough that it glides onto the skin smoothly. The pencil immediately adheres to the skin so you can cover your entire brow in a few seconds, it sticks to the skin so well that it will give you the appearance of full brows even in super sparse areas. The tip of the pencil is flat but quickly becomes a round nub so it is not the best for creating a super precise and sharp line. If you take your time you can get a clean outline and a few swipes with a q-tip will erase any mistakes. It is incredibly pigmented so you will get full intense brows in a few swipes, just use light strokes and keep a spoolie on hand to brush your brows out every once in awhile.

The powder has a soft matte finish that gives a gorgeous airbrushed look to your brows. The sponge tip applicator tends to hold a lot of product so tap off the pencil inside the cap and then apply in small strokes. The powder smooths right over the pencil adhering to the skin as well as the hairs themselves adding another layer of dimension. You can quickly create a much fuller looking brow or simply smooth over the hairs for a clean, crisp look.

Layered on top of the pencil, the powder gives your brows a light feathery textured appearance that you just can't beat. The combination is killer and leaves you with picture perfect eyebrows. Keep in mind that without any sort of brow gel, the combo will last a good 6 hours before starting to fade so I do recommend setting your brows.

Overall I have nothing but good things to say about the new Maybelline Brow Satin Define & Fill Duo, I have used it 5 times and have never been disappointed. It is the perfect product for full defined brows in just a few seconds and the perfect product for those days when I don't have twenty minutes to carve out my brows. If you are a get up and go kind of girl or you are looking for a new day to day brow product I highly suggest you check it out!

Also make sure to check out the video below for all the details and a more thorough look at how the product applies.

The Maybelline Brow Satin Define & Fill Duo retails for $11.99 and is available at your local drugstore.

Review | GOSH Velvet Touch Matt Lipsticks

Hey Beauties!

I've been an avid blog reader since my early teens so I have come across a number of products that are infamous through the beauty blogging community. One of those products was GOSH's Velvet Touch Lipstick in the shade Darling, a nudey pink that everyone and everyone they knew (especially in the UK) claimed was the perfect nude lipstick. It's a few years on and I still haven't managed to get my hands on that classic GOSH lipstick but I did get the chance to try the new extension to the Velvet Touch Line!

The GOSH Velvet Touch Matt Lipstick Collection features 8 shades that range from a true nude (think Myth from MAC) to a bold plum and everything in between. They come in beautiful sleek black packaging that is chic and understated - my favourite kind. They have no smell and no real taste.

The lipsticks are meant to be the "matte" counterpart to the original Velvet Touch line but these are a very interesting form of matte. They appear to have a cream formula that has a slight sheen to it so they are almost semi-matte instead of a true matte. They give a matte appearance but they don't make your lips look dry or chapped like most true mattes would. They are nicely pigmented but do need to be built up for full opacity, one or two swipes will leave you with a nice soft flush of colour but three or four will give you a bold statement.

That first swipe can feel quite dry and will drag a little bit but once you get the lipstick warmed up it will glide on smoothly. That dry texture does not translate into the feeling of the lipstick at all, because they are not a true blue matte they feel surprisingly comfortable on and are not at all drying. This could be due to the inclusion of natural waxes and hyaluronic acid that help keep lips hydrated and plump.

{L-R Classic Red & Raspberry}

Their creamy matte formula means they will smudge and transfer throughout the day but they are not too creamy that their lasting power suffers. They will last you a good 5 hours before you need to reapply.

The GOSH Velvet Touch Matt Lipsticks are overall a really nice lipstick, it has a great formula and the colours are beautiful. I would love to check out what the other shades look like in person and if you are a lipstick lover you should definitely check them out.

The Gosh Velvet Touch Matt Lipsticks are available at your local Shoppers Drug Mart.

Style Saturday | Savouring The Last Days Of Summer

Hey Beauties!

Summer is coming to an end and I really couldn't be more excited for Fall but I am making the most of these last few warm and sunny days. This little white shift dress from Forever 21 is the perfect piece to savour the last few summer days. It's super lightweight and flowy and so easy to wear but looks so put together. Of course I had to pair it with some of my favourite taupe accessories because I can't get enough of taupe and olive for the upcoming season.

A Necessity In Any Collection - The MicroPedi | Giveaway

Hey Beauties!

I don't know about you but nothing makes me feel more un-puttogether and frankly gross than unpolished toes and dry cracked feet. Even if no one will see them, I need my feet to look their absolute best for me to feel confident. For as long as I can remember I have used pumice stones, foot brushes and intense moisturizers to keep my feet in check but everything has changed now that the Emjoi MicroPedi has entered my life.

The MicroPedi is everything I have ever dreamed of and more for my perpetually dry and calloused feet. It's a pedicure in a magical little tool that requires hardly any effort and you don't even have to leave the house. It's so incredibly user friendly that even the men in your life will want to use it - my boyfriend does!

The MicroPedi is a relatively simple device but it works absolute wonders. It is essentially a battery operated roller that spins at an incredible 30 times per second to buff away any dry skin, bumps, calluses or whatever you have living on your feet. The rollers that come with the device are created from micro minerals just like pumice stones but they are so much more effective when they are hitting your feet at such a rapid pace. The MicroPedi saves you from sore arms, aching hands and basically takes all of the work out of having great feet.

The MicroPedi retails for $49.99 and comes with the actual device as well as two rollers. The light pink roller is the coarse roller intended for light exfoliation while the purple roller is extra-coarse for dealing with those stubborn dry patches. They also make a super-coarse roller for the worst calluses and bunions. MicroPedi sells additional rollers individually so you don't ever have to purchase the entire unit again.

The MicroPedi is also incredibly easy to use, all you need to do is put two AA batteries inside, slide the roller of your choice into place and press the on button. Gently roll the MicroPedi back and forth over your skin making sure not to press too hard - just glide. Move continuously from spot to spot on your foot in 2-3 seconds increments for no more than 5 minutes total. Afterwards you will be left with the softest, smoothest and sexiest feet of your life.

Keep in mind that since the Micropedi buffs away the skin, that skin will turn into a white dust which then falls off so it is best to use the system in a tub or over a towel.

Now onto the giveaway! I am so excited because I have paired up with MicroPedi to give away one full unit! You will win the device and the two base rollers! Fill out the rafflecopter below and make sure to visit my Instagram for even more ways to win!

A Night Out At The Supercrawl Fashion Zone

Hey Beauties!

This past weekend was host to Hamilton's annual Supercrawl - a weekend that we Hamiltonians look forward to every year. For one weekend, the busiest streets in Hamilton are closed down for one big street festival. Those streets are packed with the most creative people in Hamilton and the surrounding area.

There are live art installations of massive proportions, an electric circus and aerial dancers that fly through the sky. Artists and businesses line the streets selling their handcrafted goods, musical acts both large and small take the streets and the stage to fill the city with music and best of all Hamilton's top designers share their creations through two days of fashion shows.

This year the Supercrawl Fashion Zone was in the hands of two of the most talented men in the city, Paul & Aaron of The Eye of Faith. Just last year I had the chance to interview the duo (see that interview here)  in their amazing store and now they are heading up the most important weekend for fashion in Hamilton.

This year they arranged a weekend full of shows from the best of Hamilton's designers and even debuted their own clothing line in their show titled Hollywood Babylon.

Their show took you straight back in time, from the music and the atmosphere to the attitude the models were exuding. Every single second of the Hollywood Babylon show was like a dream in the most decade we've known. The pieces were luxurious and screamed glamour with a hint of sassiness and fun thrown in. Each outfit was created and styled to perfection and I could see some of the most glamorous ladies of the past rocking every last piece.

The next show I had to check out was the Fall/Winter collection from Volver Designs, entitled Anouk. Volver is one of my absolute favourites brands and the designer Rosa is a beautiful human being with incredible talent. Every piece in her collection is handmade and one of a kind. Rosa pours herself into everything she creates and she never fails to blow me away.

This season she managed to take some of the biggest trends in both summer and fall fashion and take them to a new level. Knit crop tops and big cozy sweaters rocked the runway along with her classic styles of cardigan and hooded capes that won me over last year.

I did a shoot with Volver last year (here) and it is so amazing to see how the line has evolved. I genuinely think that Rosa is one of the most talented people of our time and her pieces should be in everyone's closet.

This year's Supercrawl was an absolute success and Aaron & Paul knocked it out of the park with the Fashion Zone. It has never been better and I sincerely hope they take it up every year to come.

Visit the Eye of Faith's Collection in Vintage Soul Geek at 279 King St East in Hamilton Ontario to take your own step back in time.
