Style Saturday | Working With Key Pieces

Hey Beauties!

I am a firm believer in wearing what makes you feel good and sticking to your guns when it comes to trends and having a set style. I am human, there are days when I want to rock that bright red lip and matching midi skirt and there are days when I don't want to leave my yoga pants and cozy sweaters. It is so important to follow your heart and dress for you - and only you - and don't be afraid to play with different styles or fall back on what you know works.
While I tend to be a fan of more feminine and flirty outfits, sometimes I like to change things up and create simple outfits from key pieces in my wardrobe. This particular outfit is a mixture of classic pieces that I have on hand at all times - a white lace top, a leather jacket, a black legging and leopard flats. These are all items that can be worn a number of different ways and will never really go out of style. When I am feeling less than creative and looking for comfort in a simple outfit these are the pieces that I reach for.

Nude Nails for Winter

Hey Beauties!

I tend to be a creature of habit, once I find something I really love - like a particular nail polish - I will wear it over and over again until I just can't bear to see it one more time. For the past three or four years I have been stuck in a rut of wearing only red nail polish for the majority of the winter. For some reason, I associate red with colder weather and as a result I have a million and one shades of red and I was getting a bit bored. This year I decided to change it up a little bit and I have experimented with plenty of colours and finishes but the one shade I have really enjoyed wearing is nude!

Nude nails are so incredibly versatile because you can stick with a simple polish for a chic effortless look or add a fun accent nail for some interest. There are endless options for you to show off your creativity and they create a really great base for showcasing statement rings! I have collected quite a few but my three favourite polishes for a nude nail are:

Essie's Urban Jungle - a light creamy nude with a hint of cool grey!

Essie's Comfy in Cashmere* - a gorgeous taupey mauve with subtle shimmer from the new Cashmere Matte collection.

Nails Inc Gel Effect Polish in Porchester Square - a middle toned grey with a bit of purple in the base.

What nail polishes have you been wearing this winter?

Style Watch | The SAG Awards Top 5

Hey Beauties!

Awards season is in full swing and a few select stars are marking their place as fashion royalty in Hollywood. I didn't have the chance to watch the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards but I made sure to follow the red carpet on social media and I found a few favourites. In the midst of so much glamour and a sea of prom-like dresses, it's incredibly easy to get lost in the mix but these 5 leading ladies have proven that they know how to shake things up.

Sarah Hyland

Sarah Hyland is one of my absolute favourite Hollywood starlets, not only is she hilarious in Modern Family but she never disappoints in the fashion department. Hyland has consistently pushed the limits and delivered inspired outfits that range from sophisticated and chic to full on edgy. Hyland rocked a stunning custom Vera Wang gown with heavy embellishment and a sleek silhouette under a chiffon skirt. She looks so chic and confident and I love that she is showing her personality through the coloured embellishments and statement earrings.

Emma Stone

Emma Stone can do no wrong! She hits it out of the park at each and every event and she is always at the top of most Best Dressed lists. Emma killed it in a custom Christian Dior gown that brought inspiration from her recent stint on Broadway in Chicago. The long tuxedo jacket over the sheer chiffon skirt and train is simply stunning. I love that she always make a point in wearing something out of the box and adds some glamour with a statement lip.

Rosamund Pike

Can you say stunning? Rosamund Pike is naturally gorgeous and so incredibly talented and she may just be the only person who can pull off a mullet dress. Typically, I can't stand these mullet dresses but her Christian Dior gown is a show stopper. I love the high neckline and the texture of each individual flower and I love that she put the focus on the dress and kept everything else simple. She also looks amazing with a "lob".

Joanne Froggatt

I am a big Downton Abbey fan and Joanne Froggatt plays ones of my favourite characters but off screen she has amazing style. She keeps it simple and classic but she always has a little something special or unique that completely changes the dress. I love that this navy blue Honor gown has such an elegant silhouette but then the modern neckline makes a big statement.

Lupita Nyong'o

This outfit is so incredibly perfect. Lupita has been best dressed at every event she has attended over the last two years and I can see why, she can do no wrong! She seems to love  a statement gown, something unique and full of colour. She is definitely not afraid to show her personality and I admire that greatly. I have no words to describe how much I love this Ellie Saab stunner, everything about it is perfect, as is her hair and makeup.

Did you watch the SAG Awards or catch any of the fashionable gowns? Who made your best dressed list?

The Winter Lip Care Routine | For Chapped & Sore Lips

Hey Beauties!

Let's be honest, the cold winds and icy temperatures of winter weather are less than kind to our skin and sometimes we get caught up in keeping our bodies warm and forget to protect our face leaving us with red cheeks and chapped lips. This particular winter has really taken a toll on my lips so I did a little bit of research and started a lip care routine, after following it for a month I have seen such a big difference that I had to share it.

What you need

- a sugar scrub
- an intense nighttime balm
- a daily balm
- an oil or lip serum
- a toothbrush
- a muslin cloth

Step 1 - Exfoliation

The skin on your lips is incredibly thin and sensitive but it is also very tough. The top layer becomes so hard and chapped that a lip balm cannot penetrate through it so you need to buff away all of that hard, dead skin to make way for new healthy lips to shine. Once a week, use a sugar scrub - I love this one from Perk Naturals - apply the sugar to closed lips with your head tilted back and use a muslin cloth to scrub in circular motions. This will help to get deep down past that top layer. If your lips are really bad do this for a couple nights in a row to start fresh. The key is to maintain that fresh skin, so every evening when you brush your teeth take a second to scrub your lips with your toothbrush!

Step 2 - Deep Hydration

Lip balms are amazing little things that are a necessity in keeping those lips moisturized but have you ever noticed that the moisture doesn't seem to last for long? That is because lip balms are designed to protect your lips from becoming chapped but if they are already chapped there isn't much they can do. That is where an oil comes into play! Whereas balms sit on top of the skin, oils sink in and get deep down to deliver ultimate hydration. Lip oils are relatively new to the market and can be quite expensive so keep it simple and use a face oil - this is my favourite - or even coconut oil. Apply the oil after your weekly scrub and twice more throughout the week and your lips will soon be like new!

Step 3 - Maintenance

You can scrub your lips and apply oils all you want but if you don't keep it up your lips will snap right back to being chapped. On the nights that you don't use an oil, apply a thick layer of a heavy duty balm - like this one - and let it absorb over night. During the day keep a simple soothing balm - my favourite - on hand to apply when needed but do not over apply because too much lip balm will actually make your lips become drier.

My routine may seem like a lot of work but it only takes a few seconds and it really makes a huge difference. Let me know how you take care of your chapped lips!

The Sunday Post

Hey Beauties!

I hope you had an amazing week! The weather finally warmed up a little bit so I was able to leave my cocoon and venture into the world. Of course the first place I went was Target because my heart just can't handle the idea of not being able to shop there in the future. I went on a little bit of a spree to buy things that had been on my list for the longest time. I didn't see the point in waiting for the liquidation sales because we all know there won't be anything left on the shelves. I'm so happy with everything I bought and so are my cats, they have completely taken over a big fluffy blanket and really I can't blame them because it is the softest thing ever! I have been cuddled up in that blanket everyday since and drinking coffee from my new favourite donut mug.

How was your week? Have you hit up Target yet?

Style Saturday | Pleather & Plaid

Hey Beauties!

On my journey of self acceptance I am constantly trying to venture outside of my fashion comfort zone and experiment with styles and pieces I wouldn't otherwise wear. I have tried outfits that have made me feel beautiful and of course I have tried a few that just weren't right but along the way I have learnt to better accept and understand my body. I am a curvy girl, I have hips and a butt and I have never been comfortable in pants and jeans - anything with structure - that made me feel confined because lets be honest most pants are not made with a booty in mind. I am slowly learning to be okay with showing off my assets and these "leather" leggings are a big step in that direction. There is nothing quite like a leather pant and I have had my eyes on a pair for the longest time but I knew if I wanted to take part in the trend I needed to find a pair that were more suited to a fuller figure. These leggings from Suzy Shier were the perfect solution, they have the look of leather without the difficult fit of a pant. I am really happy that I found the right pair for me it helps to remind me that I can make anything work if I stick to it.

Maybelline Colour Sensational Creamy Matte Lipsticks

Hey Beauties!

Without a doubt 2014 was the year of matte lips, each and every luxury brand released new and improved formulas to entice the beauty lovers and social media followers who knew that matte was the way to go. The trend slowly trickled down to the drugstore through brands like NYX and Wet n Wild but in reality options were sorely limited and the formulas were just not up to par - until now. Maybelline has once again come in to save the day with the Colour Sensational Creamy Matte Lipsticks.

Maybelline has completely revolutionized the world of matte lipsticks with their new line of 8 stunning shades that range from a classic nude to a bright, bold red. Matte lipsticks, while gorgeous are notorious for being dry, uncomfortable and stiff but Maybelline has taken all of those problems and turned them around with their new wearable formula complete with a soft, buttery texture that transforms into the perfect velvety matte lip.

Each lipstick is created with a base of pure pigments for intense colour and three precious oils that help them to glide smoothly across the lips without tugging or patchiness. Those pigments mean that every shade is opaque in one swipe and will become even bolder and more saturated when built up in thin layers. With such bright pigmentation and creamy formula I expected some issues with bleeding but while there is a tiny amount of transfer the colour seems to stay where you put it. The absolute best bit about these lipsticks is how they wear throughout the day, a typical matte lipstick will draw out every last bit of moisture from my lips leaving them feeling tight and dry but not with these! While they are not moisturizing they are really quite comfortable as they sit lightly on the lips without any tightening or cracking. They actually last a good 5-6 hours at complete intensity - through drinking tea and eating lunch - before fading evenly so you don't get that dreaded ring around the outside of your lips.

Maybelline has once again knocked it out of the park with possibly the best matte lipstick on the market - both drugstore and high end - and I have not used any other matte lipstick since I bought these. They are so incredibly creamy and light weight without any of that messy transfer and painful dryness, all in all the perfect lipstick. Of the three shades I own, Touch of Spice (a spicy brown based nude), Lust to Blush (a rosy pink), and Siren in Scarlet (a bold cherry red), they are all equal in application and longevity so I can't wait to add more to my collection.

The Maybelline Colour Sensational Creamy Matte lipsticks retail for $10.99 and are now part of the permanent Maybelline collection so you can find them at your local drugstore.

What lipstick formula is your favourite? Do you like a matte lip?

Interior Inspiration | The Living Room

 source

Hey Beauties!

I'm currently right in the middle of redecorating my living room and it has been such a long and confusing process that I thought I would chat about it with you. For as long as I can remember, I have loved home decor and interior design, I really love expressing myself through the space I live in and having a clean, organized and well designed space has a huge impact on my mood. It's really strange but I truly feel less anxious and more motivated in a beautiful space I can call my own. It is so important that I feel comfortable in my home since between blogging and having a chronic illness I spend all of my time inside.

I live in a converted mansion from 1910 and my living room is massive with high ceilings and an open feel so it can be quite difficult to decorate. I can't paint so I am stuck with yellowy-beige walls but I have a gorgeous wood fireplace, original floors and trimming all around the room. It has a very vintage feel and I like to play with that by using mismatched furniture and thrifted pieces that give a cozy, lived in but chic atmosphere. I try to stick to neutral colours like white and grey so that I can inject subtle colour - gold, silver, pale pink - with accessories. I also really like texture and mixing different ones to make it feel like a warm space to cuddle up and read a book.

Overtime I have collected accessories and little bits and slowly used them to design the space I really want but now I am taking advantage of Target closing in Canada and I am going to pick up some things to help tie everything together. I will keep you guys updated on my progress but for now you can find me on Pinterest looking for inspiration.

How do you decorate your space?

New In | L'oreal Collection Privee Lipsticks

Hey Beauties!

Over the holidays I picked up two of the limited edition L'oreal Paris Collection Exclusive Pure Red Lipsticks and I fell a little bit in love. After reaching for those lipsticks over and over again, I thought I would finally try out the original Collection Privee Nude Lipsticks that started the whole craze.

The Collection Privee Lipsticks were inspired by L'oreal's best selling line of True Match foundation, concealer and powder. L'oreal was one of the very first drugstore brands to recognize the need for a greater shade range at an affordable price and over the years their line has expanded to include the most variations of undertone and colour combinations available. L'oreal realized how massively successful their True Match line was and decided to release a line of nude lipsticks inspired by 6 of their spokeswomen including - Julianne Moore, Doutzen Krouse, J-Lo, Eva Longoria, Freida Pinto and Liya Kebede. These 6 lipsticks are designed to flatter and highlight the complexion and preferences of their respective poster girl. They offer the "perfect" nude lip for each of these complexions and the subtle differences between each shade make them suitable for all skintones from very fair to very deep.

Of the 6 lipsticks, I chose the two lightest offerings - Doutzen and Julianne. The lipsticks themselves are absolutely stunning, two beautiful pinky nude tones in gorgeous matte black tubes with gold accents and accompanying signatures. Both lipsticks are on the sheer side with more of a glossy sheen and light wash of colour. Doutzen is a pale, slightly frosty baby pink and Julianne is the perfect everyday "my lips but better" pinky nude. They glide on well with only a little bit of bunching on dry skin and they feel quite nice and subtly hydrating. Lasting power is not the best at 2 -3 hrs but for a lipstick that doesn't require much effort to apply, that's more than satisfactory. Overall, I quite like the Collection Privee lipsticks, they come in a shade for everyone and are the perfect everyday throw on and go lipstick.

The L'oreal Collection Privee Nude Lipsticks retail for $10.99 and are now part of the permanent L'oreal display at your local drugstore.

Style Saturday | Cozy In Camel

Hey Beauties!

I'm currently sitting in bed, bundled up with the heater on full blast dreaming of the late fall days when I was able to get away with an outfit like this and I can only hope we might see them again soon. A ridiculously large part of me dreams of moving to a milder climate so it won't be a necessity to put on three pairs of socks just to go to the grocery store. If I did reside in such a magical place, I would live in this amazing camel coat and plaid blanket scarf. I love that I can throw them on top of a basic outfit and look chic and pulled together with almost no effort. That is the beauty of a good coat with a classic cut and neutral tone, invest - whether that be $100 or $500 - in one and it will be a staple in your wardrobe for years to come.

The Gift of GlamGlow

Hey Beauties!

I just couldn't wait any longer to talk to you about one of my absolute favourite Christmas presents, the GlamGlow Gift Sexy kit that is still available in some stores but GlamGlow also has other kits that are just as exciting! First of all how adorable is the packaging? I am a sucker for anything with bows! The Gift Sexy kit retails for $76 and comes with a trio of GlamGlow's best selling treatment masks - 1 full size and 2 deluxe size. It is an amazing value because the one full size mask retails for $76 on its own so you are essentially getting two masks for free!

Thirstymud Hydrating Treatment - a delicious coconut scented mask that moisturizes, restores, replenishes and calms the skin. It uses a variety of exclusive GlamGlow technologies to boost and lock in moisture and condition the skin. This stuff completely renews your skin to be baby soft and radiant.

Supermud Clearing Treatment - a powerful mud mask that helps to fight breakouts, discolouration, black and white heads, razor bumps and ingrown hair. It draws all of the imperfections out of your skin and leaves you with soft supple skin.

Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment - a less intense 10 minute mud mask that tightens pores and help with surface texture. It works to make skin look more balanced, radiant, brighter and youthful.

I have wanted to try a GlamGlow mask for the longest time and I think the Gift Sexy kit is the perfect way to try the most popular ones. I have tried each of these masks once but I will write full reviews once I have really tested them.

Have you tried anything from GlamGlow?

Style Watch | The Golden Globes 2015

Hey Beauties!

Now, I don't know about you but I have an obnoxious need to see what Hollywood's best and brightest are wearing on a pretty much daily basis. The bookmarks on my laptop are full of links to Just Jared, Perez Hilton, Cosmo and Styleist so that I can get my daily fix of famous fashion. I figure I can't be the only one out there that needs to know what Kim Kardashian wore to get a latte so I have decided to start a series that highlights my favourite outfits, starlets and events in the Hollywood fashion scene. To kick it off with a bang, let's talk about the amazing gowns that graced the red carpet of this year's Golden Globe Awards.

The night was full of glitz and glamour, there was plenty of sparkle and lots of slinky silhouettes with a sprinkle of bold colour to spice it up. Overall the ladies of Tinsel Town were completely killing it with their classic elegance and flirty embellishments. I have a few favourites to share with you, including my favourite couples of the night.

1. Allison Williams in Armani | Jessica Chastain in Versace | Heidi Klum in Sakura

2. Dakota Johnson in Chanel | Reese Witherspoon in Calvin Klein | Emma Stone in Lanvin | Julianne Moore in Givenchy

3. Anna Kendrick in Monique Lhuillier | Joanne Froggatt in Marchesa | Amy Adams in Versace | Lupita Nyong'o in Giambattista Valli

4- Chrissy Teagen in Zuhair Murad | Sienna Miller in Miu Miu | Greer Grammer in Lorena Sarbu | Louise Roe in Jenny Packham

Jamie Dornan & Amelia Warner | Channing Tatum & Jenna Dewan-Tatum | Joshua Jackson & Diane Kruger

What were you favourite looks at this year's Golden Globes? Do you have a celebrity you would like to see highlighted on Style Watch?

The New Year Nail Rescue

Hey Beauties!

The season of glitter nails has come to an end and as heartbroken as I am to do away with the beautiful gold glitter, my nails are in serious need of a break and I bet yours are too! Those thick glitter nail polishes are one of my favourite bits of the holiday season but they tend to wreak havoc on my naturally brittle nails so they are screaming out for a little TLC. It's time to break out my ultimate pamper routine.

After removing that pesky glitter - I am still trying to find the best method - with pure acetone the surface of my nails ends up a bit bumpy and rough so I pull out my secret weapon and new addiction. The MicroNail* from Emjoi is probably the best thing to ever happen to my little nails, it is essentially an electric nail buffer but this beauty buffs, smooths and polishes all in just a few seconds! The MicroNail gives my nails a shiny and smooth finish that I could never achieve manually and it significantly improves the way my nail polish applies and wears. I like to think of the MicroNail as a primer for my nails because it perfects the nail itself then helps the polish to glide on evenly and best of all makes my polish last a whole lot longer. (Full review coming soon!)

After I have thoroughly buffed and polished my nails I like to apply a hydrating cuticle oil and my current favourite is Julep's Mighty Nail and Cuticle Serum. The Mighty Serum comes in a super handy click pen and is packed with proteins to nourish and strengthen weak nails. One click is enough for both hands and once it has fully dried I wipe off any excess and apply two coats of Essie's Millionails Treatment. The Millionails Treatment is fortified with iron and amino acids and has a fibre shield to help your nails resist peeling and splitting. It makes my nails feel thicker and stronger and they have started growing much faster.

The last step in my routine is to apply a rich hand cream because it is so important to take care of the entire hand and not just the nails. I have learnt that if I have dry skin on my hands that will translate to my nails. My current obsession is the Be Delectable Strawberry & Cream Ultra Nourishing Hand Cream from Cake Beauty. Not only does this hand cream smell incredible but it is made with Shea Butter, Coconut Oil and Aloe Vera so it is packed with hydrating ingredients. After all of this, my nails feel pretty amazing and completely refreshed, this routine has completely changed the state of my nails and I have no doubt it would work for you!

How do you give your nails a little TLC?

The Sunday Post

Hey Beauties!

This past week has been a little bit unusual. While all of November and December was beautiful and had practically perfect weather, the second January came around Mother Nature decided she was going to freeze us all to death. For the past 4 or so days it has been -20 to -30 degrees with really awful wind. I have been hiding inside under a mountain of blankets with plenty of hot coffee and soup and fuzzy slippers! My three cats have been my little space heaters but when they haven't been cuddling with me they have found their own sources of heat like Chloe who loves to sleep on top of the cable box. I really really hope it warms up soon!

How was your week?

Style Saturday | Simplicty

Hey Beauties!

I have a few keys rules that I like to follow when I create an outfit and the number one rule I live by is balance. I think balance is key in pretty much any situation but especially when it comes to fashion. There are so many stunning pieces, bold colours and statement making accessories that it can be hard to ensure you don't go overboard. My personal favourite way to keep everything in perspective is to choose 1 key piece that will be the focus of the outfit and if I decide to add accessories I prefer to keep them simple or have one big statement like an ear cuff or necklace.

This outfit is a perfect example! The lace skirt is a stunner all on its own with its flattering pencil shape and shorter slip so I wanted to pair it with pieces that wouldn't detract from or overwhelm it. I chose a simple grey v-neck shirt and my classic leather jacket. The layers add interest without being too much and of course a red lip will always add a little bit of sparkle to any outfit.
