New In | Maybelline Brow Satin Define & Fill DuoWednesday, September 23, 2015
If someone were to tell me I was about to lose every single piece of makeup I own except for two choice items and that I would never be allowed to buy anything but those two items ever again, I know without a doubt that those items would be mascara and some sort of eyebrow pencil.
I have become so obsessed with the massive impact those two products can have on a face, anyone can completely change up their face with a couple quick coats of mascara and a bit of brow definition. They outline the face and bring attention to the eyes making you look wide awake and completely put together. On the day to day I am completely content to leave the house with just those two things and maybe a little bit of concealer. The problem is my eyebrows take me a good twenty minutes to put on and perfect.
I have been on the hunt for a more convenient product that takes less time but doesn't disappoint on lasting power and colour matching. I recently picked up the newish Brow Satin Duo from Maybelline and I have been testing it out. I filmed myself trying it for the very first time and shared my immediate impressions but I thought I should give you a more in-depth review now that I have had some more time.
The first end of the pencil is a thin (0.2mm) wax pencil with a rounded shape and flat cut top, it is fully retractable and can go both up and down. The other end of the pencil is a spring loaded sponge tip applicator with powder held in the twist-on cap. Every time you twist the cap on the sponge is filled with powder that you can then apply to your brows.
The pencil has a really fantastic texture, it's waxy but soft enough that it glides onto the skin smoothly. The pencil immediately adheres to the skin so you can cover your entire brow in a few seconds, it sticks to the skin so well that it will give you the appearance of full brows even in super sparse areas. The tip of the pencil is flat but quickly becomes a round nub so it is not the best for creating a super precise and sharp line. If you take your time you can get a clean outline and a few swipes with a q-tip will erase any mistakes. It is incredibly pigmented so you will get full intense brows in a few swipes, just use light strokes and keep a spoolie on hand to brush your brows out every once in awhile.
The powder has a soft matte finish that gives a gorgeous airbrushed look to your brows. The sponge tip applicator tends to hold a lot of product so tap off the pencil inside the cap and then apply in small strokes. The powder smooths right over the pencil adhering to the skin as well as the hairs themselves adding another layer of dimension. You can quickly create a much fuller looking brow or simply smooth over the hairs for a clean, crisp look.
Layered on top of the pencil, the powder gives your brows a light feathery textured appearance that you just can't beat. The combination is killer and leaves you with picture perfect eyebrows. Keep in mind that without any sort of brow gel, the combo will last a good 6 hours before starting to fade so I do recommend setting your brows.
Overall I have nothing but good things to say about the new Maybelline Brow Satin Define & Fill Duo, I have used it 5 times and have never been disappointed. It is the perfect product for full defined brows in just a few seconds and the perfect product for those days when I don't have twenty minutes to carve out my brows. If you are a get up and go kind of girl or you are looking for a new day to day brow product I highly suggest you check it out!
