New In | Benefit Cosmetics - Air Patrol BB Cream Eyelid Primer

Hey Beauties!

There are many debates in the makeup world. I'm sure you've heard of the many questions and statements floating around from "is primer really necessary" to the "you can't wear bronzer if you have fair skin". I am a firm believer that no one should listen to these debates and so-called rules and you should figure out what works for you but that doesn't mean I don't have questions myself.

I have always been a bit sceptical around the idea of eyelid primers, I understand and appreciate that they help with creasing and the lasting power of eyeshadows but I also think concealer can do the same thing. I have used a primer on my lids for quite awhile but I never really cared or noticed a massive difference until this new release from Benefit Cosmetics landed on my desk.

The newest recruit to join Benefit's forces against beauty blunders is Air Patrol - a BB Cream Eyelid Primer. Air Patrol takes the typical eye primer to a whole new level with added skin benefits and a specially designed tip to help application be super smooth. It's a multipurpose product with super hero like powers so let's go through all of the amazing things it does.

Defending Eyelids Against Environmental Stress

Air Patrol is completely unique to the world of eyelid primers because it does so much more than simply prime the eyelids for shadow. Air Patrol contains an exclusive EnviroDefend complex that helps to guard your delicate eyelids from all sorts of environmental stress including pollution, UVA/UVB rays, smoke and more. With all of the environmental issues that surround us today like global warming and heavy pollution in our air there is no time like the present to start fighting against these irritants in any way we can so why not in our beauty products?

Has it ever occurred to you that we slather our bodies, faces and lips in SPF on a daily basis but we neglect the most delicate bit of skin without even thinking about it? Before receiving Air Patrol I had never even thought about adding an SPF to my eyelids but it makes total sense! Air Patrol is packed with SPF 20 so it is fighting those damaging rays while making our eyeshadow last all day. To top it all off, it also includes Shea Extract to soothe, calm and relieve dryness in our tired eyelids.

Priming Eyelids for Perfect Eyeshadow Application

Air Patrol has a slight peachy tint to it that helps to colour correct any veins or discolouration on your eyelids as well as brighten the area. I like to apply primer under my lower lash line for any shadow that might be placed there so I love the brightening effect it gives under my eyes. The primer itself is a thin liquid that feels silky smooth and almost slippery to the touch.

The liquid is housed in an adorable click pen and is dispensed through the centre of the exclusive Cushion Calm tip. Inspired by gel foam mattresses and pillows, the Cushion Calm tip is intended to be stress free, pressure free and finger free and is meant to feel lighter and softer than your pinkie. The tip is made from some sort of silicone gel material and is perfectly shaped to glide right onto your eyelid and bend to the curves of your eye. It really is incredibly soft and light on your eyes and it blends the product out beautifully but does take a couple tries to get accustomed to.

I have used Air Patrol 4 times so far and each time my eyeshadow stayed in place with no creasing or fading for about 10 hours. It proved that no matter what I threw at it from intense smokey eyes to winged liner and watery eyes it was not going to let my hard work come off until I wanted it to. As an eyelid primer sceptic, it completely lived up to my expectations for prolonging wear time as well as preventing creasing but it wasn't until I got to testing shadow vibrancy that it really won me over.

One of my favourite ways to test out new eyeshadows as well as primers is to compare a swatch of shadow on bare skin to a swatch on primed skin. Normally I expect to see a small increase in vibrancy and colour payoff but Air Patrol completely blew me away. The photo below shows what happened when I compared my swatches of Makeup Geek's Mermaid eyeshadow, which is already a beautifully pigmented shadow.

Can you say wow? You can imagine how shocked I was to see such a huge difference so I tested shadow after shadow of all different formulas and qualities and every single one was 100% improved by a little bit of Air Patrol underneath.

I don't think it's a surprise for me to say that I can't get enough of this product. It keeps my eyeshadow in place all day long, it adds a few extra skincare benefits, it keeps my easily irritated eyes happy, it has SPF, shadows blend well over it and it completely changes how shadows appear in the very best way.

I am completely head over heels for my new eyeshadow wingman and I hope you will be too. Benefit Cosmetics' Air Patrol BB Cream Eyelid Primer retails for $35 at Sephora and is available now!

  2. That actually sounds like exactly what I need. I currently use a Benefit primer for my eyeshadow and don't see that much of a difference. I really can see the difference on your hand though - it's crazy!

  4. I actually need a new primer and find they always make such a difference. This one looks great, but then again, I've never tried a Benefit product I didn't love!
