My Haircare Essentials & Routine

Hey Beauties!

I have been on a lifelong roller coaster ride with my hair, I have gone back and forth with different lengths, colours and styles. I have had hair down to my waist and an almost pixie cut, I have gone through periods of intense straightening and then over curling  - that I refused to brush out - and I have even had black hair with extensions. It has taken me what seems like ages to figure out what sort of style worked for me and my shyness surrounding my naturally red hair that has been a beacon for attention - both positive and negative - my entire life.

About two years ago I took the plunge and chopped off the majority of my hair leaving me with a longish bob and while I have grown it out a bit during the winters, I have stayed with this style because it seems to suit me so much better than the long waves I had before. Just the other day, I chopped off 4 inches of winter growth and now I am reunited with my trusty lob - that I missed SO much! - and I thought I would share my haircare essentials and routine with you!

First things first, I have really thick, heavy hair that sits somewhere between straight and wavy. Even though it is quite thick, the weight means it is really flat and lifeless and because I have so much hair, it tangles in seconds. I have always been so confused and clueless on how to deal with it that I did nothing but I have been using a few products for the last few months that have really helped me understand that your hair needs some love too.

I am a firm believer that less is more when it comes to washing your hair, I only use shampoo and what not every 3-4 days and I don't use the same products every time. My primary shampoo changes every once in awhile but right now I am using Dove's Oil Therapy line. About twice a month I wash my hair with Neutrogena's T Gel Therapeutic shampoo ($13) to help rinse away any residue and also treat my psoriasis (chronic dry skin). To combat how intense the T Gel can be I like to follow up with the Clear Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy Intense Hydration Treatment Mask. This mask is formulated with cactus extract to provide deep hydration right down to the scalp. I like to leave it on for 15 minutes to let it really soak in and then rinse it out twice to make sure there is no residue. It leaves my hair feeling soft, seriously smooth and really nourished and that feeling lasts for a few days.

The last step I like to use before letting my hair dry naturally is to spray on a little bit of the Sally Hershberger Hyper Hydration Spray Serum($12)*. This is an amazing little multipurpose product, it is a super lightweight leave in conditioner that is infused with keratin and silk extract to help fight frizz, seal split ends, deeply nourish and smooth hair leaving it healthy and shiny but without leaving any trace. As a girl who hates how heavy her hair is naturally, I can promise you that it doesn't add any sort of weight and you can't even feel it to the touch, there is no greasy or waxy residue. It can be used on both wet and dry hair and also acts as a heat protectant so it's perfect for adding a bit of hydration before using any hot tools.

I like to keep my hair as healthy as possible so I tend to keep a relatively simple routine and I spend the majority of my time with my hair au naturel. The only thing that makes it into my daily routine is my trusty Tangle Teezer. As I said, I have ridiculous hair that tangles in seconds and I wake up every single morning with a giant clump of hair at the back of my head. My scalp is also super sensitive and I hate brushing my hair, a couple of years ago I discovered the original Tangle Teezer while on a trip to Manitoba and just about died of excitement, I had heard so much on Youtube about this miracle brush and I couldn't wait to see if it would solve my problems. Well, I'm going to come right out and say it, this thing is magic.

The Tangle Teezer($25) is a small plastic brush that fits in the palm of your hand so you grip the entire thing which helps you have better control. It has multiple layers of flex memory teeth that move and adjust to the different types and textures of hair so it works for everyone. The different teeth help the brush glide through the hair and easily detangle all of the knots and clumps without pulling out or breaking any strands. It is literally painless compared to more standard brushes and it takes me less than half the time than it used to, to brush my hair. It also smooths down frizz and leaves a nice shine. This miracle brush has completely changed how I do my hair and my fear of brushing my hair has disappeared.

While I love the original version, it is a bit of a pain to take out during the day because the bristles would get bent in my handbag but now there is a compact version specifically designed for travel. The compact Tangle Teezer* is a bit smaller than the original and features a super handy click on - click off cover that snaps on to protect the bristles from damage as well as dirt and dust.

Finishing Touches

On the days that I do want to either straighten or curl my hair I use my Sephora Collection Flat Iron and my Sally Hershberger Major Body 3-in-1 Volumizing Spray($12)*. The Major Body spray is like hair perfection in a bottle and I have never loved a hair product as much as this, I literally have two back ups because I think I would break into tears if I ran out of this goodness. The Major Body spray is a volumizing spray, texturizing spray, dry shampoo, and hairspray all wrapped up into one. It takes the best aspects of each product and combines them with the magical powers of caffeine for a serious shot of volume to your hair.

I like to spray this into my roots and throughout my hair after styling and the difference is instantaneous, within seconds my hair is plumped, bouncy and full of life. My normally heavy hair that likes to lay flat and refuses to hold any sort of style is now light as a feather and perfectly poised. The texturizer/dry shampoo soaks up all traces of grease without leaving any residue - it's clear so no white marks - and adds a bit of grit to give your hair some naturally messy texture.

The combination of the texture and hairspray makes curls last for days, even my hair that goes flat within minutes is transformed with this spray. My curls are bouncy and light and they hold their shape until I wash my hair. It does leave a bit of residue so I like to make sure I brush my hair out at the end of the day to prevent any extra tangles. The finished product (see below) is seriously gorgeous hair that I just can't get enough of. I have never loved my hair as much as I do now and it's all thanks to my haircare essentials.

You can find the Clear and Sally Hershberger products at your local Shoppers Drug Mart and the Tangle Teezer is available at Sephora.

The Sunday Post

Hey Beauties!

Happy Sunday! Another week has gone by and we are officially in the Spring season but it is still freezing cold here with below zero temperatures. I have been bundled up in my warm apartment working on upcoming posts and my newest project - redecorating my office!

I have been craving a change in that room for quite awhile because I tend to get bored with the way a room is decorated rather quickly. I knew I wanted to highlight my favourite lipsticks and clean up the excess mess that comes with my collections of lip products and nail polishes. I started by going through my entire makeup collection and editing out the items I just don't use. Once that was done I spent a lot of time organizing everything to be not only functional but visually appealing. Then I worked on decorating my shelves and figuring out what went where. I have a few finishing touches to work on and I am planning on revamping the gallery wall by my vanity. Once everything is done would you like to see a room tour?

How was your week? How do you organize your makeup?

Style Saturday | Lighter Layers For Spring

Hey Beauties!

Spring is one of my favourite seasons for fashion for the beautiful pastels colours and bright whites paired with lightweight sweaters and open toe shoes but let's be honest. Mother nature seems to be a bit confused and it feels more like fall than the typical April sunshine and showers. It seems almost impossible to consider wearing a white lace dress and my favourite blush flats so I've challenged myself to think of new ways to wear my fall/winter wardrobe until temperatures sort themselves out.

I pulled this beautiful camel leather jacket from the back of my closet and paired it with one of my favourite white lace tops to bring a little bit of a fresher feel to a classic fall outfit. The camel tone is a tiny bit more "spring" than the classic black version and the white top brightens the entire look up while I am still cozy and warm with my blanket scarf and black pants.

Jacket - Esprit (old) (similar) | Top - Forever 21 (similar) | Pants - Old Navy | Scarf - Sexton in the City | Shoes - Sirens (similar

How are you working through this weird weather? What are your tips for transitioning into Spring?

New In | Sephora VIB Rouge Birthday Gift with NARS

Hey Beauties!

In my mind and I'm sure in the mind of every other beauty lover, Sephora is the holy land. Going inside is almost like a religious experience, you get lost in the aisles and before you know it 5 hours have gone by. As silly as it is, I like to think of Sephora as a sort of friend, she's always there when you need her, she provides retail therapy, always makes you look beautiful and she gives birthday gifts.

This year Sephora has really stepped up their game with one of the best gift sets yet. They teamed up with NARS to offer two of their best selling lip pencils, one matte (Cruella - a scarlet red) and one satin (Rikugien - a rosy nude). Even better is that for us Rouge members we get a mini version of their amazing Larger Than Life Long Wear Eyeliner in Via Veneto. I've been wanting to try the lip pencils for the longest time so I could not be more excited and I already love the eyeliner so it's great to have a backup.

If you're birthday is coming up, get excited for an awesome gift at Sephora. If you are a VIB or VIB Rouge you can pick up your gift within 2 weeks before and after your birthday!

Vintage Soul Geek

Hey Beauties!

Now that the snow has melted and the temperature has risen - even just a tiny bit - I am venturing outside of my warm apartment to visit some of my favourite stores and explore some of the new ones that have popped up over the last little while. I knew right away what store I wanted to visit first and that was the amazing Vintage Soul Geek.

Vintage Soul Geek is a playground for anyone who has a love for anything vintage, be it fashion, jewellery, home wares or even oddities. Walking in the doors is like stepping back in time and experiencing little flashes of all the best decades gone by. Vintage Soul Geek has actually been in business since 2011 but was originally focused on Etsy and local markets. I first fell upon VSG last summer at the Village Station Bazaar, a little market held on Sundays in my neighbourhood. I actually blogged about that first meeting and you can read about it here. I instantly fell in love with the mass amounts of stunning costume jewellery and eventually went home with a pair of earrings.

Well almost a year later, VSG has opened up their first brick and mortar location! I was so thrilled to learn that VSG was going to be putting down roots in my little neighbourhood where vintage is the way of life. I stopped by as soon as I could - after I beat the never-ending flu - with my trusty vintage loving friend Heather and we spent an incredible hour looking through each little piece of history.

Vintage Soul Geek is owned and operated by the lovely Connie and her charming husband Nick. They have curated an incredible collection of pieces from the late 1800's to the 1990's, all of which have obviously been cared for beautifully as they are all in impeccable shape. They have everything from 50's prom dresses and wedding gowns to shaving kits and an x-ray machine. No matter what your specific passion, VSG has something for every vintage lover. It is also the perfect choice for someone who is just breaking into the world of vintage because it takes the idea of vintage shopping - which can sometimes be hectic and overwhelming - and brings it into a quiet boutique setting where pieces are carefully chosen and displayed purposefully. You can take your time perusing the racks and Nick and Connie are happy to help you find the perfect piece for any occasion.

{beautiful dresses}
{an earring lover's dream}
{finding the perfect pair}
{floral inspiration}
{a touch of glamour}
{the perfect springtime shoe}
{the perfect dancing dress}
{a finishing touch}
{hats and handbags}
{a little bit of Dior}
{a little something for every age}

The store itself is a stunning location with original brick walls, high ceilings and plenty of light. It is quiet but filled with energy from the colourful pieces and happy shoppers. Nick and Connie are incredibly knowledgable about everything they have and are happy to share stories and make suggestions. VSG is somewhere that you can come and spend hours getting lost in the racks and chatting about the years gone by. Heather and I did just that and at the end of our visit, Heather found herself trying on  -and taking home - an awesome wool plaid jacket in VSG's back lounge/changing room.

Vintage Soul Geek is a wonderful addition to the vintage community in Hamilton. They have been a long time staple at markets and events and now they are a permanent fixture that everyone needs to experience.

Vintage Soul Geek is located at 279 King Street East in Hamilton Ontario or you can shop online at their Etsy store.

New In | Maybelline Rebel Bloom Lipsticks

Hey Beauties!

Spring is just around the corner - yay!- and it's time to break out the bright lipsticks to help get you in the spirit. Maybelline is right on trend with their new collection of spring inspired Colour Sensational Rebel Bloom lipsticks. The Rebel Bloom lipsticks offer a daring take on the classic pastel shades that are so popular at this time of year, they take the gorgeous colours we all know and love and have turned them up a notch to deliver pastels that are bright and playful without ever being washed out, dull or pale.

The Rebel Bloom lipsticks come in 8 vibrant floral inspired shades housed in amazing orchid cases that will look stunning on any vanity. The punchy shades are created with the help of Colour Bloom Technology that uses a white base to ensure the brightest, most saturated colour possible. Infused with honey nectar, the lipsticks have a lovely balmy texture that is slightly different than the rest of the Colour Sensational family.

The formula is gorgeously creamy and very comfortable. It is slightly moisturizing so it truly feels like a lip balm but with the punch of a lipstick in a super lightweight hybrid. It is soft and smooth and a little bit slippy - in a good way - so it applies like a dream and doesn't cling or settle. The pigmentation is a little on the sheer side with a sheeny finish making the bold punch of colour a little bit more wearable. The colour can be built up in just a few swipes but never seems to go overboard and it lasts a good 4 hours before fading evenly into a natural sort of stain.

{Hibiscus Pop}
{Rose Rush}

These are the perfect lipsticks to help you dip your toes into the world of springtime beauty and their formula makes them perfect for taking in your handbag for a punch of colour anytime of day. The Rebel Bloom lipsticks really are gorgeous in colour and formula and I think I may add a few more to my collection. They retail for $9.99 and are available online and at your local drugstore.

The Sunday Post

Hey Beauties!

Happy Sunday! It's seems like it's been a lifetime since our last Sunday chat but I am back and I am feeling much better. I want to thank each and every one of you for your love and support while I took a little break. You have no idea how much every word of support meant to me.

This week has been pretty relaxed with lots of laptop time but Friday was really quite exciting. I went with my mom to her first fitting for her wedding dress and it was so exciting to see her in her dream dress. I can't wait to see the finished product when all of the alterations are done! It might sound silly but the most exciting part of the process was actually waiting for her appointment because I had the chance to dig through the racks of the Disney collection by Alfred Angelo! It was so amazing to see the classic princesses brought to life and I may have fallen in love with one of Snow White's

{Snow White's 2014 dress}

We then ended the day at the mall which of course meant a trip to the Disney Store and I could not contain my excitement when I saw that they had the glass slipper from the new Cinderella movie. the mirrored case made it almost impossible to get a good photo but it was so magical in person.

How was your week?

Top Ten Tips For Shopping For Clothes

Hey Beauties!

I don't think there is any doubt that I am a fashion lover with a shopping problem, since I was a little girl I have absolutely adored clothing and I have been expressing myself through my outfits ever since. As much as I enjoy fashion the actual shopping process can be a bit overwhelming. I have gone through a series of shopping phases from absolutely hating the mall and refusing to try anything on to finding peace in between the racks. I understand that shopping is more than what it seems, there are a million emotions and memories associated with it and for some people it is simply a negative experience. So I wanted to share my top ten tips that have helped me get over my issues and embrace shopping for what it should be - fun!

1. Write a list - Preparation is key, before you even step foot into the mall know what you are looking for. Don't go on a whim without a game plan in mind, you will be much more relaxed and prepared for those impulse purchases if you have a clear list in hand.

2. Set a budget - Along with my first tip, it is so important to have a budget in mind. Do your research before hand, look up what the items on your list might cost and set a clear cap that you will not exceed. This will save you from buying things that you don't need or blowing the bank on that pair of shoes that you weren't expecting. You can always come back for them on another day.

3. Pay with cash - You need to be accountable for the money you spend, once you set your budget go to the bank and take it out in cash. That way you will be much less tempted to go outside your budget because you can physically see the money leaving your wallet. You will be amazed how much money you save by carrying cash because you will be conscious of what you are spending. Just leave your cards at home!

4. Try everything on & in more than one size - I spent years refusing to try anything on and the amount of unworn clothes left hanging in my closet because they didn't fit was ridiculous. I am well aware that trying on clothing sucks, it's awful, the bad lighting and unflattering mirrors all make for an unhappy shopper but you will save yourself a lot of hassle if you just try things on. The key to leaving the change room happy is to bring each item in more than one size so that you have more chances of success.

5. Shop at slow times - No one likes to shop in a cramped store with plenty of strangers, it makes you anxious, stressed and frankly unhappy. Do yourself a favour and shop at slow times like early morning or late evening when the traffic is drastically reduced and you can take your time perusing the aisles.

6. Shop alone - On the same lines as the last tip, a shopping trip is most successful when you are stress free. While friends are amazing and they will - hopefully - tell you if you look terrible they can also be a hazard. You are so much more likely to buy something you don't need because your best girl friend says you need it. When you shop alone, you have the space and time to think things through on your own and realize what really matters.

7. Shop when you are in a good mood - A good mood goes a long way when you are shopping. Why enter a possibly stressful situation when maybe you're not having the best day to begin with. It's inevitable that you will go home with empty hands. If you've planned to go to the mall but you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, change your plans!  Wait for another day and give yourself the most chances to succeed.

8. Be realistic - This is key. We have all been shopping with that one outfit in mind when we get thrown off track by a beautiful fancy dress that you are just dying to buy. Take a minute, a deep breath or two and think about it realistically. Do you really need that fancy dress? Do you have a ball coming up in the near future? Is it really worth the money and maybe not getting something else on your list? Asking yourself these questions will save your a whole lot of buyers remorse.

9. Buy in bulk - Only in certain circumstances! Let's say you go to Forever 21 for a plain black camisole that you wear underneath your top every single day. If they have a stack of your size and it fits like a dream then pick up 2 or 3. Basics will never go out of style and you will always need a new one so buy them while you can. This does not apply to that sequined maxi skirt that comes in three colours, you only need one.

10. Don't focus on the number on the tag, but fit - Probably the most important tip in my opinion. I spent years being terrified of the number on the tag and not purchasing something because there was no way I was that size. We all feel this way once in a while, numbers suck but we can't avoid them. The best thing to do is to try on more than one size and focus on FIT. The number means nothing if it fits you like a glove and you feel beautiful. Keep in mind that everything can be tailored, if you need to go up a size to fit your chest but the waist is too big, that can be fixed.

Those are my top ten tips for a successful shopping trip and I hope they help you even just a little bit.

What are you shopping tips? Do you have a secret that helps you while shopping?

Review | The New Brow Routine with L'oreal

Hey Beauties!

The eyebrows are without a doubt one of the most important parts of any beauty routine, they frame your face, help to open up your eyes and add definition to the contours of your head. A good set of brows can make all the difference but it's not as easy as one might think. It took me years to figure out how to find the right shade for my incredibly light blonde hairs and how to shape and fill a set of brows that were practically invisible. I have been using the same products for the last few years and while I loved them, the high end price tag was doing no favours for my wallet. I recently discovered two new products from L'oreal Paris for Spring 2015 that have made my eyebrows and my wallet very happy.

On the outside, the L'oreal Brow Artist Designer Pencil* looks like your classic pencil with a great dense spoolie on one end and a sharpened point on the other. The pencil is colour coordinated to match the shade inside and the gold accents add a touch of glam that you don't normally get with more affordable products. The inside is where the magic truly lies, the pencil itself has a gorgeous formula. It is just creamy enough that it glides over the skin with ease so you don't have any skipping when you try to draw the outlines of your eyebrow but it is also slightly waxy so it adheres itself to your skin and covers each individual hair in a sweep of colour to achieve an even finish. I have always had issues with my brow powder or pencil colouring my skin but not the hairs so I was left with blonde hair against a brown background - not with this pencil! The colour payoff is fantastic and it is easily built up for a more intense effect without ever looking too unnatural. The best bit is once set, it stays in place all day long without smudging or migrating across my forehead. The shade 302 Golden Brown is a gorgeous medium brown with warm undertones that matches my natural red hair perfectly.

To set my brows in place I have been loving L'oreal's new Brow Stylist Plumper Brow Gel Mascara*. Similar to the infamous Benefit Gimme Brow, the Brow Stylist Plumper is a sculpting gel with tiny fibres to help plump and build the eyebrows to make them appear fuller. It comes in a chic tube that is about the size of a mascara and has the perfect sized  conical wand, it is just a tiny bit bigger than the Benefit version but is in no way too big so that you get gel all over the skin around your eyebrows. The formula of the gel itself is really quite nice, it is a thinner gel unlike Benefit's more mousse-like texture so it glides through the hair easily without depositing too much product in one place. It has a little bit of wiggle room before it sets and once it does, it locks your hairs in place but doesn't feel crispy or stiff. It is incredibly lightweight so that you barely feel it on your skin and it lasts all day until you have to physically scrub it off at the end of the day.

Combined, these two new products from L'oreal Paris for Spring 2015 have really surprised me and have become staples in my eyebrow routine. The pencil seems to come under another name - the Colour Riche Le Brow ($9.29) - and comes in two shades. The gel ($12.99) comes in transparent as well as a light/medium shade and a medium/dark shade.

What do you use to do your eyebrows? Are you a pencil, pomade or powder lover?

How To | Bring Spring Into Your Home

Hey Beauties!

It's the middle of March and spring is finally starting to grace us with it's beautiful presence. I am SO over snow and ice and frigid temperatures. I want to put away the heated blankets and the big puffy coats in favour of light layers and open windows.
To help rid me of my winter blues I am trying to inject a little bit of springtime spirit into my home. I'm really happy with how things have turned out so I thought I would share my tips.

1. Spring is the peak time of year for flowers, trees and all other greenery. There is nothing better than seeing little buds popping up through the fresh grass so bring that feeling inside by incorporating flowers and greenery into your decor in any way you can. I try to have at least one arrangement in every room and maybe even more in a larger space. I have 5 different bouquets in my living room alone as well as a large tree. Don't be afraid to experiment with different colours and species just follow your gut and create something beautiful. If you are not up to creating your own arrangement or have little flower eating monsters (aka cats) like me, give fake flowers a try. You can find amazing faux fleurs at Michaels, Homesense, Winners and even Dollarama.

2. Spring is almost like a new beginning for a new year so keep that theory in mind and have a good spring clean. Don't just skim the top of the mess with a vacuum and a bit of dusting, get down and dirty and really clean every crease and crevice. Dust all of your books, polish your silverware, clean your windows and scrub the inside of your fridge. A new clean space will help you feel fresh, bright and ready to take on the day. In the same sort of idea, take the chance to edit your wardrobe, clean out your closets and sort through your makeup collection. Donate items that are still in good condition but you just don't need, throw away those holey jeans and get rid of those CD's from 2003.

3. One of my favourite things about spring is how amazing and fresh everything smells. The freshly cut grass, the clean air and the budding flowers so bring those beautiful scents inside using candles, air fresheners or wax melts. Waking up to the fresh scents of roses or freshly baked cookies will help you start your day on the right foot and bring a smile to your face as you deal with the melting snow outside. I personally love to use a light clean scented air freshener in the bathroom and then use floral scents or subtle vanillas in the rest of my home and candles are my favourite method. There is something so soothing about the burning flame that just can't be beat. Every once in awhile I like to add a yummy sweet scent of a baked treat and for that Bath and Body Works candles are the best choice.

4. Spring is all about lightness and bright colours that are covered in a layer of sunshine. To replicate this in your home open up all of your curtains to let the light in and take away any dark toned nick knacks in favour of whites, creams and pale yellows. Then follow that up by injecting little pops of colour throughout your decor with pillows, books, picture frames and collectibles. I love to use a base of white and cream in all of my bedding, blankets and small furniture and then I add colour back in bit by bit until I find the perfect mixture. It's best to take small steps so that you don't overwhelm your space and end up in a rainbow coloured kitchen.

Follow these tips and you will be feeling the springtime spirit in no time!

What is your favourite season? How do you get rid of the winter blues?
What is your favourite way to bring spring into your home?

Review | Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless Foundation

Hey Beauties!

We all know how difficult it can be to find a good foundation especially at the drugstore when testers are impossible to find and shades are a guessing game. There are a few solid foundations that everyone seems to gravitate towards because they have a good reputation and reviews are easy to find. Today I have a new foundation to add that "all stars" collection and this one might be even better than some of the cult classics we all know and love.

Maybelline released their Fit Me collection a few years ago with a foundation, powder and concealer that all had corresponding shades to ensure the perfect match every time. The range came with 12 shades designed to fit any skin tone from fair to dark in a fuss free system where shades ending in 0 were perfect for yellow based complexions and those ending in 5 were for pink toned. Combined with Maybelline's exclusive shade matching technology - I will tell you more about this soon - the range was an absolute winner. Well times and trends have changed and Maybelline paid attention, they listened to their customers and decided to expand the collection to embrace not only different skin tones but different skin types. The original Fit Me foundation was reformulated and renamed as Fit Me Hydrate & Smooth - for normal to dry skin - and then they introduced the Fit Me Matte & Poreless line - for normal to oily skin! A true matte foundation from the drugstore is almost impossible to find so you can imagine how anxious I was to try out the new formula.

The Fit Me Matte & Poreless foundation* is housed in the same sleek glass bottle as the original formulation and the only difference between the two is the addition of blue accents - which I love! It is quite heavy and definitely breakable so it's not very travel friendly. It also has no pump but that can be easily fixed because the MAC foundation pumps fit pretty well. Inside the bottle is what truly matters and where it starts to get good, the Matte & Poreless foundation claims to mattify skin and erase pores with it's blurring micro-powder particles that also help to absorb oil and I have to admit that they definitely get the job done! The oil and wax free formula employs an exclusive technology of using a translucent base in which lightweight pigments - and those powder particles - are suspended, allowing skin's natural tone to shine through. This technology and non comedogenic formula is what allows the foundation to give impressive coverage without impacting the way your skin breathes and behaves.

The foundation itself has a gorgeous creamy texture that is not too thick or too thin, it glides onto the skin and blends like an absolute dream. It doesn't set right away so you have time to sit there and buff it into the skin. It provides good medium coverage that can easily be sheered out with a sponge or built up to almost full without ever getting cakey or feeling heavy. One layer covers the natural redness to my skin, hides all of my blemishes and significantly minimizes my pores, while still letting my freckles come through. No matter how much you apply it continues to look like your true skin but without visible pores or shine. It sets to an authentically matte finish but one that still has a bit of life to it so you never look flat, chalky or dry. Your skin looks smooth, even and almost flawless.

I find it lasts a solid 7 hours - without primer - before a little bit of fading but it still looks good even then, just a bit sheerer. Top it up with a little bit of the matching powder and you can keep going for a few more hours. I don't have excessively oily skin but I never noticed any issues with oils breaking through or a need to blot. It managed to keep it's matte finish all day and my pores stayed hidden until I washed my face.

Maybelline's Fit Me Matte & Poreless foundation is unlike other matte foundations that I have tried - especially from the drugstore - but I was really truly impressed and it has now become a staple in my collection. If you are looking for a new foundation, I highly recommend you give this one a try. It retails for $10.99 and you can find it online or at your local drugstore.
