How to Wear a Blanket Scarf | Top 4 Styles

Hey Beauties!

If you have been reading La Belle Sirene for a while or even if you just saw last week's Style Saturday then you will know that I am completely obsessed with my blanket scarf. I somehow find a way to add one to every outfit I put on and along the way I have figured out how to style it for every occasion so I thought I would share my top 4 with you.

1. The Wrap (above) - This is probably my favourite and most often worn way because it is so easy and it is so cozy. For this style, I bring the fabric together in the middle to create one long scarf, place the centre at my chin and wrap the ends around to the front. Then I pull the pieces apart and voila!

2. The Drape - A classic style that goes with anything and looks super cute with a cardigan. For this style, fold the scarf in half and simply drape it over your shoulders.

3. The Tuck - This style is specifically for those brutally cold days when i need to be as bundled up as possible. For this style I take the end of the scarf (which has been folded in half) hold it at my shoulder and then wrap the rest of the scarf around twice and tuck the ends into the scarf.

4. The Belted Cape - This is a new favourite that I only recently discovered but I have fallen in love with it. For this style I drape the scarf over my shoulders and pull apart the fabric to cover my entire chest then add a belt at the waist to hole everything in place and bring back a little shape.

So those are my 4 favourite ways to wear my blanket scarf and if you want to see more of that scarf in action then check out these posts. ( 1. 2. 3. 4.)

Here are a few of my favourite scarves if you're interested.

New In | Maybelline Master Prime Blur & Smooth Primer

Hey Beauties!

Primer seems to be one of those love or hate products when it comes to the mass market. Some people swear by it and some just can't be convinced and I have always sat somewhere in the middle. I have a few illuminating primers that I rely on purely for the added glow but I've never tried anything with the intention of altering the texture of my skin because I kind of didn't believe they would work. I'll admit I also did not want to spend a big chunk of money on a primer that might feel a bit strange or lack any sort of wow factor. So when I heard that Maybelline was releasing a collection of primers I was really excited for the chance to try an affordable option that would help me explore the world of primers.

The Maybelline Master Prime by Facestudio collection comes with three different shades -  white for Blur & Smooth, pink for Blur & Illuminate and green for Blur & Redness Control. They are water based, non oily, weightless primers filled with ultra blurring spheres to help achieve that airbrushed flawless finish. The Blur & Smooth primer* is intended to smooth uneven skin texture, blur tone imperfections and cover fine lines. Unlike other primers that boast similar claims the Maybelline offering does not have that sticky silicone texture that I really dislike but yet it still manages to achieve every single thing it mentions. The Master Prime formula is a white creamy lotion that looks and feels like a thin lightweight moisturizer. A tiny amount spreads out evenly, covering the entire face and then absorbs in seconds. It sinks into your skin leaving it smoother, softer and instantly airbrushed without any sort of greasy film or shine.

 I find it helps to blur the look of my pores just a bit and to fill the fine lines under my eyes, luckily it is non comedogenic so I don't have to worry about any clogged pores. It feels lightly hydrating so it does not build up or accentuate any of my dry patches and is super comfortable to wear. Because I have dry skin I do not have any issues with oiliness or shine but with the oil- free formula I wouldn't think it would be an issue and the hydration is not so obvious that it would cause problems for oily skin. The primer dries with a bit of tackiness that helps your foundation adhere - even on my stubborn nose - and it also extends the wear by binding itself to whatever base you choose. I have tested it under two different liquid foundations and one mineral based makeup and it has helped with the application and longevity for all three.

Overall, I am really impressed by how well the Master Prime Blur & Smooth Primer delivers on all fronts. It does absolutely everything it claims and has made me a believer in the powers of a primer. I am so happy that Maybelline has made affordable options for skeptics like me and I plan to try out the other versions soon. The Maybelline Master Prime  by Facestudio Primers retail for $12.99 and are available at your local drugstore.

An Adventure with Ripley's Aquarium

Hey Beauties!

I'm currently sitting in bed sick as can be but a few days ago I bundled myself up and brought plenty of tissues on an adventure with Stephanie from Tragic Wardrobe. A couple of months ago we were lucky enough to be offered the chance to visit the Ripley's Aquarium in Toronto and I was not going to miss it no matter how ill I felt.

Stephanie and I hopped on a train and headed into the city for lunch at the famous Old Spaghetti Factory - somewhere neither of us had ever been - and stuffed ourselves with delicious pasta and yummy bread with garlic butter. Then we walked over to the Ripley's Aquarium to experience one of the most amazing days of our lives. I took as many photos as I could just so I could share the experience with you so take a look at my trip to the Ripley's Aquarium.

{yummy cappuccino}
{Stephanie's spaghetti and meatballs}
{the interactive section where kids and adults can explore and touch fish}
{a school of fish}
{a massive lobster}
{they replicate natural environments with streams of light}
{starfish friends}
(who knew coral could be so beautiful?}
{swimming right along side the fish}
{sharks galore}
{this guy was huge!}
{under the sea in this mind blowing tunnel}
{never thought I would get this close to a shark}
{learning how to touch these crab like creatures}
{I found Nemo}
{so beautiful}
{the Ray Bay}
{so graceful}
{upside down jellyfish}
{so incredibly small}
{learning all about stingrays}

Ripley's Aquarium was such an awe inspiring place. It is a home for people of all ages to come explore and learn a little something about the underwater universe that we might not fully appreciate. It is a place that encourages education and makes it truly fun to learn with hands on stations and plenty of fun interactive games in each section. You have the chance to get up close and personal with millions of species that you would never imagine being able to see let alone touch - a few specific ones. It immerses you in a magical world and gives you the chance to connect to these animals in a way that is safe for you and them. It is obvious that the animals are thought of first, their health, safety and happiness is top priority and they are being cared for by people who love them.

The Ripley's Aquarium is truly an amazing attraction right in the heart of Toronto and I think that everyone needs to visit at least once so go on and have you own adventure.

*Thank you to Ripley's for having us*

Happy Skin with Kiss My Face Light Moisturizing Lotion Spray

Hey Beauties!

As dedicated as I am to my skincare routine I must shamefully admit that I always seem to forget about the rest of my body. I have never been very good with that side of my routine because frankly I just don't like the typical body lotion. I have tried lotions, potions, serums and butters and every single one has left me feeling sticky and uncomfortable not to mention a little bit smelly. So when I was offered the chance to try the Air Kiss Light Moisturizing Lotion from Kiss My Face* I was curiously optimistic but slightly hesitant. After a couple of weeks of use I have to say I am seriously surprised and my skin is finally happy.

Kiss My Face has introduced a lightweight lotion that packs a serious punch of hydration in a handy new package. The air powered - no chemicals! - continuous spray nozzle is designed to reach every single angle so you can get into the hardest of places and the continuous spray means you get a steady stream of a fine mist so no need to worry about a splotchy application. The nozzle also features a handy locking mechanism so you can carry this guy to the beach and it won't leave any mess in your bag.

The ultra lightweight lotion is formulated with all natural nourishing antioxidants like Lavender, Aloe Vera, Sunflower Seed Oil and Shea Butter to sooth and calm the skin, as well as some added vitamins to help fight free radicals. The ingredients come together to deliver a massive punch of hydration without irritating my super sensitive skin. While other moisturizers have left me unsatisfied and covered in rashes this lotion has completely calmed my skin and turned the harsh surface texture into smooth, happy skin. To top it all off the lotion is friendly to so many health and lifestyle issues by being gluten free, cruelty free, vegan and free of parabens, phthalates, or artificial fragrances.

 For application, simply hold the bottle about 4 inches away from your body and spray, I found the best method is to quickly move in circular motions in order to cover every nook and cranny. Then rub in lightly and you're done! The Kiss My Face lotion absorbs in seconds and is light as a feather, once it's dry you feel absolutely nothing but super soft skin. No sticky residue or greasy film to be found, you can get dressed within minutes or even hop into bed with no worries of transferring that lotion to your clean sheets. I particularly love to apply this just before bed because the Lavender and Shea scent is incredibly relaxing and spa like - think Caudalie Beauty Elixir - and it helps me fall asleep!

I think I have finally found a lotion that I can faithfully commit to because there is nothing better than a mess free, grease free, time saving lotion that actually does what it promises without irritating my skin. If you are like me, I highly recommend you try this amazing lotion from Kiss My Face.

The Kiss My Face Air Kiss Light Moisturizing Lotion retails for $9.99 and is also available in two other scents - Tropical Coconut and Fragrance Free Olive and Aloe.

The Sunday Post

Hey Beauties!

This week has not been very exciting at all and there's really nothing I can tell you about. I am going on day 10 of the flu and I haven't left my bed except for one day when I went to visit the Ripley's Aquarium in Toronto. I had an amazing day, learnt so much  and took plenty of photos that I will share with you on Wednesday so stay tuned!

I'm so grateful for my anxious tendency to plan ahead because I've had all of my posts done ahead of time but now I need to catch up on all the time I've missed.

Now I'm going back to watching way too much Netflix.

How was your week?

Style Saturday | Belted

Hey Beauties!

It has been absolutely glacial in Hamilton lately and with the -40 degree temperatures I am doing everything I possibly can to stay warm while still looking somewhat presentable. I saw an outfit very similar to this on Pinterest and thought it was ingenious so I decided to try it for myself. My blanket scarf is an absolute necessity in my winter wardrobe but while my neck is always toasty warm the rest of me is freezing so why not wrap yourself up in your scarf so your whole body can benefit? I simply draped my scarf over my shoulders, pulling it apart to cover my entire chest and then added a belt to keep it in place and also add a bit more shape back into the mix. It was so surprising how much of a difference it made to add another thin layer but it was also so much cuter than a thermal shirt or big hoodie! This is definitely one of my favourite ways to wear my trusty blanket scarf and next week I will be showing you 3 other ways to rock one so stay tuned!

A Perfect Pout With Annabelle Cosmetics

Hey Beauties!

A good lipstick with all the right qualities can be hard to find especially at an affordable price. While there are countless options at the drugstore sometimes you have to give a little to get what you want. If you want a lipstick that lasts all day you might have to sacrifice a comfortable formula. Only a few lipsticks have gotten it right and now I have another to add to that list because the Annabelle TwistUp Retractable Lipstick Crayons are pretty incredible.

The Annabelle TwistUp Retractable Lipstick Crayons* ($9.95) are a multi purpose product that is intended to act as a lipliner and lipstick in one. They come in 24 shades in an incredible range of multifaceted nudes to deep vampy purples with a nourishing formula that contains Shea Butter, Grape Seed Oil, Omega 3 & 6 and are paraben and scent free. They are designed in the ever popular crayon format with a pointed tip for lining the lips and a slanted side for filling them in. I absolutely love this method of packaging because it so much easier to apply than a regular lipstick and it is more travel friendly.

The formula of the Annabelle Lipstick Crayons is where things really started to blow me away, they are packed with incredible pigment, comfortable to wear and long lasting. Annabelle has created an ultra creamy, lightweight lipstick that glides on with a bit of a slip but magically for such a smooth application it does not feather, settle or bleed. They are not overtly moisturizing but they feel hydrating and comfortable without ever becoming dry and stiff. They are highly pigmented providing almost full coverage in one swipe, are easily built up without ever feeling heavy and set with a slight sheen. They last 3-4 hours before fading evenly into a stain so you don't get any patchiness or funny spots while it wears off. For an even better lifespan I love to pair these with the corresponding Annabelle Stay Sharp Lip Liners and my trusty routine for longer lasting lipstick

{Plump It Up Lipstick with Strike a Rose Liner}

The Annabelle Stay Sharp Lip Liners* ($9.95) offer a revolutionary twist to the classic retractable lipliner we all know and love. I am much more inclined to buy a retractable lip liner because I really don't like having to sharpen anything and I find the standard method to be too dry and rough on my lips. However when those retractable lip liners are used only a handful of times the tip becomes dull and rather useless at creating a sharp line. Annabelle has found the solution with their self sharpening retractable lip liners!

The Annabelle Stay Sharp Lip Liners are the perfect match to the TwistUp Lipstick Crayons, they are waterproof, hypoallergenic and intensely pigmented. They come in long, thin, tapered & colour coordinated tubes that fit well in the hand and are easy to use. The magical twist to the packaging is the specially designed cap that features a hidden sharpener inside so you get a perfect point every time. You simply twist the cap off in one direction, use the liner and when it needs to be sharpened twist the lid back on in the opposite direction until you hear a click, with each click you are sharpening the pencil with absolutely no mess as the shavings are contained in the cap. The lip liner itself is incredibly creamy and just glides along your lips with no stopping, skipping or tugging. I find it a million times easier to apply than a typical waxy liner and it really helps me to stay within the lines of my lips. They are also incredibly pigmented and are almost opaque in one swipe so they are great for wearing alone and they last for a 6 full hours before fading evenly.

{Red Carpet Lipstick with Glam Red Liner}

I think Annabelle has really hit it out of the park with these two lip products and I have my eyes set on a few other shades, I think these just might be some of my favourite lip products  at the drugstore. I highly recommend them and if you haven't tried either of them then run to your local drugstore and pick them up!

Review | Wet n Wild Wild Shine Nail Polish

Hey Beauties!

I have quite the love for nail polish and I have a bit of an addiction to adding new shades to my collection. My collection is organized by brand and is displayed on shelves in my office and I love taking the time to look through the various brands, shades and finishes to pick the perfect one for that day. One section that was a little bit small was my 4 lonely WildShine polishes from Wet n' Wild so you can not believe how excited I was to see these two brand new shades arrive in the mail.

Wet n' Wild has given their classic Wild Shine nail polishes a little bit of a makeover for Spring 2015 with a new sleek bottle with a modern design - which I love - an improved formula and plenty of new shades to choose from. I was lucky enough to receive two gorgeous shades that fit perfectly into my collection and are perfect for Spring!
 She Shells*  is a creamy, pink coral and Grasping at Strawberries* is a stunning bright, juicy red.

Wet n' Wild has been making nail polishes since 1979 and the Wild Shine collection in particular is the number 1 best selling polish on the market. The Wild Shine polishes have made their mark in the vast world of nail polishes because they feature key colours - in multiple finishes - that every girl needs in her collection at an affordable price but with this new formula they have perfected those colours so that each shade is rich and creamy. The Wild Shine collection offers you exactly what you need in a good polish without all the frills that make nail polish so expensive.

The two shades that I tried applied smoothly and left stunning, bold colour that was completely opaque in two coats. The brush is long and slightly flexible which took a second to get used to but it helped to reach the inner corners cleanly and was fantastic for smoothing out the polish preventing bubbles and smudging. Both polishes dried quickly and layered well without removing the bottom layer and once dry they lasted for 4 days before chipping which is really quite impressive. I really loved the high shine finish and the bright colours were perfect to bring a little bit of Spring into this dreary weather.
Both polishes fit into my collection perfectly and look gorgeous displayed in my office.

The Wet n' Wild Wild Shine polishes ($1.99) are available at your local Rexall/PharmaPlus and Walmart or online!
