The New Year Nail RescueMonday, January 12, 2015
The season of glitter nails has come to an end and as heartbroken as I am to do away with the beautiful gold glitter, my nails are in serious need of a break and I bet yours are too! Those thick glitter nail polishes are one of my favourite bits of the holiday season but they tend to wreak havoc on my naturally brittle nails so they are screaming out for a little TLC. It's time to break out my ultimate pamper routine.
After removing that pesky glitter - I am still trying to find the best method - with pure acetone the surface of my nails ends up a bit bumpy and rough so I pull out my secret weapon and new addiction. The MicroNail* from Emjoi is probably the best thing to ever happen to my little nails, it is essentially an electric nail buffer but this beauty buffs, smooths and polishes all in just a few seconds! The MicroNail gives my nails a shiny and smooth finish that I could never achieve manually and it significantly improves the way my nail polish applies and wears. I like to think of the MicroNail as a primer for my nails because it perfects the nail itself then helps the polish to glide on evenly and best of all makes my polish last a whole lot longer. (Full review coming soon!)
After I have thoroughly buffed and polished my nails I like to apply a hydrating cuticle oil and my current favourite is Julep's Mighty Nail and Cuticle Serum. The Mighty Serum comes in a super handy click pen and is packed with proteins to nourish and strengthen weak nails. One click is enough for both hands and once it has fully dried I wipe off any excess and apply two coats of Essie's Millionails Treatment. The Millionails Treatment is fortified with iron and amino acids and has a fibre shield to help your nails resist peeling and splitting. It makes my nails feel thicker and stronger and they have started growing much faster.
The last step in my routine is to apply a rich hand cream because it is so important to take care of the entire hand and not just the nails. I have learnt that if I have dry skin on my hands that will translate to my nails. My current obsession is the Be Delectable Strawberry & Cream Ultra Nourishing Hand Cream from Cake Beauty. Not only does this hand cream smell incredible but it is made with Shea Butter, Coconut Oil and Aloe Vera so it is packed with hydrating ingredients. After all of this, my nails feel pretty amazing and completely refreshed, this routine has completely changed the state of my nails and I have no doubt it would work for you!
How do you give your nails a little TLC?
