The 90's Nude Lip

I honestly never thought I would see the day when the trends from my childhood would be coming back around, but it has happened. Fuzzy sweaters, plaid flannels, crop tops and the brown nude lip have all come back into fashion and it is very surreal. Unfortunately, I just can't convince myself to participate in any of these flashback trends except for the nude lip, something I have always quite liked.

Being very fair skinned I have always strayed from the typical nude lipsticks, instead favouring options with a bit more depth. I have been a fan of the deeper, darker nude for a long time and I am happy to see it come back into the beauty rotation - thank you Kylie Jenner. I actually have a fair few in my collection but I have picked my top 3 to share with you. Number 1 is the Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in the shade 14, number 2 is Bite Beauty's Luminous Creme Lipstick in Musk and number 3 is of course MAC's Velvet Teddy.

Are you loving the reincarnation of the 90's trends?

Style Saturday | Custom Creations with EShakti

Being a girl with a bit of a shape, I have had my fair share of traumatic dressing room moments. Shopping can be difficult enough with the hordes of people and daunting mannequins but to get into a fitting room and have a dress not fit in one way or another can take quite a hit on the self-esteem. Women come in all shapes and sizes and no one is exactly the same as another. So why do clothes come in such restricted cuts and sizes? It simply doesn't make sense.

So when eShakti contacted me about testing out their revolutionary shopping system, I knew I had to give it a try. eShakti is an online retailer that completely changes the way we shop for clothing whether online or in person. They are the only online women's fashion apparel company that offers sizes 0 - 36W and customized clothing. They feature hundreds of styles ranging from modern to classic to vintage inspired, all of which are completely customizable! When have you ever been able to choose every little detail including fabric, length, cut, sleeves and more. Well now you can and it is so ridiculously easy!

eShakti gives you the chance to create an item of clothing that is perfectly fitted to your exact shape and preferences. If you love a dress but wish it had sleeves, you can add them, it really is entirely up to you. The process is very user friendly, the website is cleanly laid out and the options are clear and concise. All you need is a few measurements and you can create a whole wardrobe that is personalized to you.

I feel truly passionate about this company because I think that not only are they are revolutionizing the way women shop, but they are leading the way to accepting that not all bodies are the same and every women deserves a well fitting wardrobe! No matter your shape or size, you are beautiful and eShakti will help you embrace it!

Check out their Real Fashion for Real People campaign and of course their website and social media (Twitter | Instagram | Facebook).

Navy Nails for Fall

While fall typically signals the arrival of rich berry toned nails I really like to play with colour during this time of year. I tend to wear a lot of red, nudes, grey and one of my favourites blue! There is something so beautiful about a rich blue nail in the fall that screams chic to me, whether it is a navy or a bright royal. The best bit is that a blue nail can add a bit of fun and liveliness to a typically neutral fall wardrobe! My top picks for a blue toned polish are Essie's Aruba Blue - a shimmering royal blue that actually looks like the ocean, Essie's  Midnight Cami - a deep navy with a sheeny finish, and Trust Fund Beauty's Skinny Jeans - a powerful royal blue creme.

Will you rock a navy nail for fall?

A Latte Date at Cafe Oranje

Autumn signals the arrival of cold winds and darker days and all I want to do on those days is cuddle up with a nice big cup of coffee, tea or even hot chocolate. While sitting at home with a fluffy blanket and my little monsters is one of my favourite things to do sometimes I want to go out and enjoy my warm drink with some atmosphere and a friend or two. I recently discovered an amazing little dutch coffee shop called Cafe Oranje that is just around the corner from my house and it is the perfect place to do just that. My good friend Heather and I stopped by last week and took some photos of our experience.

New In | Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick Duo

(L-R Lychee - Musk)

Bite Beauty has been on my radar for awhile now but I haven't had the chance to really give the brand a try so when I saw their Luminous Creme Lipstick Duo in Sephora's dangerous checkout line, I knew I had found my chance. This handy little duo is available in a neutral and a vivid option with two corresponding shades in each for only $15! I ended up buying the neutral duo that includes the shades Musk and Lychee, both beige-y nudes with a pink undertone.

The Luminous Creme Lipstick Duo is an amazing way to test out Bite Beauty's signature "healthy" formula. All of Bite's products are made from natural, organic, food grade ingredients that you can literally eat. The best bit is that the lack of chemicals and additives does not affect the quality of the product. The lipsticks in this duo are amazing. They are incredibly creamy and they glide on smoothly without sticking to dry patches or bunching up in crevices. They provide beautiful coverage and they are actually comfortable on the lips. The formula is truly luminous, with a slight sheen that helps lips look full and perfected without being too glossy or slick. I genuinely think that Bite has found the perfect, well rounded formula and I wish all of my lipsticks were this good.

Purchasing this little duo was honestly one of the best choices I made, I am so glad that Bite Beauty offers such a unique way to test out their products and I have been converted. I already have my eye on a few shades of the full sized lipsticks and I can't wait to try more of their collection. I truly recommend that you pick up one of the Luminous Creme Lipstick Duos next time you pass by a Sephora.

Have you tried anything by Bite Beauty?

The Sunday Post

I've been sick with a cold and my amazing boyfriend surprised me with Mr. Dumbo here to make me feel better.

I have FINALLY upgraded my super old iPhone 3 to this beautiful baby the 5C and I am obsessed!

I spent Friday taking some outfit photos and the lovely Heather managed to capture me waving to a stray cat, thought I would share.

Saturday was an amazing day, I got the chance to shoot with three beautiful models for one of my absolute favourite designers, Rosa from Volver Designs. Keep your eyes peeled for a post coming soon!

Style Saturday | Ladylike Leather

One of my favourite things about the upcoming fall season is the chance to play with different textures within outfits. The beauty of fall fashion is that there are so many rich fabrics and heavy knits that balance perfectly with the darker colours and warmer tones. One of my favourite combinations is to mix the harder look of leather with the softer more feminine feeling of lace. Leather has such a reputation for being harsh but I really think you can play with it and create a sophisticated and feminine silhouette. Because leather is such a big trend for fall, I have teamed up with the beautiful Michelle from TeachinFashion so make sure you heard over to her blog to see her take on Ladylike Leather.

CBB Guest Post | Essence Dark Romance Collection

essence Dark Romance fall 2014 collection review

Hi everyone! It's me Julie from Swatch and Review and am so excited to be guest posting today on Courtney's blog, and did you know she is the Canadian Beauty Bloggers blog of the month?

The theme for September is Fall beauty. So naturally I wanted to provide some swatches and a review of one of my fave brands, essence Cosmetics! Every month or so, this brand releases what they call Trend Editions. For Fall, they have put out some real eye-catching shades in the Dark Romance collection, which is what I am sharing with you today.

essence Dark Romance fall 2014 quattro eyeshadow palette a romance to remember
Quattro Eyeshadow Palette in A ROMANCE TO REMEMBER - These four shades work really well together! The purple is a matte (although it looks metallic in this pic) as is the taupe. The silver and green are metallics that are buttery and soft.

Swatched, medium density. These all have great pigment pay-off except maybe the purple which was a little bit patchy. I think the green shade is my favourite.

The eye look I created has the purple on the lid, green in the outer corner of the lid and the silver blended from the outer V into the crease. I used the taupe to blend and soften out from the crease up to the browbone. Under my brow and in the inner corner, I used a bit of the cream highlight (stay tuned for more on that one).

Velvet Mousse Blush in PAINTED LOVE - A bright red cheek stain that has a bouncy, soft mousse texture.

essence Dark Romance fall 2014 cream highlighter light up
Cream Highlighter in LIGHT UP - A vanilla cream highlighter that reflects pink in some lights!

The blush texture was a bit odd to be, but I like it. It can be hard to even out if using your finger so I suggest using a stippling brush. As for the highlighter, it is GORGEOUS. It can be a bit slippery on non-primed skin so make sure to set it or wear primer.

I applied a small amount of the blush on the apples of my cheeks and blended out. The highlighter is on the top of my cheekbones, the tearduct and under my brow arch.

essence Dark Romance fall 2014 red romance lipstick
Lipstick in RED ROMANCE - A dark vampy berry satin lipstick that is creamy and hydrating.

essence Dark Romance fall 2014 black shadow lipgloss effects
Lipgloss Effects in BLACK SHADOW - Grey lipgloss with multi-chrome shimmer. It is supposed to be worn over lipstick to darken and add sparkle. I believe they released something similar previously in the Twilight collection.

Lipstick swatched 3x with gloss over top to show effect.

The lipstick was very smooth and creamy, it glided on and didn't feather at all. I applied a dab of the lipgloss effect to the centre of my lips to add depth.

The finished look! essence really did their homework on this. The shades really go well together and the products, despite their drugstore price tag, are really high quality!

I predict dark jewel-toned eye looks and rosy cheeks this season, what are your Fall beauty predictions?

The Transitional Wardrobe

The leaves are starting to change and Fall is right around the corner but with a confused Mother Nature it can be difficult to figure out what to wear. Some days are down right chilly while others are warm and sunny but my mind is ready for scarves and fluffy sweaters. The key to getting dressed in this transitional time is to break it down to a few staple items that you can mix and match or layer when the weather changes. I have compiled my staple items that I like to wear during this strange time and I thought I might share them with you. I hope you find some inspiration.

1. A striped top.
2. A leather jacket
3. A light sweater
4. A longline cardigan
5. A lace trimmed camisole
6. A lace top
7. A grey t-shirt
8. A leather skirt
9. A black midi skirt
10. A pair of black pants
11. A leopard print shoe
12. A black loafer
13. An ankle boot

What are your staple pieces for transitioning into Fall?

A Supercrawl Adventure

This past weekend was one big party here in Hamilton. All summer we have been counting down to the annual Supercrawl street festival. Supercrawl is the supersized version of the monthly Artcrawls I have previously posted about. A three day long celebration of arts, music, fashion and culture that brings over 100, 000 people onto the streets. This year was the biggest yet with big name bands like The Arkells and Spoon headlining and a record number of vendors lining the streets. The live art installations were as amazing as ever and the street performances were mind blowing. I have compiled a few photos of my time at Supercrawl so go ahead and enjoy.

The best bit of this years Supercrawl was the inclusion of a section devoted entirely to fashion and showcasing Hamilton's top designers. I went to go see a few shows and wanted to share a few pictures from the amazing Volver. Volver is handmade and every piece is unique, it is one of my favourite brands and I will soon be working with them very closely so keep an eye on this space.

Supercrawl is such an amazing experience that just gets better and better every year. I am already counting down the days until next year.
