The Sunday Post

Sunday was such a special day, I went on a day trip to Ridgefield - by Niagara Falls - for a family party and I got to sneak away and walk down to the beach. I always feel so at peace around water.

This week, Chloe has developed a new habit of sitting on my vanity with me while I get ready. It's all a secret plan to get away with some q-tips.

I may have gone a little bit crazy at the mall on Friday but I am so thrilled with all of my new fall inspired goodies.

How was your week?

Style Saturday | Picking Wildlfowers

Now that the weather seems to be changing and the cool fall winds are rolling in, I'm frantically trying to make the most of my summer wardrobe. I spotted this beautiful summer dress recently at Forever 21 and fell in love with the gorgeous colours, high waist and bohemian design. It is incredibly lightweight and easy to wear so it is the perfect dress to layer up with cardigans and jackets without becoming too suffocating. I can see myself wearing this dress all through September and October, transitioning into fall.

My Top 5 Revlon Lipsticks

You may or may not have noticed but I am a big fan of Revlon's lip products. My collection of Matte Balms and Super Lustrous Lipsticks is a bit embarrassing but I just can't deny that Revlon offers some of the best lipsticks from the drugstore. So far no other company can compete with the massive selection of shades and formulations all with consistently beautiful application and pigmentation. Before my addiction gets too far out of hand I thought I would compile my 5 favourite shades so that maybe you can add to your own collection - and I can live vicariously through you!

Primrose (668) - My absolute favourite, Primrose is my go - to everyday lipstick. It is a beautiful sort of lilac toned pinky nude that just adds so much life to my complexion.

Demure (683) - A true pinky nude that is perfect for everyday. It has a bit of a sheen to it but is still very natural.

Pink in the Afternoon (415) - A beautiful dusty rose that is incredibly creamy and perfect for that darker nude trend that is swimming around.

Lovers Coral (825) - A sheer but incredibly buildable formula with a sheen finish in a really pretty orangey coral.

Love That Red (725) - A classic shade, a bright blue toned red. My absolute favourite for a chic red lip.

The Original Greek Salad

Keeping up with my Summer Salads theme, I wanted to share another one of my favourites - an original style Greek salad. Did you know that a traditional Greek salad actually has no lettuce whatsoever? Well, its true! If you go to an authentic Greek restaurant and order a salad you should receive a mixture of tomato, cucumber, red onion and feta cheese - no lettuce! Being a huge fan of Greek food, I have been eating salad like this for years and I thought I should share it with you! This recipe is another one that is incredibly simple but packed with flavour and colour.

What You Need:

1 whole tomato
1/2 a cucumber
1/2 a small red onion
1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
dressing to taste ( I use this

This recipe is so easy to make, literally all you need to do is chop up your vegetables into small chunks and place them in a bowl. Add your feta cheese to the bowl and then sprinkle a little bit of dressing onto the mixture. Toss everything together and voila!

Serve with a yummy sandwich or even some salmon and you have the perfect fresh summer meal!

The Lightweight Base Breakdown

I don't know about you but when summer rolls around I am dying to break out the lighter bases. Long summer days, exciting adventures and nights out with friends mean I don't have the time for full coverage foundation or touch ups throughout the day. I want something that covers up the sunburn but lets my skin do the talking. I am all about a breathable base that feels like air and I have rounded up my top 4 in the lightweight base breakdown.

The Fluid Foundation: Maybelline has knocked it out of the park with their newest release; buildable coverage, satin finish and feels like nothing on the skin. The Dream Wonder Liquid Touch Foundation is the perfect pick for those nights out and looks amazing in photographs.

The CC Cream: For those super natural days when all you need is a little bit of a complexion correction, pick the Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream. A dewy finish base with sheer coverage that covers up any redness and dark shadows but lets your skin be the main attraction.

The Cult Classic: When I think about tinted moisturizers, the first one that comes to mind is Laura Mercier's oil free option. A creamy base that offers a bit more coverage than the average TM and applies a bit more like a foundation. Gives a flawless finish that can't be beat.

The Underdog: The Balm is still a relatively new brand that is making it's mark on the beauty world, one product that definitely does that get enough attention is their Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer. A lightweight base that applies like a lotion and has the best colour match I've ever found!

For those "no makeup makeup days" these beauties are the way to go. What is your go to lightweight base?

The Sunday Post

Spent two days this week with my beautiful friend Heather, she is the one who shoots all of my outfit posts. Keep your eyes peeled for some amazing new outfits!

While we were out shooting, this sweetheart made herself comfortable on top of all of my clothes.

Some beautiful flowers that I picked for one of my outfit posts. They lasted a couple of hours before they were attacked by one of my cats.

To end the week, my boyfriend and I went out for burgers and ate way too much.

How was your week?

Style Saturday | Summer Whites

One of my favourite outfits to wear this summer has been a flowy white dress. There is just something about a clean white outfit that screams summer. White is so fresh and bright so it brings an element of liveliness and sophistication to an outfit and you can pair it with just about anything. I love to dress it up with a fun statement necklace or wear it alone to keep it simple and chic. I love the cut out daisy print on this dress, it makes such an impression that I like to let the dress do the talking and avoid accessories.

Two Steppin'

Lately I've been keeping my makeup pretty simple for the day to day and in the midst I have re-discovered an old favourite - the Maybelline Colour Tattoos. My current go to eye look has been to apply Bad to the Bronze all over the lid - with my finger - and then to blend it in around the edges. That's it! It's a super simple two step process that looks amazing, the metallic pigments in the tattoo create a sort of natural shadow in the crease and along the lashline that makes it look like you made much more of an effort than you actually did.

How do you use your Maybelline Colour Tattoos?

Sweat Proof Makeup

Now I know it's the end of August and Summer is almost over but in my chilly little neighbourhood I am still dreaming of beaches and lazy bike rides. Typically, the warmer months in my corner of the world last until late September so I would have at least one more month of summer love but this year Mother Nature seems to have changed her mind. It feels a bit more like October than August but that doesn't stop me from wishing for long sunny days and sweltering temperatures. I'm hoping a perfect summer day will show itself soon but for now I will live vicariously through you lucky people who live in a warmer climate and share my must haves for sweat proof makeup.

1. A good lightweight base is a must! A great choice would be a tinted moisturizer or a BB cream but if you are looking for more coverage, stick with something like the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Stick or the Dream Wonder Fluid Foundation that incorporate powder particles to help create a matte finish.

2. Powder is your friend! In Summer there is a major difference between glowing skin and sweaty skin. My best advice is to lean towards a more matte or satin finish by setting your foundation with a powder. Not only will you look fresh all day but you're makeup will stay put. My favourite is the Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder.

3. A setting spray is essential! I never leave the house without spraying on a little bit of the Urban Decay Chill Makeup Setting Spray. A spritz after you apply your base and at the very end of your routine will make sure your handiwork stays in place all day long. Chill is also great because it adds a bit of hydration to the mix.

4. Waterproof mascara is the way to go! Summer is the time of cottages and dips in the pool and you don't want to have the dreaded raccoon eyes so make sure you pick a mascara that will stand up to the pressure. Benefit's They're Real is the best of the best when it comes to lasting through any situation.

5. Don't forget those eyebrows! Even on the hottest of days you need to look put together and clean eyebrows always do the trick. Powder and pencil run the risk of melting off your face to try a gel or pomade that just wont budge! My go to is Benefit's Gimme Brow!

6. Who has time for that? In the summer I am always rocking a bright lip but I don't want to worry about fading, transferring or bleeding while I'm enjoying my iced tea so my must have is a lip stain! Revlon's Colourstay Moisture Stains are the bees knees, bold shades in a super comfortable formula that lasts all day! The best bit is they can serve double duty as a cheek stain!

What are your sweat proof summer essentials?

White Hot Nails

I never thought that I would fall in love with white nail polish, but I must admit that it has happened. For years I only used white as a base for brighter shades and never even considered wearing it alone. It wasn't until recently when I stumbled across a display for the new Rita Ora for Rimmel London nail polishes that I even looked at a white shade objectively.

Maybe my recent obsession with neutral griege tones has steered me in this direction or maybe it was completely circumstantial but either way I am so happy I bit the bullet. I ended up buying the 60 Second Nail Polish in White Hot Love and Breakfast in Bed - a Tiffany blue. The second I got home, I pulled out my manicure kit and dove right it. I must admit, these polishes are awesome! They claim to be opaque in one coat and to dry in 60 seconds flat and they are not lying! The brush is probably the best bit because it is a rather short but wide brush that literally covers the entire nail in one swipe - at least for me but I do have small nails. The formula is great, it is in fact opaque in one coat, it applies smoothly and it dries in seconds! I've read about issues with lasting power but I am going on day 4 with no chipping whatsoever.

Over these last 3 days, I have gotten quite a few compliments on my manicure and it has completely changed my views on white nails. Done right, a white nail is so incredibly chic and perfect for summer. It brightens up any complexion and although I wouldn't know, I'm sure it would look amazing with a tan.

If you haven't tried a white nail polish or even one of these amazing Rimmel London 60 Second Nail Polishes you need to get on it!

The Sunday Post

My mom went on a little trip to the St. Jacobs Market and came home with about 30 pints of blueberries! I was so excited I had to run over to her house to bake some muffins. Here is my mom's cat Mara helping me take a shot for a recipe post.

I managed to steal some blueberries to take home, so the next day I had a friend over for a pancake brunch.

On Thursday, my friend Heather and I ran over to Girl On The Wing for the amaxing $10 vintage clothing sale! I scored a beautiful midi skirt and a flowly white top.

Style Saturday | A Striped Affair

I love stripes. It's a fact. Whenever I go shopping, my eyes always go straight to the stripes but I don't actually own that much because I watched way too much What Not to Wear as a kid so I'm terrified stripes will make me look larger. This dress is an exception because the stripes are designed to slope down on the sides to create a slimmer figure. I am also a huge fan of the high neckline and racerback shape because it is really flattering. Overall, a great dress.

New In | Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks

Being one of my favourite brands, I am always on the lookout for any Bourjois products I can find. Though Bourjois is carried in various Shoppers Drug Marts, it is not all that easy to find and even then, the selection is not the best. So imagine my delight when I was planning my International Swap and the possibilities were endless. I specifically requested a few Bourjois lipsticks and blushes and was so incredibly thrilled to receive one of the Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks.

The Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks ($23) were a ridiculously exciting release that swamped the UK beauty blogs with rave reviews and I was definitely not disappointed. The Velvets are a form of liquid lipstick that applies in the form of a gloss with a handy slanted doefoot applicator and dries to a matte, almost powdery finish. They apply best in thin coats built up to achieve full opacity though you can get a bold colour in one swipe. On the lips, they glide on smoothly and evenly with a wet sort of sensation that is not at all sticky. The formula is not drying in the least and feels as if you are not even wearing lipstick. In terms of staying power, the Velvets do not budge, they last a good 6 hours leaving a perfect stain on the lips and never grow uncomfortable.

The beautiful shade you see above is 02 Frambourjoise, a vivid raspberry pink and I am in love with it. I am a big fan of bright, bold colours - especially pink - and the entire line of Velvets is right up that alley. Of the six shades available - in Canada -  only one is remotely neutral. Between the vibrant shades and the brilliant formula, Bourjois has created the perfect lip product for nights out and long summer days. I honestly, love this product and I really hope I can track down a few more shades.

Have you tried the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks?

The Eye of Faith - A Hidden Gem

Today I wanted to share a special place with all of you, somewhere that is a little off the beaten path, a place that is filled to the brim with unique treasures and curiosities that anyone would be lucky to behold.

I first met those handsome gentlemen in the photo above, Paul A Heaton and Aaron Robert Duarte, at the wonderful Village Station Bazaar back in June and they wowed me with their impressive collection of vintage clothing and memorabilia. The items they sold were unlike any I had ever seen before, each piece of clothing and every oddity held a story and a presence. After speaking with them, I learnt of their immense online presence with a blog, online shop and website full of countless lookbooks that acted more like films than simple fashion shoots. Instantly, I was thrown back in time to a place of 50's glamour mixed with the grittiness and mystery of greaser culture.

Now I want to take you back in time with me to The Eye of Faith - a true hidden gem in the city of Hamilton.

The Eye of Faith rests on the foundation of years of thrifting and seeking the treasures that lie in the mountains of clothing thrown wayside. Through the tribulations of managing a student budget while studying film, interior design, art, photography and fashion, their true passion for finding the beauty in the past helped Paul and Aaron realize the potential of the vintage market. The necessity for achieving a personal style on a dime then became a collection that the two friends turned into a business through their website and various flea markets around Toronto. Now a few years later that business has bloomed into a brick and mortar location in the heart of the James North District.

The Eye of Faith is not your typical shop, it is an experience, one that you will never forget. Located underneath the lovely Hawk & Sparrow, you climb down a flight of battered stairs into the world that is The Eye of Faith. The deliberate choice of housing their collection in a hollowed out basement gives the feel of entering a secret hideaway or a treasure trove that has been invisible to the public for decades. It is an exhilarating feeling. Once inside you are surrounded by all types of treasures. Specializing in men's vintage fashion - something that is too often overlooked - you are faced with a carefully curated collection of bomber jackets, shirts, blazers, hats and bags. Each piece has a history and a story of discovery that either of the boys will be happy to share. The Eye also appeals to the ladies, saying "that every well dressed man must have a well dressed woman at his side". The collection of womens fashion is composed of glamorous pieces from the 60's and 70's, inspired by style icons such as Edie Sedgewick and Patricia Hearst. Feel free to dig through the racks yourself or be given the chance to be styled by two of the best creative minds and you will leave with an outfit that will never be recreated or copied.

Of course, along side the vintage fashions you will also find a thought provoking collection of vintage curiosities and collectibles to complete your experience.

The old brick walls of The Eye of Faith are lined with the most unique of items; pieces of furniture, paintings, old pop culture magazines, anatomical figures, films, jewels and the best unicorn collection I've ever seen. Every piece is truly a treasure, something that was picked with careful consideration for its future possibilities. One of the most impactful sections of the shop has to be the collection of old photographs. You could spend hours looking through each photo and contemplating their history. The Eye take pleasure in showcasing the mysterious, the creepy and the strange but they some how create a beautiful image of creativity, individuality and self expression. They teach their clientele how to take the best of the past and transform it to better the future. Although The Eye of Faith may not be the typical shopping destination, it is one that truly deserves recognition because it is a step forward for our society. Style is often confused with "trendy" and that is not the case, style is completely individual and the thing that The Eye aims to teach us is that "Style isn't as cut and dry as most people would love to make it. Style is a studied and labored tradition that has been carried on, and handed down for generations. We do not want to dictate your wardrobe, as much as we'd love to inspire the mind, and open up possibility."

The Eye of Faith is a place where anyone can go and discover something about themselves that they may have not known to begin with. Embrace the unique, the weird and the secret. Embrace the past and look to it to impact your future.

The Eye of Faith is located at 126 James St. North Hamilton Ontario and you can learn more about them on their website or shop their collection on their Etsy

The last photo shown is a portrait of Paul's great great grandfather who was an illusionist, I think it is very fitting how his passions and curiosities have passed down to Paul so now he can share them with the next generation.
