Style Saturday | The Summer Fashion Haul

When Summer rolls around my taste in clothing and my overall style take a bit of a 180. While in the winter I love dark colours, neutrals, leathers and heavy knits, in the summer I tend to lean more towards a bohemian vibe. Temperatures can reach an uncomfortable high and it can be ridiculously humid so I tend to live by the less is more mentality, while trying to remain feminine. I am a girly girl at heart and I prefer to wear dresses and skirts to pants or shorts.

So starting with dresses, I bought two maxi dresses both from Forever 21, one is a simple striped cotton and the other is a pretty floral with lace trim and a slit. I also bought two slip dresses, which is one of my favourite silhouettes for summer, they are easy to throw on and you still look put together. The first is from Sirens and has a very bold print while the second is from Forever 21 and is a much more delicate floral. I absolutely love the caged back on both dresses. Lastly, I fell in love with this black lace fit and flare dress from Suzy Shier. It is incredibly flattering and the neckline is perfect for my smaller chest, I can't wait to wear this to an upcoming event!

Now on to tops, I was looking for pieces that were easy to throw on with a maxi skirt or to dress up for an event with black pants and heels. I picked up two floral camisoles, a black top with a bow accent, and a white shirt with a sheer patterned front and rolled sleeves. I also bought two crop tops, a simple royal blue and an adorable lace trimmed camisole. The last thing I bought was a black and white printed kimono, something that is completely different for me. I'm not sure how I am going to wear this but I think it could be lovely.

So that is what I have purchased for Summer but I'm sure I will be buying even more. Everything is just so cute right now and I can't stop shopping. How do you dress during the summer? Do you like to keep it easy and feminine like me or do you prefer shorts and tshirts? Have you bought anything recently?

Essie's Go Ginza | The Perfect Summer Shade

If you follow my instagram, you will know that I am constantly changing up my nail colour but for spring and summer I have been leaning more towards the mints, blue, and lilacs. There is just something about a good pastel that really brightens my mood and gets me into the summer spirit. One of my absolute favourite shades for this sunny season is Essie's Go Ginza. At first glance it seems to be a pretty lilac creme but it is really quite deceiving. Under the right light, this beauty becomes the slightest bit paler and then under direct sunlight it becomes a bright purple. I'm not sure if I got a wonky bottle or if it is widespread but I am in love with its versatility. As with most Essie polishes, the formula is a dream. It glides on smoothly and is opaque in two coats.

You can buy Essie at most drugstores and online at

Have you tried Go Ginza? What polishes are you loving?

Girl On The Wing

If you live in Hamilton or have even visited you have most likely passed by the bright pink shop with the eye catching window displays nestled in the International Village on King St East. The opening of Girl On the Wing, just over a year ago, was an exciting moment for the community as it marked the beginning of a new identity for the International Village. What once was a somewhat forgotten section of the city is now bustling with coffee shops, book stores, barber shops, amazing food and plenty of young new residents.

Girl On the Wing is owned and operated by the absolutely beautiful Whitney McMeekin, a Hamilton native with an inspiring passion for all things nostalgic. From a young age, Whitney was infatuated with a world of imagination, whimsy and dreams and having been raised in a bookstore, her creative nature was free to roam. As time went by she learned to express herself through dance and then during her teenage years, Whitney went thrifting with her sister and stumbled across the reality of her imagination - vintage. She discovered a time of classic beauty, of glamour and femininity and a time where quality and care were priorities. From that began a passion that she would carry through her education in Fashion Communication at Ryerson University and her years working in the Toronto fashion industry. Whitney would spend her free time searching high and low for little vintage treasures and when her collection grew to be too much she came to the realization that it was time to share her passion with the people around her. That realization then turned into what you see today, a physical embodiment of her collection and the dream world in which she lives.

When you walk through the doors of Girl On the Wing, you are instantly transported into a world of nostalgia, where you are surrounded by furniture, knick knacks, clothing, shoes, and novelties all authentically vintage or inspired. Whitney made the choice to separate herself from other stores that specialize in vintage by offering a more relatable approach. Along side her collection, she has hand picked items from all over the world that replicate vintage aesthetics in a modern medium while still relaying the ideals she hopes to portray. It has always been incredibly important to Whitney that her store be unique, as she herself is a unique soul and her goal is to offer unique and cool items to people in an affordable and approachable manner. It is intended that Girl On the Wing be the place for discovering the magic in the old and celebrating it in a new and completely personal way. To her the beauty of vintage is not just the story behind it but also the story that will be created, and that is exactly what Girl On the Wing accomplishes. The shop is bright and airy and the atmosphere is very relaxed but there is also a hint of lingering excitement, because to Whitney and her customers it is an experience. Every person is welcome to be completely individual in how they see the store and what they make of the products inside. The idea of vintage is no longer overwhelming as everything is offered in a way that is applicable to the everyday person, even those who have not ventured into the world of vintage before.

Chatting with Whitney is really a treat as she has such a beautiful outlook on the world. She is an inherently positive person who is inspired by everything around her. She views fashion as an expression of art or creativity and sees the beauty in the smallest of things. She appreciates design in all forms and tries to share that with her community, whether it be colour and pattern, textiles, fashion or paper goods. Girl On the Wing, truly is a direct extension of Whitney and the experience of being in her store is nothing short of amazing. In the few times I have visited and the day we spent talking I have grown to admire and respect her greatly. I appreciate her love for the past as well as modern fan culture and I can not go into her store without spying something I need to add to my own personal collection.

I truly think that Girl On the Wing is one of the best shops in Hamilton run by one of the loveliest souls I have ever met. If you get the chance, please stop by and experience your own trip down memory lane.

Girl On the Wing is located at 181 King St. East in Hamilton Ontario

Apologies for all the photos, everything was just too stunning!

Bathtime Beauty

Images - Pinterest

If you know anything about me you know I love a good bath. The hot water, the bubbles that smell amazing, and quiet time. After posting my bathtub pamper routine I decided to share with you lovely readers, something that I found incredibly interesting.

Did you know that there are a million more options to enhance your bath time than just bubble bath, oils or bath bombs? Apart from rose petals, I never thought to add anything organic to my bath. In reality it's a bit of a duh moment, we are always trying to detox and treat our bodies naturally so why not go straight back to the basics?

Enhance your me time with something you can't find in the beauty aisle - add any of these to the hot water and enjoy.

Tea Bags - anti-aging properties that detox and balance the skin.

Honey - Softens and smooths the skin.

Jello Powder - Hydrates and soften the skin plus it smells amazing.

Milk - Soothes and calms irritated skin.

Olive Oil - Hydrates and strengths the skin's outer layer, also great for anti-aging.

Salt - An anti-imflammitory that helps relieve pain.

Lavender - A great stress reliever that helps you wind down at the end of the day, is also   great at soothing inflammation and muscle strains.

Lemon - Shrinks pores and helps to refresh and revive your body.

Ginger Root - Wonderful for cold and flu relief as well as relaxing muscles.

Baking Soda - Calms and soothes irritated skin.

Cinnamon - Great for treating rashes and detoxing the skin.

What do you like to add to your bathtime?

The Sunday Post

This past week seems to have flown by and I'm still one day behind. Monday was Victoria Day - a national holiday - so everything was closed and my mind was severely confused on what day it is for the rest of the week. The week started off very nicely with Shayne and I hitting up Radius for brunch on the Monday. We had some amazing fresh fruit with mint infused honey and then I had some really delicious eggs benedict and Shayne had some sort of waffle, egg and sausage sandwich.

This photo was taken on one of my favourite days of the week when my friend Heather came over and we watched cheesy movies, drank too much tea and painted our nails. I chose Essie's Bikini So Teeny for my toes.

Hamilton seems to be a little bit behind on the weather, Spring has just arrived and flowers have begun to pop up, like these beauties, but I'm not sure Summer will ever show its sunny rays.

The absolute best bit of the week was recieving this amazing package in the mail. I recently won a contest hosted by Mr. Dave Lackie, Beauty Editor for the National Post and the stunners pictured above are what I received. I was shocked when I opened the package to see such beautiful products from Guerlain, a brand I have always wanted to try. There will be a post on these beauties soon!

How was your week? What did my fellow Canadians do for Victoria Day?

Style Saturday | The New Accessory

Every once in awhile, something or someone will come into your life that changes everything. It can little or big but it will make an impact. My friend Heather and I have been attached at the hip for almost 8 years now and she has seen me at my absolute worst and my absolute best. Over the years, we have cried, cheered, supported and defended eachother to the world and it somehow became a thing to call eachother "our anchor". We are an incredibly sappy pair so when she returned from her recent cruise and handed me a stunning handmade anchor bracelet, I may have wanted to cry. She found this gem in a small street market in St. Thomas and thought of me, since she gave this beautiful gift to me, it has not left my arm. The best bit is, it is a tiny bracelet which is perfect because i have tiny wrists and hands and all bracelets just fall right off but not this beauty!

I could not be more thankful for such a thoughtful gift and I will treasure it forever. Thank you bebe.

My Bathtime Pamper Routine

Every Sunday, I like to take a break from the day to day for a little me time, and the best place for me to do that is my amazing clawfoot bath tub. A long warm soak is incredibly helpful to me because I have an auto-immune disorder that affects my muscles and joints, so I absolutely neeeed to enjoy my time in the bathtub. Occassionaly, I will put on some music, close my eyes and just relax but my weekly pamper night is something I really look forward to.

My pamper essentials are pretty simple. I need a yummy candle, a good book, a glass of wine or tea, a good face mask and bubbles, lots of bubbles.

I like to burn at least one candle and this time I chose my Sweet Pea and Jasmine candle from Target. Next I like to grab a good book (Summer at Tiffanys by Marjorie Hart is my current obsession) and a glass of yummy wine. I set them over the tub and then slap on a face mask, my two favourites are both by Origins - the Out of Trouble and Clear Improvement. I like to leave these one for at least the first half of my bath to let them really sink in.

Next, I like add my favourite part - the bubbles! This week, I picked out my new bath bomb from bomb cosmetics, it didn't have much of a smell but it was incredibly moisturizing and i loved the little star shaped glitter - they did not stick to me thankfully.

Once my bath is finished, I will pop out and cover myself in body butter and then do a little cuticle care.

And thats that! A simple but super relaxing night where my mind, body and soul are all pampered to bits.

How do you pamper yourself? Do you love bubble baths as much as I do?

Orange Lips For Spring

One of the most exciting and anticipated trends in Spring beauty is a stunning orange lip. Whether it's bright and beautiful or muted and delicate, an orange lip can add an essence of glamour and style to any look. Personally, I love to pair an orange lip with a glowy complexion and a golden eye or sleek winged liner. I've gathered together 4 of my favourite orange lip products and I can't wait to share them with you.

The Muted Balm:

The Revlon Lip Butter in Juicy Papaya has been a staple in my spring/summer makeup bag for a very long time. The sheer but buildable formula is a breeze to apply at home or on the go and it adds just the perfect hint of colour. I love to pat this into the lips to achieve the appearance of a stain.

The Glossy Lip:

The Maybelline Colour Elixir in Breathtaking Apricot is a very unique colour, it is a mixture of tones and it comes out as a coral with hints of orange and pink. I find the colour changes in different lights but it is always gorgeous. The formula is also lovely, with the colour of a lipstick, the shine of a gloss and the hydration of a balm.

The Peachy Lipstick:

The Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick in Peche Cosay is new to my collection so I've only just began to play around with it, but it is definitely one to remember. The colour is beautiful, a more muted peach that is universally flattering and the formula is to die for. This lipstick is incredibly hydrating and it just glides onto the lips but the best bit is that it lasts for hours!

The Bold Matte:

The Revlon Matte Balm in Audacious is the boldest of the group and it makes one hell of a statement. The super creamy formula dries down matte, but does not dry out the lips like other matte offerings. It also has pretty incredibly lasting power that is perfect for a night out.

No matter which formula you choose, an orange lip will take your beauty game to a whole new level.

Have you tried an orange lip lately? What are your favourite picks?

Fitness | Fashionably Fit

As a true fashionista at heart, I always want to be stylish and I may have a slight obsession with workout gear. Maybe "shopaholic" would better describe this obsession rather than using fashion as an excuse haha! I like to think I justify these purchases since I usually workout about 5 times a week.

Usually I don't opt for shorts at the gym, however on this occasion I was hitting one of my favourite trails for a run!

My shirt is from Forever 21, I love the soft fabric which keeps me cool and of course, the crisscross detailing. Forever 21 has a wide variety of activewear available in stores now, which is always great.  A girl can never forget a good sports bra, this is just a generic grey crisscross style.

As for my floral shorts, they are the Tracker Short II from Lululemon. I could honestly not resist picking these up, they were the last pair!! For me, Lululemon is one of the most dangerous stores for me to enter, I almost never leave empty handed. If you're patient, you can find some good deals in their sale section.

I love how the shorts have a built in liner, keeping everything in place. The zipper pocket is a must for me whenever I'm driving to a trail!

Where do you shop for your workout gear?

Learning to Love My Hair With Dove

I was gifted with long thick beautiful red hair at an early age, however over the past couple of years my hair has changed completely. Illness and medications have meant hair loss, dullness, and dry and brittle strands. You name it, my hair has dealt it. I've gone through quite a few "moisturizing" shampoos and treatments, one of which I thought I really liked. Now I know that it just wasn't doing the job. My hair was capable of so much more.

Recently, I was lucky enough to receive a sample of Dove's new line of shampoo, conditioner and oil - The Pure Care Dry Oil * for dull, dry hair. I've been using it regularily for a few weeks and I'm ready to share my thoughts.

Let's start with packaging; the shampoo and conditioner look like your average everyday bottle and they are, but I really like them for two reasons. One, the shape. The bottle itself is ergonomically designed so that it fits into your hand really well and is easy to hold. Second, the lid. Am I the only one who has the worst time trying to open shampoo bottles? Well not with this baby. I'm not sure how but they have designed the lid so that it is incredibly easy to open, even with wet hands. In terms of the dry oil treatment, can we say gorgeous? It is actually housed in a glass bottle with a pump that seems to dispense just the right amount of product.

Now onto the product itself; all three smell awesome, a very warm nutty smell that reminds me somewhat of root beer but it is not overwhelming nor does it stick around to annoy you afterwards. The shampoo is a light translucent substance that seems to meet in the middle of an oil and a cream. It lathers really well and you don't need to use too much. It feels very clarifying on the hair but it is not at all stripping, leaving your hair feeling clean but healthy. The conditioner is also quite light but it delivers a ton of moisture. You can feel your hair soaking it up and it doesn't leave behind a greasy feeling. The dry oil is really nice also, I have always been wary of hair oils because I did not want to feel greasy, but again it is really light and it soaks right in.

Over the course of the past few weeks, I have noticed significant improvement in my hair, it is much happier, healthier and bouncier. It seems to be incredibly hydrated and it is reacting much better to all types of styling. It also feels much cleaner, I have been able to go longer without my roots becoming greasy and my dry shampoo is seeing much less action. I have been loving the dry oil as well, it is great to use as a last step in your styling routine to smooth down any frizz and add shine.

Since I started to use Dove's new line of Dry Oil* products I have fallen back in love with my hair, it is so much easier to work with and I'm not embarrassed of its condition. I cannot thank Dove enough for introducing me to this line and I really truly recommend it to anyone with similar hair concerns.

The Sunday Post

This week has gone by incredibly fast because it has been so busy. I've had quite a few doctors appointments and I was also very busy with blogging business. Expect some awesome posts soon! My boyfriend and I went out to see the new movie Neighbors and it was freaking hilarious! If you are of age, you should definitely go see it!

My new obsession when it comes to snack time, a big mug of green tea and an english muffin covered in peanut butter and raspberry jam.

The weather this week has been humid and rainy but during a brief break of sunshine I opened the front window in my living room and my cat Chloe took full advantage.

I had the opportunity to interview the amazing Whitney from Girl on the Wing, a vintage boutique in Hamilton. We spent a good hour and a half chatting and then i took a million photos. Everything in her store is so beautiful, I never wanted to leave! Stay tuned for a post!

On Saturday, I wandered over to my local Shoppers Drug Mart and discovered a bin of Essence products that had been reduced to $1 each! I was already planning to do an Essence post so I stocked up and rushed home to take photos, Chloe was a great assistant.

What did you do this week?

Style Saturday | Summer Style Aspirations

Summer is just around the corner and I am praying the weather warms up soon! It is still pretty chilly here and the rain has been non-stop so in order to bring a little sunshine into my life I have been creating a summer style board on Pinterest and I thought that I would share the top 5 spring/summer trends that I will be rocking this year.

I really love a feminine silhouette and summer is the perfect time for me to bring that out, during the colder months I am so concerned with staying warm that I abandon all thoughts of style but when summer rolls around I am dying to put on a dress. I have never been a fan of shorts, much preferring a skirt and top or a flowy dress and my style tends to lean more towards feminine with a boho touch.

The Statement Pencil Skirt: While during the day I tend to be more on the casual side if the need arises for a more professional look I will head straight for a pencil skirt. I think the pencil skirt is one of those key wardrobe pieces that can completely change your appearance, it is chic, sleek and feminine and is incredibly flattering on the female figure. This year I am obsessed with the idea of a statement patterned skirt with a plain top and a pop of glamour with a necklace.

The Maxi Skirt: I love a good flowly skirt in the summer and the maxi has to be my favourite. You can pair a million different things with a neutral maxi skirt and create a completely unique look. It is one of the easiest ways to try to trends and patterns while still looking chic and put together.

The Floral Pattern: I have been completely sucked in by all of the gorgeous florals available this season. Even the simplest of outfits can be jazzed up with a fun pop of colour or a romantic pattern of roses. My favourite way to wear this trend right now is with a dress or a simple cami.

The Midi Skirt: Can we just stop and appreciate how stunning all of those ladies look? The midi is a relatively new trend that has taken over the fashion world. It is incredibly feminine and dainty and very reminiscent of the 50's. Whether you chose a structured skirt or a loose flowy pleat, every midi skirt just screams sophistication. The just below the knee length is something that can be worn by everyone, even us shorter girls, just throw on a pair of heels and you are good to go.

The Lingerie Inspired Cami: Now this is my favourite trend of the moment, I just love how a simple silk or lace camisole looks balanced with a blazer or a flowy skirt. You can throw the cami over a lace bra and you have a chic and sexy look while still looking put together in the hot weather.

What trends have you been admiring for this upcoming summer season? Are you a dresses and skirts kind of gal or do you like to keep it easy with shorts and a tee?
