The Sunday Post

Hey Beauties!

This week has been a big flurry of shopping, organizing, and decorating for Christmas. I am a huge Christmas person and I absolutely love decorating my apartment but this year I am hosting a party so I have taken things to a whole new level. While I normally focus on just my living room, this year I have incorporated the dining room and kitchen! I will post a full Christmas house tour when everything is finished but for now here are a few sneak peaks!

How was your week?

Style Saturday | When Leather Meets Stripes

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love stripes! It's an addiction and a bit of a problem but they are just so chic and versatile. I love that stripes can be really dolled up or they can be very casual but either way they add a bit of dimension to any outfit. One of my favourite ways to wear stripes, especially in fall is to layer them underneath a cargo inspired jacket. I really love the mixture of pattern and texture and I think it takes a simple outfit to another level.

Christmas Treats | Candy Cane Hearts

Hey Beauties!

Welcome to part two of my Christmas Treats series with Stephanie from Tragic Wardrobe! If you missed our treats last week then check out these posts on how to make Peppermint Bark and Caramel Hot Chocolate

Today, I want to share one of my absolute favourite Christmas treats - Candy Cane Hearts! They are another super easy and delicious treat that also packs a punch in the adorable department. You just can't beat miniature candy cane hearts!

This recipe is really truly fool proof, it only requires a few key ingredients and only takes a few minutes to make. It's perfect for parties or even to make as a DIY gift for family and friends!

Ingredients:

- Miniature Candy Canes
- 8oz White Chocolate Chips
-Green & Red Sprinkles
- 4" or 6" Lollipop Sticks

Additional Items:

- Baking Sheet
- Parchment Paper
- Cooking Spray

Step 1 - Fill a small pot with water and bring it to a boil, place your white chocolate chips in a bowl and place that over the pot and let it warm up. Once you see the chips start to melt begin to stir them gently. The constant mixing will make sure they melt evenly and after a couple of minutes you will have fully melted chocolate.

Step 2 - Line your baking sheet with parchment paper and give it a quick spray with cooking oil - you can always use coconut oil or another substitute.

Step 3 - Take 2 mini candy canes and place them together to make a heart, then place a lollipop stick in between the candy canes at the base of the heart.

Step 4 - While holding the candy canes in place, spoon the melted chocolate into the middle.

Step 5 - While still warm, add your sprinkles or whatever other decorations you want to use.

Step 6 - Place the tray in the freezer for 2 - 24 hours depending on when you want to dig in!

Step 7 - To serve, gently pop the hearts off of the parchment paper and arrange them on a platter or in a festive mug!

And Voila!

Another super simple but delicious festive treat that will definitely add a little bit of cheer to a Christmas celebration! Now head on over to Tragic Wardobe to learn how to make Stephanie's Christmas Tree Brownies!

Antique Gold Eyes and Deep Plum Lips

Hey Beauties!

Today, I've got another fall inspired makeup look that I showed on my Instagram - if you don't follow me, come join the family! I asked if you would like to see a post and the answer seemed to be yes so here it is! As you all know, I am a full blown vampy lipstick lover and I will not turn down any opportunity to wear one - aka everyday in the autumn. This particular look was inspired by the Deep Lips/Gold Lids tutorial by Casey Holmes, and while I have no where near the talent she does I thoroughly enjoy playing with eyeshadow and seeing what transpires.

To create this look, I followed my normal everyday foundation and brow routine - see here - and then finished off my complexion with the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Glisten - a peachy pink with gold shimmer - and a heavy dose of highlight along the cheek bones and nose using The Balm's Mary Lou Manizer. I wanted to keep the base really simple and clean without much colour because the eyes and lips were both going to be such a focal point.

Moving on to the eyes, I primed with my favourite L'oreal Color Riche Eyeshadow Primer and then went in with two palettes. The majority of the shadows came from the Stila In the Light palette with only one coming from the Sleek Vintage Romance palette. I started by placing Bliss from the Stila palette into the crease and a transition shade and blended well. Then for the lid I used Bubbly all over the lid, packing it on well and focusing on the centre of the lid. I then took Court in Cannes from the Sleek palette and placed that over top, primarily in the outer V, to warm it up. The Stila shade is a very standard yellow gold while the Sleek shade is more bronze and I liked the combination it created. Then I placed Gilded Gold from Stila into the crease and blended everything thoroughly. A tiny bit more of Bubbly on the very centre of the lid and along the lower lash line, a bit of Kitten on the inner corners and that's that. To finish the eyes off, I applied my go to Revlon Bold Lacquer mascara and tightlined using Stila's Waterproof Smudegstick in Damsel - a dark brown.

Last but not least, the show stopper of this look - the lips. I used a clear lip liner from No Bleeding Lips and then went to town with Wet n' Wild's Mega Last Matte lipstick in Vamp it Up - please excuse the dry lips. This is hands down one of my favourite lipsticks for fall and winter, it is a stunning rich purple that borders on black. Definitely not everyones taste but for $3 why not try it?

Overall, I am in love with this look and I will be rocking it a million more times this season. I hope you liked it!

The Sunday Post

Hey Beauties!

Happy Sunday, I hope you have all had an amazing week. I have been a busy working girl all week long trying to get all of my holiday posts planned and executed so I haven't done anything too exciting. The most exciting thing is that it is a real winter wonderland here, it snowed quite a lot so I'm definitely feeling festive. I ended up starting to decorate my apartment and this year I have gone with the whole "frozen" theme. I can't wait to show you how it looks when everything is finished! The other super exciting moment this week was meeting up with one of my good friends for breakfast at a local cafe, I literally cannot even express how delicious my pancakes were!

What did you do this week?

Style Saturday | The Cold Weather Uniform

Now that the autumn/winter season has arrived, I have once again fallen in love with my trusty leather jacket and I am sporting it every possible chance I get. I found this gem 2 years ago at Dynamite, a store that always seems to have the most amazing jackets. They typically carry all sorts of shapes, lengths and styles with a perfect fit for everyone. When the weather gets a bit colder and I don't know what to wear, I always reach for my jacket. I can pair it with black pants, a lightweight sweater and a cozy scarf. A super simple but chic outfit that can be dressed up or down. The best bit is that when it gets even colder I can just throw a jacket over the top.

Holiday Gift Guide | Stocking Stuffers

Hey Beauties!

So I don't know about you but one of my favourite memories from past Christmases is getting to spoil the people I love just a little bit. Gift giving is just one of those things that makes me truly happy because I am a sentimental sap and I love to express that but it's definitely easier said than done. Every single person in my life is an individual, they are unique and they have their own interests and frankly that is why I love them. So when it comes to choosing what to buy, the typical gift sets of body lotion just won't cut it. I have no doubt that your loved ones are just as unique so I thought I would create a few gift guides designed around a few key friends - the Chic Fashionista, the Beauty Lover, the Skincare Addict and the Best Friend - that hopefully can help you find the perfect gift for that perfect Christmas moment. Today, I am kicking the series off with my personal favourite - because who doesn't love anything miniature - the stocking stuffers!

1. Benefit Cosmetics - The Real Steal Duo ($29)
2. Detox Pamper Pack ($12)
3. Kate Spade Set of 2 Notebooks ($12)
4. Happy Plugs - Rose Gold Earbuds ($40)
5. L'occitane Shea Travel Treats ($24)
6. Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Ornament ($26)
7. Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics ($34)
8. Bonjour Boxed Pen ($18)

Christmas Treats | Peppermint Bark

Hey Beauties!

It's officially that time of year when the pumpkins and leaves have been replaced by Christmas trees, snow and twinkle lights - my absolute favourite time of year! I truly enjoy the holidays because they mean I get to celebrate the year with friends and family that I might not get to see all the time. This time of year always has such a magical feel and a cozy warmth that tends to mean I get just a little bit too excited and can't help but plan a festive get together. Over the last few years I have become quite good at throwing a party so I have quite a few tips but the most important one is that no holiday party is complete without a few delicious Christmas treats.

With that all important tip in mind, I decided to team up with the beautiful Stephanie from Tragic Wardrobe to bring you a series of our favourite DIY Christmas treats! The first treat up to bat - and probably my favourite - is a super simple but yummy Peppermint Bark.

This recipe is one of my favourites because it really is super simple. It is also something that you can make ahead of time or at the last minute and you change up the ingredients to suit your tastes. You only need a few key things and the rest is really up to you and your creativity.

Ingredients:

12oz Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
8oz White Chocolate Chips
12 Oreos (smashed)
2 Large Candy Canes (smashed)
1/4 C Mini M&M's (smashed)

Additional Items:

1 Large Baking Sheet
Parchment Paper
Cooking Spray

Once you have got all your ingredients together the bark will literally takes just a few minutes to make.

Step 1 - Fill a small pot with water and bring it to a boil, place your semi-sweet chips in a bowl and place that over the pot and let it warm up.

Step 3 - Pour your chocolate onto the parchment and spread out to cover evenly. Then repeat step 1 and 3 with the white chocolate chips.

Step 4 - Get creative! This is when you take your toppings and distribute them over the chocolate in any way you wish. Make a design, section them out or just wing it.

Step 5 - Once you have decorated your chocolate with the various toppings, place the baking tray in the freezer for 2 - 24 hours, depending on when you want to dig in!

Step 6 - To serve, break the bark into smaller size pieces and pile them up on a festive tray!

And Voila!

A simple but delicious Christmas treat that is just as much fun to make as it is to eat! Now no party is complete without something warm and yummy to drink so head over to Tragic Wardrobe to see Stephanie's recipe for Caramel Hot Chocolate!

I hope you beauties are looking forward to the Christmas season and I hope you take this recipe for a spin! Share photos with me on Twitter or Instagram of your favourite Christmas Treats!

Spark Sessions Fashion & Beauty Conference | A Recap

Hey Beauties!

Today I wanted to do a bit of a recap of the Spark Sessions Fashion & Beauty Bloggers Conference that I attended this past weekend. I am so grateful for the chance to go and it was such an amazing experience.

Before I get into the details of the event, I wanted to take a second to say thank you to each and every beautiful girl who took the time to say hello or have a chat. It was so incredible to finally meet you and put a personality to a face or a handle. You are all truly beautiful girls with amazing style and lovely hearts so never forget that!

Spark Sessions is Canada's first fashion and beauty blogging conference and this is only it's second year but the team behind the scenes definitely know what they are doing because it was amazing. Spark Sessions was hosted at District 28 in Toronto and it was a stunning location with exposed brick walls, concrete floors and bold murals. The space was jam packed with 250+ bloggers and some incredible speakers in attendance. Every single person had amazing style and I was constantly finding inspiration. I chose to wear two outfits that really captured my individual style but also made me feel comfortable, confident and beautiful. For more details on my outfits see these posts 1 & 2.

Spark Sessions had a roster of speakers from all aspects of the beauty, fashion, PR and journalism world and each and every speaker had something invaluable to say. These speakers included Vanessa Craft (Beauty Editor of Elle), Andrew Sardone (Style Editor of Globe Style), Lena Almedia (Listen to Lena), Madelyn Chung (Styleist Canada), Ruth Goudie (PR Manager Benefit Cosmetics), Rema Gouyez (The Burgandy Book) and more.

The entire two days that I was able to listen to these speakers, I felt so incredibly grateful that I was lucky enough to listen to their wisdom. I learned an immense amount of information and took a million notes but I have never felt more passionate and inspired. After workshops on working with PR, understanding social media, media kits, ad networks and the future of blogging I feel confident in my abilities and talents as a blogger and I truly feel like I am on the right path.

In addition to the workshops, Spark Sessions offered bloggers the opportunity to meet with PR professionals in a speed dating type manner and it was an incredible opportunity. I had the chance to speak with people from The Publicist Group, OverCat PR, Benefit Cosmetics, Styleist Canada, Devon Consulting and more and I received advice that I will never forget.

Along side the amazing workshops there was also a sponsor fair where attendees could meet directly with the many companies that sponsored the conference including, CrowdSocial, Pure & Simple, Benefit Cosmetics, Verlico, Nivea, Micro-Pedi, Vitabath and Bench Clothing. Most companies had booths completely decked out to reflect their brand and were holding contests and offering free samples, it was the perfect way to explore brands and learn more about them from the people who actually work with them.

Benefit Cosmetics had the most beautiful booth with an entire corner set up for Benebabes to play with the products, chat with the brand ambassadors and even get a little makeover for an "InstaEye Lift" by some amazing Benefit Makeup Artists. I am so in love with Benefit as a company, not only do they have incredible products with adorable packaging but they embrace each and every woman with open arms and aim to make them realize their true beauty.

I could go on and on for hours because Spark Sessions truly was that amazing of an experience - aside from the flooding bathrooms - but I wanted to give you a little bit of a peak inside the conference. If you were considering attending but did not I highly recommend that you come next year. The experience, the lessons, the valuable information and the connections you make are more than worth the cost of a ticket.

Did you attend Spark Sessions?
