New In: Benefit's They're Real Push Up Liner

It time to talk about the most anticipated release of the year, Benefit's new They're Real Push Up Liner. I'm sure you've heard the hype and seen the amazing promo campaign and I bet you were counting down the days until you could get your hands on this baby. Well now that it's on the market I want to share my thoughts. I was lucky enough to win my very own liner in an instagram contest and I have been playing around with this groundbreaking liner ever since.

The Benefit Push Up Liner is an innovation in the world of eyeliners and is unlike anything else on the market as it is actually a gel formula inside of a pen. Previously, gel eyeliner was only available in small pots that required a brush for application. I have always stayed away from gel because the pots would dry out and I had to clean my brush after every use, a bit too much work for me. Now, you can get the intense pigment, matte finish and lasting power of a gel with the ease of a pen.

The Benefit team has spent that last 5 years working on the Push Up Liner and it shows in the product. It is obvious that a huge amount of thought and care was put into the tiniest details. The pen itself is sleek, light and easy to hold, the lid screws on to ensure the product never dries out and it has a twistable base that pushes the gel up to the tip. The Accuflex tip is probably the best bit of the liner, it is a flexible rubber tip with a wider base to push your lashes aside to ensure you get as close to lashline as possible, that then tapers to the perfect angle where the gel comes out. The tip guides the gel right up to the lashline where the angle helps to create a smooth line. The gel itself is a rich matte black that is incredibly creamy and smooth and does not skip or pull along the eyelid, and once it's on it is not going anywhere. The combination of the flexible tip, precise angle and creamy formula make it incredibly easy to create a beautiful bold wing that will withstand water, sweat and tears. Trust me, I tried it.

I am a bit of a liner addict and I have tried and tested more than I can count, so I am incredibly picky and I have high expectations and requirements for a liner to win me over. I want it to be easy to apply, incredibly pigmented and I want it to stay put. When it comes to the Benefit Push Up Liner, well I'm on the fence.

While, the result is stunning and my wings have never been more beautiful it is not without it's faults. I have issues mostly with the application process, the gel takes a long time to come to the tip and I have to twist the base 5-6 times for every use to get any gel to appear and you have to be patient because the gel is slow to come out. I will twist the base and wait at least 30 seconds before I see any product so it's a bit of process. Then, I find the first bit to come out is always dry and a bit clumpy, so i have to wipe off the tip and twist it again. Being a gel, the formula is bound to be dry but I find it just a bit too dry. When you apply it to the lids you literally have seconds before it dries, so you have no time to fix mistakes. It is also incredibly difficult to do a second layer, the first layer starts to pill and you will get little bits of gel in your eye.

Honestly, I think the issues I have are mostly human error - I am not very good at applying liner - and I think the liner takes quite a bit of practice to get used to. I think the difficulties are totally worth it if you are a winged liner lover because the result is truly stunning. I suggest you run out, pick the Push Up Liner and really test it out yourself. Give yourself some time to work out the kinks and you just might fall in love.

Are you going to try the new Benefit They're Real Push Up Liner?

The Sunday Post

It's been a pretty lazy week around here, I've been really tired and I've not had much motivation. So my girls (cats) and I have been cuddling up and reading lots of books. Stella decided she couldn't sleep without her toys, so she made herself a home in her tunnel.

I've been getting ready to send out a package to the lovely Charlotte from Blot and Reapply, my swap partner. I can't wait to see what she thinks of her goodies!

Of course, Chloe was a great helper when I was trying to take some blog photos. She loves to be the star and pose for the camera.

So I had a bit of a lazy week and now I've got a long weekend. How was your week?

Style Saturday | Bows & Heels

This past Saturday, I had the chance to attend the Gala Fashion Show for Hamilton Fashion Week and I took advantage of the opportunity to dress to the nines! I wasn't sure of what other people would be wearing but I always think it is better to be overdressed than underdressed so I pulled out my favourite lace dress. This dress fits me like a glove and it is incredibly comfortable, it's a stretchy nylon with a fitted bodice and a floaty skirt that flies up when you twirl - every girl's dream! I also love the scalloped edges along the neckline. I paired it with a gold and black bow belt that really just adds that extra special touch and I kept my other accessories simple as to not draw the attention away from the dress. I felt really pretty and feminine in this outfit and I couldn't have been happier with my choice.

For a closer look at my makeup for this event, check out this post.

Exploring Essence Cosmetics

A little over a month ago I stumbled across a bin of Essence items that were marked for clearance in my local Shoppers Drug Mart. I had never tried Essence before so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to test out some of their products. Well, I have thoroughly tried and tested each and every product and I want to share my findings. Hint, they were all pretty awesome!

While the packaging is not the most luxurious in the world, it is sturdy and sleek. The clear plastic lets the product itself be the focus and I think that is a smart choice on Essence's part. They are using simple, no fuss packaging to be able to offer their products at a lower price, something we can all appreciate. When it comes to the makeup itself, they get a big thumbs up from me. Starting with the face products, the Silky Touch Blush in 50 Sweetheart, is really quite pretty. It is an incredibly pigmented and smooth peach blush with noticeable shimmer, it can be blended easily and it stays on until the end of the day. The Bloom Me Up Shimmer Powder in 01 Rose it Up is lovely, a gorgeous pink toned champagne highlighter that is finely milled and blendable. Contrary to its name, it actually does not contain much shimmer and creates more of a subtle glow. The Love Letters Highlighting Powder in 01 Love Poem is sadly not quite as successful. It is really chalky and the peachy-golden tone is completely overwhelmed by the amount of intense shimmer. Another winner are the Love Letters Powder Papers. These oil blotting sheets are amazing for soaking up moisture on the skin throughout the day, one sheet will do the whole face, and to top it off they are packaged to look like an old notebook, adorable!

Moving on to the eyes, the Stay No Matter What Eye Shadow Pencil in 07 Whipped White Frosting is simply gorgeous! It is a beautiful golden champagne - no idea where the name came from - that is incredibly creamy and pigmented. It applies smoothly, without creasing, tugging or piling and lasts all day. It has become my go-to for a quick and easy one wash eye on lazy days.

Last but not least are the three Love Letter Nail Polishes and the Bloom Me Up Nail Lace Tips, both of which I loved. I was seriously impressed by these nail polishes and particularly fell in love with Rosy in Love. All three polishes were identical in formulation and application, they were incredibly creamy and smooth and were opaque in 2 coats. The polish seemed to just glide over all of the ridges in my nails and it seemed impossible to mess up. I had not used appliques before so they were a little difficult to apply but after I got the hang of it, they were easy peasy. The designs are gorgeous and they work with so many polish shades and with a topcoat they last about 4 days before peeling off cleanly and not effecting the polish underneath.

Overall, I am so happy that I decided to test out some Essence products. I was pleasantly surprised and incredibly impressed with the quality and performance of most of the products. I will definitely be adding some more Essence to my collection.

Bold Wings & Pink Lips

I don't often do "face of the day" posts but I was really happy with the makeup I wore to the Hamilton Fashion Week, Gala Fashion Show and I thought I would show you what products I used to create it. I used a few tried and true favourites and few new discoveries that I have become quite attached to.

Beginning with the base, I primed my skin with the L'oreal Magic Lumi Face Primer and then applied the Covergirl Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation using a Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. I've really fallen in love with this combination, they layer beautifully and the sponge really helps to achieve an airbrush finish. I then used the Almay Concealer & Brightener for under the eyes and the NYX HD Photogenic Concealer for redness and blemishes. I set everything with the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light and followed with the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer for some subtle contouring. I finished off the cheeks with The Balm Frat Boy Blush and the Benefit Watts Up Highlighter

Next, I filled in my eyebrows using the Anastasia Brow Wiz in Caramel and then set them using the Benefit Gimme Brow in Light/Medium. I chose to use my Stila In The Light Palette for my eyes, using the shade Bliss all over the lid, Sunset in the crease and Kitten as the highlight. Next up, came the star of the show, the new Benefit They're Real Push Up Liner. I wanted to have quite a big wing with a big impact so this was the perfect product to use. I followed that up with the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara for big glamorous lashes. To finish off the look I used my new obsession, Revlon's Super Lustrous Lipstick in Primrose

What do you think of this look?

L'oreal Les Blancs - Peach Neglige

The L'oreal Les Blancs collection was something that I was incredibly excited for. I had seen the collection popping up on various blogs and had already fallen in love with the nude tones and was completely expecting to buy out the shelves the second I saw them in store. Unfortunately, after searching every drugstore in my area I could not find a single bottle. It was not until recently that I stumbled across a lone bottle of Peach Neglige hiding behind a few other peachy-pink L'oreal polishes. Can you imagine the excitement?

Peach Neglige is a simply stunning polish, it is a white based peach that appears almost nude in certain lights. It is incredibly flattering on the hand, making your fingers look long and lean and it has just enough colour to it that it should flatter most skin tones. The formula is incredibly creamy and smooth and applies evenly. It is also a bit on the sheer side, becoming opaque in 3 coats. I did not have any issues with streaking or build up between coats and it dried rather quickly. The only issue was surrounding its ability to adhere to the nails, I found it peeled around the edges almost immediately but that can be fixed with a good topcoat.

I have really fallen in love with this polish and I have been wearing it non-stop. I wish I could have found more of the collection because there is nothing better than a nude or a pastel. Did you get your hands on anything from the Les Blancs Collection?

The Sunday Post

On Wednesday night, my friends and I attended the Hair and Makeup Expo for Hamilton Fashion Week. They had a gelato truck on hand which made me very happy!

I spent Monday and Wednesday hanging out with my two favourite munchkins, Callie and Camden. I learnt that bubbles are totally the new chalk.

On Saturday I went behind the scenes at the Gala Fashion Show for Hamilton Fashion Week. It was really amazing to see so many different beauty looks. Unfortunately, I will not be posting about the Gala Show.

All that fashion made us hungry, so the lovely Sharon from Undertheblush, her friend Sarah and I headed over to Charred for some seriously amazing Piri Piri Chicken Poutine.

How was your week?

Hamilton Fashion Week | Street Fashion

Last night I wandered to downtown Hamilton with a couple of friends to check out the Street Fashion portion of Hamilton Fashion Week. This was the second night of Street Fashion exhibitions, where local designers from all over Hamilton came out to throw impromptu guerrilla style runway shows along James Street North!

It was a beautiful night, perfect for enjoying some amazing fashion. I was blown away by some of the designs, especially by the first three shows that were all designed by young adults, two of which were still in highschool!

 The amazingly talented Rachael Warner

Out of this world designs by Nebula ArtWear

Super chic and 90's inspired daywear by Manuela

 Gorgeous gowns by Olinda

About halfway through the night we changed locations to the James North General Store to view two amazing accessory collections. I have to say this was my favourite part of the night, I am completely in love with the stunning scarves by Volver

The beautiful designer of Volver and her daughter

Of course, the stunning designs of Worn West

It was a fantastic night and I really enjoyed seeing some of the talent coming out of Hamilton. There are more Street Fashion shows today from 12 - 6pm, followed by the incredibly exciting Gala Fashion Show at Christ Church Cathedral. Doors open at 6:30, I hope to see some fellow Hamiltonians there!
