The Lipgloss Convert | Maybelline Colour ElixirsMonday, March 10, 2014
I have never been a fan of lipgloss in general finding them too sticky and messy so when the newest gloss from Maybelline was released I couldn't have been less interested. It wasn't until I saw Essiebutton's rave review that I decided to check them out. Estee is one of the bloggers whose opinion I trust explicitly, i have loved everything she has ever recommended and the Colour Elixirs were no exception.
The Maybelline Colour Elixirs are not your average lipgloss - described as a 3 in 1 hybrid with the bold colour saturation of a lipstick, the moisturizing feel of a balm and the high shine of a gloss. The formula is a dream - lightweight and surprisingly hydrating, not at all sticky but creamy and smooth on the lips. The lasting power is typical for a gloss - only 3 or 4 hours - but they are so nice to apply that it doesn't matter. The exclusive angora brush makes it a breeze to apply an even and polished layer that just smooths over lines in the lips.
I have 3 of the 20 available shades and they are all consistent in their formula and performance. Breathtaking apricot is a creamy peach, Captivating Carnation is a gorgeous rosy pink and Dashing Orchid is a stunning purple toned fuchsia that fits in perfectly with the Pantone Colour of the Year. And the packaging - don't get me started - it is unique and looks gorgeous on a vanity (where i store mine). The clear casing around the lipstick shaped tube and the chic silver cap make it stand out from the standard drugstore gloss.
I have fallen in love and as someone who hated lipgloss, I can honestly recommend them to anyone who wants a fun colour without the commitment of a lipstick.
You can buy the Maybelline Colour Elixirs at drugstores for $10.99 (CAD)
